Disneyland at Christmas?
NancyNellen replied to scrapbabe's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My hubby took our kids the day after Christmas when we moved out here (hey, we were new and didn't know any better!) They were there from opening until closing (14 hours, I believe) and went on SIX rides. The shortest lines were 90 minutes. The longest well over 2 hours. I wouldn't do it :-) -
Only in a small town......
NancyNellen replied to 2squared's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Haha...yes. I remember when we had a squirrel BBQ itself on the transformer box in front of my house, which in turn knocked the electricity out for our whole road. Three fire trucks came...and the town only had four! There must have been 20 people there! It was the most exciting thing that had happened in months. -
Only in a small town......

I grew up in a town like that...I miss it. My elementary school bus driver was Charlie. He drove one of two town buses for 30 plus years. He gave everyone on the bus a silver dollar on the last day of school. Most everyone LOVED him. BUT... if you misbehaved on the bus he would stop the bus in front of your house and walk you to the door. He was very happy to share your misdemeanors with your parents. Also, 90% of the town's population had a police scanner. So, if you got a speeding/parking ticket the whole town knew within minutes :-) Population: 2500 -
Drinking out of one as we speak. I like them for reds, prefer stems for my whites.

What on earth do I do?

Check your iron levels, as well. I had chronic brain fog while I was anemic. -
My 12 year old chose the Nook...we liked the in-store help. We live a couple of miles from a B&N and it is very convenient to go in and ask questions and get immediate help. Other than that I think it's just a matter of preference. They are both easy on the eyes, and both have a number of additional options that are great.

What's on your nightstand?
NancyNellen replied to love2read's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Experience has taught me that the time limit on waiting for the "other" sock to miraculously re-appear is ALWAYS one day less than the time it actually takes to re-appear. -

How to make Oatmeal yummy?

I will second the agave nectar...it's delicious. We also sometimes add applesauce, mashed bananas and nuts, or even mini chocolate chips and sliced strawberries (when I'm feeling nice :-) -

My husband works out of town right now - flies out on Monday morning and back on Thursday night. I agree that you get used to it. It didn't take long for it to feel normal. Some things that have helped me: *Make sure your kids have chore routines and do them consistently. This keeps the house tidy and neat and makes sure all those nagging things (ie watering plants, cleaning toilets, changing out towels, picking up toys) get done. *Get rid of as much "stuff" as you can. Fewer things mean less picking up and less breakage. *Have convenient foods for those long days. I buy whole wheat pizza crusts in bulk, have burgers on hand in the freezer, and try to make a few "make-ahead" things over the weekend such as chili, soup, or BBQ chicken to grab when I am tired. *We skype, text, and call my hubby frequently. It helps us feel connected. I also email him lots of pictures throughout the day so he can be an active part of our lives even when he is far away. HTH,

This is exactly how my oldest two are, and have always been, which is why combining has always worked beautifully here. They are currently 14 and almost 13. They actually enjoy working with each other and get bummed if they are assigned separate tasks. So I guess I will just encourage you...they may stay that way!

My oldest 2 (16 mos apart) have always done everything except reading and math together. I do those individually at their own pace (although my younger caught up to her brother in reading rather quickly). History, writing, grammar, science and foreign language have always been done together and I would HIGHLY recommend it!

teach me how to cook quinoa
NancyNellen replied to SeekingSimplicity's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Quinoa and Black Bean Chili You can adjust the spice in the above as needed. Quinoa and Black Beans Quinoa Salad w/ Chicken, Grapes and Almonds Here are some of our favorite ways to eat quinoa. I find cooking it in chicken broth gives it a little more flavor. I also use it in soups in place of rice or couscous. HTH, -

Quote from a growing manchild
NancyNellen replied to romeacademy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My 14 year old finished an In & Out 3x3 meal yesterday with a large root bear and then said very seriously, "Please tell me there's more." There are 1450 calories in that meal (not to mention 75 grams of fat). I can so relate! -
