  1. I was really hoping the price would be a little cheaper than $329. I think I like it but not for that price. I was hoping to get one for my 9.5 and 8 yr old sons. Now I'm thinking about buying the I-Pad3 and giving them my first generation I-PAD instead. Decisions decisions.....
  2. :iagree: My 9.5 yr old son is 5'3 and is currently wearing a 9.5-10 men shoe! My hubby is pretty tall 6'11 and wear a 15-16 shoe.
  3. We have always done school 4 days a week. Over the last year or so we added a co-op and other outside activites like Lego League, piano, homeschool P.E etc. We still do math everyday except Sun now. I just started that this school year and I plan to continue. If you decide on a 3 day work schedule you could still do math at least 4 days out of the week. Maybe play math games on your days off. I think it can work.
  4. Sounds like you are doing a great job! I would like to see the YouTube video. Do you happen to have the link?
  5. Big :grouphug: to you and your son. I would take a short break from anything that resembles school! Go on fun field-trips, play educational board games, go to the library and pick out good quality books for you to read to him, stick some narration in there, get a few audiobooks, educational DVD's etc. Than I would ease back into school work. If you decide to do Barton, you could start with 15 min a day than take a break. Does he like science? If so you could do science experiments, nature walks, games, etc. Does T4L have a trial period? If so it won't hurt to try it. If he likes it, you can consider that as fun school and use it as a supplement. It will not replace the systematic instructions he's going to need for the 3r's, but hopefully it will help erase the negative experience he's had at school.
  6. I love Paula's BHA gel. I haven't found another product that really works for my skin. I would email the company. Maybe something has changed or it could be a bad bottle.
  7. For the last 3 days my 9.5 yr old has complained of stomach cramping. The first day he got up for school and said his stomach was cramping really bad. He asked if he could stay in bed. I've been giving him an extra dose of probiotics. No fever or vomiting just stomach cramps. Strange, I thought he was just trying to get out of school work! LOL
  8. :grouphug: So do I. My boys are 16 months apart!
  9. I have really enjoyed the diversity of answers here. This question was asked of me this weekend. I believe the person was referring to adulthood. It seems as though some people view homeschoolers as being too laid back and not having a real since of life outside the home. If the truth be told it's so many opportunities outside the home now for homeschoolers you definitely have to make sure you are home enough to get work/chores done.
  10. Looking for input on possibly changing our spelling curriculum for my 9.5 yr old dyslexic son. We started AAS 1 over the summer. We're only a few lessons away from being complete but I'm not quite sure it's the right fit. I do feel he gained a lot from AAS 1. Especially the segmenting, syllabication, and the dictation. He's even able to old sentences and phrases more in his memory without me repeating more than two times. His short term memory is not that great but improving. We were reviewing the cards today and he made a comment that the review cards and rules drive him crazy. They make him feel like he's stuck in a box and can't get out. I really don't know what to make of his comment. But I would like to check out other spelling curriculums just in case I need to make a change. After searching the forum I came up with the following: BTW I would like to keep a curriculum that incorporates dictation. Spelling Plus/Dictaton book Apples and Pears(does this have dictation) Sequential Spelling Or just forge ahead with AAS 2 Advice would be helpful. Thanks

So far we plan to get: Microscope Slides Dissection kit Legos, Legos, and more Legos Johnathan Park audio book Snap circuit green Magic school bus new DVD series Nook Tablet or some sort of tablet (possibly) Oldest want a bow and arrow(not sure) Board games
  12. My 9.5 yr old dyslexic son has played the piano for 3yrs. We found out he was dyslexic a year ago at the age of 8.5. His OT was very happy when she found out he was taking piano lessons. She said it work both sides of the brain. She also mentioned that using the metronome was good for sequencing and auditory strengthening.
  13. My 8 yr old and I are under the weather today! I have chills and I'm just not feeling well. My youngest has lots of coughing and just doesn't feel well. We managed to get math done and type his letter for his piano scholarship. After that we had a few cups of tea and watched The Swiss Family Robinson and a documentary on Netflix. Hoping we feel better for our co-op field trip tomorrow!
  14. Currently my 9.5 yr old is doing MUS. We stopped last year because it was really causing him stress and he said it bored him to tears. We just started school last week and I started him back in Beta. Mind you he does have mild dyslexia-dysgraphia and doesn't like to see lots of problems on a page. He said it was boring but was able to do the work today and got every problem correct. I had my whiteboard out and he asked if he could do something on it. Well low and behind he began to make shapes, graphs, circles, etc and started talking about radius and how to get the radius. He began to make bar graphs and showing how he thought his savings account was going to grow each year etc. Are there any math curriculums that would present different math problems like this? Maybe I could still keep MUS and just add to it? Math is not my strong area. I would definitely need a program that would help me teach him. Any suggestions?

  16. Looking for fun geometry books or websites for a kid who is mostly right-brained.
  17. Thank you for the hugs! Just to clarify a little when he was sent him to his room he was actually on time out for 8 min. I didn't make that clear. I do like the idea of doing his brother's chore! We already have the no TV or electronics rule. Parenting is tough work and no two kids are alike! I'm sure I can work on being more consistent. We had good day today and looking forward to the good days ahead!
  18. Thanks you much for mentioning overexcitability. I had never heard of this before. Did some google searching and found this article. It is definitely a eye opener! http://www.sengifted.org/archives/articles/overexcitability-and-the-gifted
  19. Well I see plenty of people read my message! I can't be the only one going through something like this. Anyhow we didn't get much school done but we are having a fairly good evening together as a family!
