  1. Right now we start our day at 10:00 am because when we wake up in the morning we usually read together in the bed for about an hour. it takes us about 1hr and 30 min for phonics, math and handwriting.Maybe I'm reading into the WTM book a little to deep. Right now I do cover science and History using Library books during read aloud time . But I was thinking about using the WTM suggestions for history and science(SOTW/Activity book and KF Science Book)? This is what my schedule looks like now maybe I should just leave it. M-T-W-TR read alouds in bed in the am(science/history/book list from SL/SM/1000 GB Bible Handwriting/copy work Math Lunch readalouds again(they are use to this and love it) nap/quiet time/ Fridays-piano lessons in the am/library trip/and play
  2. I've been reading the new Well Trained Mind all night and I need help with putting a schedule together. My son turned 6 the end of Jan and I have a son who will be 5 in July. I plan to school year round 4 days a week, 3weeks on, 1 week off. I just can't seem to fit the extras in so give I really need some feed back! Daily-M-T-W-TR-Bible,Phonics, Math, Handwriting/Copywork History-maybe 2xw Science-1xw Art-1xw Music-I think at this point we will just listen to classical music during breakfast and lunch Read Alouds-Daily 1hr Where do I fit in History, and Science? Is it going to be evenings? I'm used to being done with school before lunch at 1:00 but with me adding History and Science it doesn't seem possible. Maybe by brain is foggy from reading the book last night. I like the idea but now I need a little help implementing if this makes sense! Thanks,
  3. WOOHOO WOOHOO WOOHOO Glad for you, I live in Suffolk and I drive to NN every 2 weeks to shop at Trader Joe's. I love the pizza sauce, pizza dough, fresh salsa, etc, etc,. I can just go on and on.:lol:
  4. We typically take mult-vitamins from Natures Sunshine, and my kids take the antioxidants and vitamins for kids. We also try to eat a helthy diet. What do you take or plan to take because of the flu to help boost your immune system.
  5. I got the same letter on Friday! I have no idea how this company or person got my address!
  6. What kinds of actiivities do you allow your k-1st grade kids to participate in.
  7. Well here is our situation: Our boys are young ages 6(turned 6 in Jan) and 4.5(be 5 in July). I went with the option this year to opt my oldest son who was 5 at the time out of K(which means no school officially). I did a trial schedule 4 days a week year around calendar with breaks, holidays, etc. We didn't take all of our breaks and after looking at the calendar, I am already over my would be 180 days. We have accomplished beyond my K goals and have already started some of our 1st grade material and I'm thinking about calling school done for now at the end of the month.i plan to pick back up in June or July for our 2009-10 year.I can use a break. My K son is reading on a 1st grade level and my pre-k son is reading on a 1st grade level. I do plan to still work with them maybe 3 days a week on phonics and math, and explore museums, zoos, or whatever strike our fanny! How does this sound? Can I graduate my son out of K now!!!!!
  8. Just got my catalogue today and wanted to know if anyone used any of their material for early elementary(K-2nd)? If so what do you think about it?
  9. I've decided to go with Singapore for my 6yr old son. I'm going to go with 1A/1B what do I need to purchase? Thanks,
  10. Hi Megan, I received some of my curriculum from them last year and was very pleased overall. It took about 2 weeks for me to get my matherial. If you go to the website you will see an address and the only thing you have to do is send them a letter and ask them for what you are in need of. They will try to provide you with what you ask but sometimes they may not have exactly what you need, but they will send something else for your kids age or grade level. Hope this helps gotta run!
  11. Ok, I think I was a little confused myself, it's not a non-denomination church but it is an Assemblies of God church. When I made the comment about Romans 10:9 I was just addressing the person that said a particular church they fellowshiped at put a strong empasis on speaking in tongues and made them feel less than a christian. I have no problems with what they believe about the baptism of the holy spirit. This has definetly been a great conversation and I appreciate everyones input. We will just have to see where God leads us. It is such a big step for my family and I.
  12. Thanks for the replies on this. It's unfortunate that any church would make someone feel as though they were less than a christian because they didn't speek in tongues. God's word tells us in Romans 10:9 that if we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our hearts that God has raised him from the dead thou shall be saved. We have visited this church before and their is no pressure for the children to go into childrens church but they do encourage it. As matter of fact their were several children in the service with their parents but my children were asking if they were going to go in the back with some of the other kids. Thanks for the website I did get a chance to take a look at it and overall our views does line up with their views. We will just continue to visit without making a hasty decision to join but we do enjoy the service and what they offer.
  13. My family and I visited a non-denominational church on Sunday and we really enjoyed the service, they seem to have a lot for youth and families. They have something called children's church where the kids go in their age appropiate classes while the adults are in service. I would have to get use to this because I'm use to the kids being with us during service. Does anyone know much about The Assemblies of God church and also a program called Royal Rangers for boys?
  14. Thanks ladies I'll take these things into consideration along with much prayer!
  15. We may be looking for a new church home because of some major changes in our leadership, our Pastor is 86(awesome man of God) and has taken sick about 2yrs ago and the new leadership person is more like a dictator than a leader(not to sound judgemental but the truth). We have tried to hold on for the last 2yrs but we think the time is coming, and deep in my heart I knew it was coming. Last night my husband mention it to me, he stated "I think it's time for us to find a new church home". What do you guys look for in a church. We are not church hoppers by no means, we have been at our church for 11 yrs(me), 8 yrs(hb) and it's going to be a change for us. I think I'm just a little nervous because we have so many memories(I was baptised there, got married there, kids were dedicated there) but I understand the need for the change. And to be honest I think I'm ready.
  16. You know I'm concerned about this to. I just checked the laws just to verify and this is exactly what it says. I opted my K son out of school this year but I will have a K and 1st grader next year so I need this clarified as well. I like having a year round schedule with 4 days a week but reading this makes me a little weary. How are we suppose to know how many hours of instruction is given for regular school??????? I'm hoping to get some answers as well!!! Thanks for posting this info!!
  17. Thanks ladies it seems as though most kids really like them. I think I'll old off until he's close to 8 to get a set, unless dad really wants him to get it.
  18. My 6 yr old looks at his timberdoodle catalogue everyday and is hoping we will buy him a set soon. Thanks,
  19. Ok my head is spinning right now. I'm going to check out Paula Archive and look into Biblioplan, my son just turned 6 so I don't want to overwhem him put I do want him to enjoy History with a biblical aspect. Thanks alot ladies,
  20. Since I saw the thread on it being too christian, I wanted to find out what families are doing to make sure it's biblical enough? I'll be starting it in June with my 1st grade son. Thanks
