  1. We were at the library Friday and my 7.5 yr old and 6.5 yr old found an entire shelf of Graphic Classics books. We checked out The Odyssey Homer. What do you think of these books? Are they good for young readers and for us to read together? I found a link to the book we have. http://www.amazon.com/Odyssey-Graphic-Classics-Fiona-Macdonald/dp/0764142763/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1289708332&sr=8-10

  7. Some very good friends of ours has two kids in the Kumon learning center for math and reading. There kids are in ps and they use it as a supplement. I have been thinking about the program for a year and I called today to get an appointment set up for an assesment for my 7yr old and 6yr old boys. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with Kumon and if you can give me an honest opinion of the program. Thanks, Yolanda

  11. Not only is your son very handsome but he is intelligent and confident! He did a great job. My 7 yr old and 6 yr old boys are working on WWE 1. I hope they will continue to do a good job as well. I see he is a lefty. So is my youngest. Enjoy
  12. Also make sure you continue reading good quality literature to him. Hope this helps some. I'm new at this myself!
  13. I have 7yr old that I'm working with as well. From all the advice I got and from attending the Susan Wise workshop I would suggest you drop the writing portion especially since you already have a curriculum for Language Arts. I was also told to continue with the easy readers to help build confidence along with the readers they may be a little more challenging. Even if he only reads 1-2 pages a day. Make sure the lessons aren't to long maybe 15-20 min and work at it everyday. I'm sure you are doing a great job!

  15. My 7yr old and 6 yr old are playing the game sorry. All I hear is mom he is cheating! No mom he is cheating! I'm cleaning out my in box and renewing our library books online.
  16. I think you have to set up a new account because they changed their website. Atleast that's what I had to do. If I were you I would just call and place your order. I tried to order a few days ago and some how my order was lost in the cyber world! But once I called I had no problems!!
  17. Thanks ladies. I'm trying to really take it slow as every child is different. My 6 yr old reads very well. I also make sure I'm reading good classic books and living books to them everyday. I did buy sequential spelling but haven't started it yet. Do you think this is a good program to start with?
  18. My 7yr old 2nd grade science loving son is not very confident in reading and get's frustrated easy. I'm not sure what to do with him???? We are using HOP w/ ETC and it's a slow process. He likes to read easy books like Biscuit/ Bob books etc. If I give him a book like frog and Toad to try and move him along he becomes easily overwhelmed. Should I add a spelling curriculum or should I just stick with the phonics until he becomes fluent? Thanks for your help
  19. Here is my good news. I got offered a part time job in the evenings cleaning to buildings right down the street from my house and the couple attend my church. they are paying me very good. I only work 3.5 hrs a day for 4days. Now I can work on paying off my student loan faster!!! Yeah
  20. I think I'm going to order it ifor $9.99 and $6.49 for shipping. I just hope is in good condition like the seller says. The Leapfrog Globe look awesome but I don't want to pay $250.00 bucks for it!
  21. Came across this globe for my 7 and 6 yr old sons. If you own one how do you like it? http://www.amazon.com/Drumwell-9878-GeoSafari-World-Talking/dp/B002RA9Z4S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1280346601&sr=8-3-catcorr
  22. Thanks for all the replies. I think we will visit the bike shop up the street from my house first and go from there. I did want something that would hold up over the years but I didn't think it would cost me $500 plus for two bikes! Yikes. I'll let you know how things go.
  23. If so what would you suggest for a 7yr old and a 6yr old boys? They ride their bikes just about everyday and they are interested in also doing trix. I was looking at the Mongoose bikes but wasn't sure. We are hoping to get something that will last a while.
