  1. My K student is listening in on some of her brother's Core B stuff and I don't consider her "doing the core", but she sure has picked up a lot anyway. You could always do B+C and just focus on reading/writing with your K student.
  2. Oldest used 100 EZ lessons, and my 2nd would watch the Leapfrog letter factory and pretty much taught herself to read using my Sonlight grade K readers which are like Bob books :)
  3. I always call them what grade they would be in ps, but if you asked them my ds would say I am in 2nd grade, but 3rd grade math and reading :)
  4. Have you talked to her about how you feel. I had a friend who I had known for a long time and one day she yelled at me for not valuing our friendship and I was her best friend. I knew we were friends but I didn't know how much she valued my friendship till she told me. I felt really bad and we ended up being best friends. I don't think I would of realized unless she would of said anything either because she isn't one to share deep down personal things either. I think that is what threw me is that she wasn't sharing her struggles and all that, but that was just her personality, but I truly was her best friend and she ended up mine too :)
  5. I have LHFHG and Beyond and there isn't much science in it. What there is we love. My ds loves Apologia, but you are right it does advance after Astronomy. My dc also love Sonlight Science. A lot of reading and then fun video/science experiments to do that aren't too difficult. Truthfully my kids would be happy with just the video that comes with it and do experiments :)
  6. I"m usually up around 7 because of the baby, but the kids usually sleep till 8:30ish and school hopefully will start around 10 for a little bit, but truthfully most happens around 2 p.m. when I lay the 2 little ones down for naps.
  7. Sounds good to me. I would start everything and see if your dc could handle a state study, but I would think it would be very doable. If your dc isn't a huge writer you might want to cut back a little on WWE when you are doing the writing with AAS. I know I was doing WWE and AAS with my ds for 1st and it was a lot of writing for him, so I would just adjust it a little.
  8. If you are on a budget and can't really afford it there are a lot of other programs or just readers you could go with that cost a lot less. I understand spending the money for a dc who is struggling, but if you have a dc who is quick at picking up reading they may advance beyond the program quickly and then you have wasted the money. I would probably use the money to buy fun readers and then just point out things like consonant blends and when you add e at the end of a word the vowel says its name...
  9. Thanks :) I don't usually have soda on hand and I think tea and coffe are the only things then. Since she has 7 little ones I will probably just not make any tea so there isn't any confusion over what they can have in the fridge.
  10. My cousin and her children are coming to visit and they are Mormon. I was wondering what they weren't suppose to eat/drink. I know if I ask my cousin she will say don't worry about it, but I don't want to have anything in the house that they aren't suppose to have :) I know no tea, but is there anything else :) Thank you so much.
  11. my ds is like that. Sometimes he will read a lot and then at times he will not want to touch anything for a while. I found with him he does better when he has non-fiction books to read. He will check out a dozen books on animals from the library and spent tons of time reading those. Maybe trying different genres might help.
  12. I would say dd probably does about 1.5 hrs a day, but it is usually broken up in 2 chunks.
  13. That's how I always remembered it, if you can replace it with very or also then use too, otherwise it is to :)
  14. I tried SOTW and Apologia Astronomy at that age and put it away. DS is almost 8 and he loves them both now. You might want to give him a little time.
  15. have you tried just using the workbook and text with the singapore math. I get confused when I look at the other books. Last year we just use the workbook and textbook and I added in memorizing addition/subtraction and my ds loved it :) Don't feel bad either our first year we went through Horizons, MUS, Miquon, and finally found a fit with Singapore. We tried Teaching Textbooks also this year and ds got about half way through and begged me to go back to Singapore. As long as they are learning that is the goal :)
  16. CHOW gets better the further you get into it I have found so far, and my ds has enjoyed it a lot more his this year compared to last :) I just have the wierd child who likes CHOW vs SOTW :)
  17. I'm late too but Shurley English is a little much in some points but I finally understand grammar because of it. The question answer flow they use make it so simple like adding 1+1. My ds got a little confused with FLL with learning pronoun lists...anyway, just learning their jingles might help if you want to be able to label the sentences easier :)
  18. I did ETC 1-3 and by then ds was ready to read pretty much on his own. Probably around the time he was around Frog and Toad readers. This is his 2nd grade year and he pretty much reads on his own but I will have him read to me some. He is probably around grade 3, or close to 4 reading level. Spelling is a different story though
  19. Misses: R&S english, TT3 Hits: Shurley English, Singapore math BLHFHG is somewhere in limbo but closer to hit :)
  20. My oldest 2 have preferred Singapore over MUS. They like to play with the MUS blocks though :)

  22. If you want to save a little on the printing and don't mind doing it on the computer you can download the Kindle app for PC or MAC on amazon for free and do it on your computer. I have one dc that likes to do this. I only knew about the McG readers there because I had really bad morning sickness forever and so we spent that time doing more of a Robinson style method :)
  23. Thank you for your suggestions. I guess his problem seems more like writing it down. I got out our letter tiles today and he was able to spell with those, but if I had him write it then he would mess some up. I think when I am able I might try to get level 2 of AAS and see if that helps some. Thanks :)
  24. http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/14640 I think this is what she is talking about. They have them for free on project gutenberg. I have used them with my 2 dc and they work great :)
  25. My second grader has always struggled more with writing. He probably does about 2-4 sentences a day plus math. I use to push him more with writing, but lately I have let him stick around 4 at the tops and it has been easier on us. He actually will spend time writing and drawing on his own now that I don't push him too much. One thing I found that works better for him is to break up the writing assignments because it just hurts him to write too much :( My kindergarten dd on the other hand loves to write and probably does better than my ds. I have noticed an improvement in his writing the last couple of months so maybe with a little time it will get better :)
