  1. :crying:I'm looking to get advice from someone who has taken there young child to be evaluated for his or her behavior. I am very concerned and frustrated with my 5 yr old son behavior over the last week or so. He has always been a very bright child. He learns fast, reads at a third grade level, and likes to have fun but he is also very strong willed! It seems like things are going down hill behavior wise and I don't know what to do for him. We very seldom have problems with this child in public, at social events, field trips etc. It's his behavior when at home that conserns us. Today was really over the top. I took both of our sons ages 5 and 6 to the movies at the library and on our way home he became upset in the car about not being allowed to climb in the trunck to get his helmet. He began kicking the sit and screaming and yelling. When we got home I told him to go up in his room until dinner was ready because of his dangerous behavior in the car. He became upset again and decided to kick our kitchen wall and kicking at me. I picked him up and took him in the bedroom. While in the bedroom he began to throw the pillows, sheets, and blanket on the floor. He was allowed to come down stairs after he got his self together and while down stairs he became upset again because he was not allowed to get marshmallows and choc milk beacuse he didn't eat his food. He than screamed at me and said he should kick me in the stomach. I am so torn as to whether he should be evaluated or not? I am very concerned by his beahvior although he is a great child he seems to have anger issues.(Atleast that's what I think I could be wrong)! I can say that when we are consistent with behavior charts his behavior isn't as bad! Thanks for listening, Looking for some kind of feedback that may help us!! :crying:

  8. My husband is a great man he really is and I love him dearly. But everyday he gets home from work he takes his clothes off and hang them on the bedroom doors. So right now he has clothes hanging on 4 different doors! Why do people insist on talking on their cell phones in the movies!:confused1: Please do not send me any forwards via text messaging!
  9. Just wanted to know how the dictation was working for everyone else. I'll continue with my plan to have him write a sentence a day. I think it will give him exposure if anything. We will continue to move to book 3 after the holidays. Thanks
  10. I totally agree with going at his pace, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. It does seem like the lessons can be long at times though. Thanks for all the feedback and for the link, I can't recall ever reading that before. It gives me peace to know that he's not behind. I'm in a state that requires testing and this will be our first year we test.
  11. Maybe I should have started him in K with 1A? He only get frustrated when we go over 30-35 min. He doesn't like a lot of worksheets but he does complete the TB/WB pages. And when I finish a lesson I also give him the test. He says he like it, I'll have to see how it continues to go. So maybe I should go ahead and start my 5 yr old K son with 1A as well?
  12. My first grade son will be 7 the end of Feb, he just completed the explode the code book 2. We took the dictation post test in the back of the book and he only had enough patience to write out 1 sentence this morning without becoming to stressed. We are using this as a supplement with Hooked on Phonics. I had to read the sentence slow for him to write it out and read it a few times. He was able to spell everything correctly but it was a slow process. I've decided to complete 1 sentence each day with him until all 5 sentence are completed before moving on to book 3. When it comes to dictation how efficient should a first grader be?
  13. I'm wondering if people usually complete singapore 1A/1B in a school year. I started working with my soon to be 7 yr old in 1A and we complete 1 lesson a day 4 days a week but it is going slow. I have the HIG and I usually do a few of the games also. He is starting to really understand the method but it does seems like it takes a long time to complete a unit. After looking at the books it looks like it may take the entire year to complete 1A. Is the usual pace? Thanks for the feedback
  14. My boys ages 6.5 and 5 love SOTW Cd's. We listen to them in the car, during lunch, and right before bed. My son asked me a few nights ago if there were anymore cd's after the first level? GO Figure!
  15. I am behind according to my planning. I do have some extra days built into our school year and we do school year around so I have just made up my mind this morning that I'm not going to let it worry me anymore. My uncle died on Thur we came down with a nasty cold on Friday and his funeral service was yesterday. That means we have missed a total of 4 days of school. Thank God we are well now and my husband is off today so it will be a light day for us!
  16. I vote for number 1. I think it's a nice dress and no you are not to young to wear it. It's also different. Not the same old red and gold glitter outfit we see every year!
  17. My mom is 54 and helathy but she was told by her Dr this week that it seems like she is shrinking. She has another follow up appointment in a few months. He didn't suggest anything for her to take but I'm wondering what kind of herbal supplement I can research for her. I'm thinking she may need clacium but not sure. Right now she is taking a multi-vitamin, D3, and B12. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  18. Looking for best place to purchase as a Christmas present for my sons.
  19. A few days ago my throat started feeling irritated so I gargled in warm salt and water and drank echinacea tea. The following day my husband said his throat felt irritated but not completly sore. He drank herbal tea as well. I also have been taken fresh garlic for the past 2 days. Now my 5yd old, and my husband and I are coughing on and off through the day and night. It seems to get a little worse at night but it's not bad that it prevents us from sleeping. It's more like we need to clear out chest or throats. Any ideas of what's going on??
  20. Whole grain pasta w/shrimp and pesto sauce, salad, garlic bread and fruit for dessert.
  21. I'm no pro either but I've been told that Vitamin D3 is the best form to get. I have decided to get D3. Here is a article to read: http://www.ehow.com/about_5036286_vitamin-d.html
  22. Just getting are computer back up tonight! Thanks for the book reccomendations and the articles. I'll read the articles in a few. gingersmom:I really like the idea of allowing him to brush he teeth alone. Will try this in the morning. Wendy B: I am so with you on when I have found that when my strongwilled children are driving me crazy that it means that I've gotten lazy in my parenting and need to get back on track. I think I need to get back on track! hornblower :And if it's a case of a younger one just being an attention seeker, then I think something like the Hold on to Your Kids approach (book by Dr. Gordon Neufeld) is appropriate. He needs his love tanks filled. I think he could use more love in his tank! Thank you ladies I have many articles and a few books to keep me busy this weekend! I report back to let you know how things are going.
