  1. We do LoF on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and haven't found it to be too cumbersome, my kids BEG for Fred. So, it's a nice transition to the next thing. We read a chapter each on the scheduled days --- sometimes my son reads on ahead, he loves Fred.
  2. I prefer the Teacher's manual printed version but like the student pages printed, 3 hole punched, and placed in a binder. They are easier to write on that way.
  3. As I said previously I am planning on using Rightstart for my DD5 this year. However, just looked at the website and saw that I would need to choose 1st or 2nd edition? Hm. Which one and why? Thoughts from all of you happy with the program?
  4. Thanks for sharing. I plan to start my daughter (5) with Rightstart very soon.
  5. Ok...sorry if I am taking over the thread but I am wondering about these (Process Skills from Singapore) for my son. 8yo we are in Singapore PM 3B and he is doing well but because we didn't start with Singapore (only been homeschooling a year). Would it be wise to begin at the beginning in Level 1 or stay on Level 3 with these? He has a hard time with CWP. I thought that these might help. Thank you for sharing.
  6. Basketball, Tennis, Baseball, Football. I will watch is hubby is watching with me but otherwise I don't HAVE to watch just if it is on. Although I really enjoy watching sports live in the stadium, arena, etc.
  7. I tried Apologia and I couldn't get into the textbooks. We tried Elemental and it feels light but we add to it a lot (extra books on the topic) although it gets done here. Almost more so than History at this point. I like it for that reason as well. We are on Earth Science/Astronomy for the Grammar Stage and I ordered Chemistry for Late Grammar stage for next year (9yo). Anyways, I like that they use real books, encyclopedias, and narrations, with easy to implement experiments. It allows for a lot of rabbit trails as well. :)
  8. We like Tin-Tin a lot here. It's been great. I am open to comic books --- approved by us but I HATE them. I just don't get into them. My son on the other hand can't put a new Tin-Tin comic book down and will re-read them lots.
  9. You could always incorporate the Bravewriter Lifestyle and WWE. I like the creativity and "natural-ness" of the Bravewriter Lifestyle but the hand holding of WWE.
  10. I teach, usually in my chair beside him with a small dry erase board. We talk about it and then he goes over the exercise. This is true of grammar and math. Writing we usually do together --- WWE and then for narrations I go over any difficult spelling with him. We use WRTR so that can be pretty teacher intensive as well. Latin is one that once we go over the lesson portion he can complete the written assignment on his own, USUALLY. I actually kind of enjoy it -- maybe it's the teacher hidden in me breaking out. Also, my children are still some what young at 8, 5, and 3.
  11. I make my son correct right away. First, I like that it is a learning lessons when he just hasn't taken his time -- you see it takes longer when we don't apply ourselves the first time. Secondly, I like that it helps me to find out where he is struggling and then reapply the lesson (time permitting) to allow for the LIGHT BULB moment. That's why I correct right away.
  12. :bigear: Great ideas, great thread, thanks for sharing.
  13. I thought it would be neat to have a name, especially, as they get older but we have never really found anything either yet.
  14. I completely understand. :D Although, I think I have finally figured out this year. My DH and I have had "the talk". HA. At one point I actually planned through High School for my THREE year old....seriously? It was just a rough draft and very generic but....crazy. BACK AWAY.
  15. Going to check this out --- I already saw a few that I had purchased for this year and we LOVED them. I think it might be worth the $50. :auto:
  16. I am so glad to hear this. I am going to begin with my 5 yo in the Fall (perhaps sooner -- as she loves doing oral review with her brother already). I get nervous starting with a fresh slate, maybe it's easier though. I started with my son (8) in January and have been AMAZED at the difference in his spelling and his confidence. Ellie, is FABULOUS and guiding and encouraging and answering questions, very thankful for her help.
  17. Yes!!! They are awesome there! I have experienced wonderful service.
  18. I used Horizons transitioned to Singapore and LoF. It seems to be working better for my son's personality. I like teaching and learning alongside him as well. For my DD5, I plan to use RS and perhaps Singapore and then move to Singapore with LoF as well, like I say, that's the *plan*, it can change.
  19. Nordstrom's. I am convinced that the Victoria's Secret salesperson was just trying to sell me bras and not actually sizing me properly.
  20. Snack, chores (for myself and them), a walk, bike ride, etc., I sometimes let my son choose his next assignment. We were having an off day today and once he was able to have a say in where we were going next, with the next assignment. He perked right up. :)
  21. Congratulations and thank you for sharing! :)
  22. Wow, thank you for sharing. This looks great. I have bookmarked it and plan to start incorporating it into our writing, Bible, reading times. Also, do you do a character trait a week or a month? There seems to be a wealth of information for each trait that you really could focus on different aspects of the trait for the entire month. Thanks again for this suggestion.
  23. I chose Little Britches because it is something that my nine year old DS and I will soon be embarking on. :)
  24. So, I have been waffling between FIAR and Sonlight Core A for my soon to be Kindergartener. I think the books in FIAR are better suited for her right now. I think we will just keep on trucking in our books from Core P4/5. I digress. I found a great deal on the FIAR Vol.1-3 but they are the older editions. Is there a lot of difference between the older editions and the newer ones? Thanks.
