I'd suggest picking and choosing the books. There are a LOT of books in 3+4. That's just it, I do not want to pick and choose. I know, I know lazy mommy. The reason is that we will be so busy 3 days out of the week, both co-ops are from 9-till 3 in the afternoon. Music will be from 10-2:00. Not including the extra curriculuar activities we will be doing a couple evenings a week. I know that there are super organized moms who can get it all done and have time left over at the end of the week. I am not one of the moms :blushing: I want something pick up and go. Maybe SL was a bad choice for me to begin with? Tho I am drawn into their book lists, I bought a couple at the used book fair form core 3+$/D+E and they are top notch imo. Maybe I should pick and choose, geez I am spinning in the dirt here. editing because I fogot to quote dmmetler. :)

I knew that logically it would be a good fit. The reality of getting it done is really what I should have asked about. :) After reading your comment I realize that that would be a lot of reading to do the other three days, (did I mention that we will technically be out of the house 3 days, the third for music classes and that I will have the kids do their school work while waiting for each child to do their lesson, over 3 hours of waiting time! oiy! Can you (or anyone) suggest an AM history course that could be done in 3 days please? My brain is fried from all the research I've done, as soon as I think I have it figured out....... ugh, I am thankful for this board...

A class in my mind is much different than a CD that you buy to use in your home. If I could afford to pay that kind of money for a class then fifty bucks wouldn't be that big a deal. Fifty dollars to me is a lot of money. I wish it wasn't but it is. In most cases I would not buy it if I could not get back some money. I use money from the past years curriculum to pay for some of next years.

Moving from Classical to Charlotte Mason??
classics4us replied to Entropymama's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I hear you about the time commitment using the Classical model. I have found that we do better with lessons that are short, sweet and to the point. If Latin (or any other subject) takes to long you can either shorten the lessons by only doing half the work per day or change curriculum that suits your needs better. Charlotte Mason is not a curriculum it's a way of life. You may be surprised at how long it can take to do the lessons laid out in AO. Good luck! -
Refrigerator in garage???
classics4us replied to soonermomma's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I haven't read all threads, but we live in south east TN and have a freezer and fridge in our garage. If you lived in the deep south tho you may run into problems. -
You do not have to do MFW's science. We do a co-op that uses Apologia science books threfore we just skip the science portion of the lesson plans. MFW does utilize some Apologia science books but you can mix and match whatever fits your families needs. Hth Mandie

I would definantely check all three credit reports, Experian, Equifax and Trans Union. You (everyone) are enltitled to one free credit report a year, and if you apply for credit and are denied. You can use www.freecreditreport.com they have a free trial period that you can cancel after 30 days. -
Let the slicing and filing begin!
classics4us replied to krisandpaula's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
This was our first year using the filing system. We loved it. Last summer my husband and I spent one week working about an hour or two each night on the files. It was totally worth it to me because I get burnt out every school year trying to keep up with scheduling. I found that if it was filed it would more than likely get done. I did a 36 week system divided into one week folders. Each child has their own crate and each week was labeled and filled with their worksheets, notebooking pages, maps etc. It was really nice having everything ready for the entire school year. The kids enjoyed seeing the files disappear every week, giving them a sense of accomplishment. :D -
There may be diehards that say NO WAY! I skipped ECC and we're doing just fine. I do own "Windows on the World" and refer to it several times during the year. I like to intergrate geography during our history lesson. Studying it for a whole year would burn us out. It's your choice, and whatever you decide is right. :D Btw, CTG is very user friendly and can be used easily as a multileveled curriculum even for a novice. MFW is laid out so well that you should have no problems. Everything is laid out for you. Use the parts you love and skip the parts you don't like so much. I had a 5th grader, 2nd grader and 1st doing it this past year. They all loved it and had no problem absorbing the info. We didn't do the advanced assignments as I didn't find them necessary. There arent that many advanced assignments anyway. HTH

Please Pray! A child was ....

Oh my.... praying -
We have used R&S since 3rd grade. Dd is in 5th grade, she is finishing up R&S 5. We both are tired of it. My boys are doing FLL 1 and 2, dd has done parts of 3 to brush up on her diagramming. She really liked it and asked if she could do it next year? I told her no, that she would be in 6th grade doing 4th grade work. If we were to do Shurley English would it be best to start in 6th or skip it and go straight to 7th grade? She likes workbooks but not much repitition. I've heard that Shurley is heavy on repitition. This could be a deal breaker. If we choose to use Shurley, would I be wasting our time using it if we don't do the vocabulary and writing section of the lessons? The reason I would not use them is that next year dd will do IEW B at our co-op, and our core curriculum has built in vocabulary. I will be adding in diagramming, not sure which program yet. Any suggestions on a diagramming program would be great also. One more thing, does Shurley have poem memorization? If not I will be adding that in also. Probably using ILL. Or should I scrap Shurley and try something else? Ugg, if only SWB would come out with ALL 6 ;) all of my problems would be fixed. If you have made it this far, thanks! I think I know the answer to this long post but want to hear it from you gals. I am sorry that this post is so disorganized and choppy. :( I hope you gals can make sense of it and possibly advice me. TIA
