I would like to buy a picnic basket and filling it with some items they can use for a romantic picnic. Here is what I have so far: Bottle of cider Candles The power of a prayer wife book for her I need more ideas my brain is foggy today!!
  2. I started my 1st grader in the middle of the year with Singapore 1A and we are going to continue with it this summer but I have decided to go with MUS and use singapore along withit as a supplement. I will have 2 boys going into MUS one is 7 and the other is 6. I think I would like to start both in Alpha. What do I need to purchase for each child? I didn't see the completer block set on the website but someone in my area is selling one for $25.00. Can I use the completer set instead of the starter set. Thanks for your help.

  6. I just got my WWE 1 workbook. Although we are almost done for the year I would like to start it with my 1st grader and K sons. Is it ok to start WWE 1 with a first grader whose going into 2nd grade or should I order him the WWE 2 workbook? My plans were to use WWE 1 with both boys using their own copy work note book. I agree with what others have said and I think the lines are just to big for them. Thanks for the feedback,
  7. Ok forgot to subscribe. Hope I got it right this time! LOL
  8. Taking it all in! Subscribing right now!!!!
  9. Thanks for the feedback. If I'm going to spend money I'd ratherget one that will last us over the years.
  10. If so I do you like it?? http://www.toysandgamesonline.com/Educational-Insights-5301-EDI1310.html
  11. I'm using HOP as our main phonics curriculum and ETC as a supplement. We are on the second part of HOP 2 and my 5.5 yr old son can read all the books without even going over the lessons or sounds. I picked this up when we were doing HOP 1. He is a fluent reader. So far I had him read the Dr.Seuss books, the Henry and Mudge books, and a few other easy chapter library books. Should I just continue and complete HOP with him or should I just move him along with a spelling curriculum? His handwriting is know where near his reading ability and I'm fine with that. Is there a booklist that I can go by to continue building his fluency?
  12. I have an offer to clean two office buildings 5days a week that will take about 1.5-2hrs a day to get both done so that's about 40 hrs a month. I've never done this type of work before but I'm thinking about taking it for extra money and to pay down my student loan. Do you know what the going rate is? I'll be required to dust once week, empty garbage, vacuum and clean the rest rooms?
  13. Lisa-That's too funny! Starr- If you are in VA on Feb 6th please email and I'll give you directions;) I love the idea of having 40 friends and family members to send him a card. I think I''ll do that since most of his family is out of state. I thinkI'm just going to go with plan B. He will be surprised and we should have a great time!
  14. My husband is a wonderful man and really deserve something very special for his 40th b-day. If it was left up to him he would be very happy with the two of us hanging out with no one else involved that's just his personality. This is what I'm thinking:confused: Plan A- Take him to dinner and enjoy a night of jazz together or Plan B- Invite a few other married couples we know to come along? If I go with plan B I have no idea if it's tacky or not to have them pay for their own food? How would I go about wording the emails? I would like it to be clear that I'm not paying for everyones meal???? His birthday is on Valentines day but I'm taking him out the week before because things are just to crazy on Valentines day. The kids and I usaually decorate the house every year and have a nice cake for valentines day but since it's his 40th I wanted to do something a little extra.
  15. We are using HOP with a K and 1st grader. They enjoy the lessons and the stories and they both are reading well. We use ETC 1 and 2 along with HOP 1 and they work well together. My K son is reading very well and fluently but his handwriting is not so advance. I like HOP because he can continue to enjoy reading and I can do something different for HW. My first grade son handwriting is very nice but he still isn't as confident and I use ETC with extra reading to build his confidence. They both love getting stickers on their charts. On a side note I have a friend that use HOP with OPGTR and she thinks they work well together.
  16. I'm a little upset about this situation: My husband and I went on a great date tonight thanks to our YMCA parents night out program. I was given good reviews about the program from another parent and we decided to give it a try. The program is offered free to members twice a month but families can only utlize it once a month in order to give other families an opportunity. After returning from our date we later found out from our son that he was spit on more than one time in the face and hair and hit by the same little boy. We didn't find this out until we were on our way home. My husband made the decision to turn around to find out what happened. I went in and spoke the worker and asked if she knew that our son was spit on and hit and she told me that she forgot to mention it to us!!(SAY WHAT) She said that she did remove the boy and placed him beside another staff. I also spoke with the chair person to let her know what happend and she was a little taken back because she said neither one of the staff let her know about the incident. She did assure me that she would speak with them about it. Overall our boys said they had a great time and they would like to go back again. I haven't decided if we will try it again next month or if we will just take them to grandmas!
  17. Thanks for the replies it seems like everytime I think of testing I just get nervous! I think I'm going to go with the CAT-E for now since this is our first year testing and probably do a different test next year.
  18. Trying to find out what test would be best for a 1st grade boy. I know alot of people use the CAT. Are there anymore options? This would be our first year testing and I do have a college degree if that matters. Thanks,
  19. We had dinner with the kids which consist of crab legs, salad, and corn. The boys put together their gingerbread house and we topped it off with cider. Now both boys are out for the night and hubby and I will eat ice cream together and watch the ball drop! Not to mention enjoying our own fireworks if you know what I mean!!! Happy New Year!
  20. Heather thank you so much for the detailed example of your situation. We have a lot of similarities. I'm going to save your response and refer to it often. I love the idea of letting my son take responsibility for his actions and also knowing there are good and not so good consequences but it's up to him to make that choice by giving him options! My husband and I have to work on being more consitent and I have to pray and work on being calm. I also like what you said about pointing out the good. I do believe the good is a very powerful reinforcement! nova147-Thank you for this info. I will do some searching on the Hoagies website to see what I come up with. If things continue (I pray they won't) than I speak to his pedatrician about our circumstances! Gifted kids don't just learn faster - they think differently than others. And sometimes those differences come through in their behavior. There are some great articles on the Hoagies website about strong-willed gifted children. People seem to like the term "sensitivities" to describe these behavior patterns in gifted kids, if you're doing internet searches for ideas. :grouphug: Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
  21. Not sure where it's coming from but I do like the idea of keeping a food diary. I shop at Trader Joes and we don't drink milk so that's not it but we have had our share of junk food the last week or so. Our kids haven't been on their normal routine because of Christmas. He could just be very tired today because he's been sleep beside dad for the last hour and a half! He has always been the strong willed child unlike is brother who is very obedient and like to please. He will test us to the limit but he has never sad really mean things to me until today. I will work really hard to stay calm when things aren't going well. I have a tendancy to yell or raise my voice out of frustration and I know that doesn't work at all! I feel a little better thanks alot!
