  1. LOL! I actually looked in the mirror last night and pulled my hair back, trying to figure out how she did that! Now I don't feel so silly!
  2. Thought I'd add a little levity to all the seriousness! Kris
  3. Both conventions are streamed live online at CNN.com without commentary. That's how I choose to watch so I don't know how the networks cover them. Kris
  4. I nursed all mine until about 2 1/2. Like the other posters, I screamed "Ouch!" very loudly, writhed in pain, and stopped nursing for a few minutes. I think it happened maybe twice, at the most, with each of them. Kris
  5. He would say no car loans. Ever. He's very adamant about that. I've never, ever heard him advise anyone, no matter the circumstances, to get a car loan. He thinks they are always a bad idea. Kris
  6. I would love to have a Kindle! In addition to the qualities already mentioned, it's also appealing to me because I have eye problems and with the Kindle I could change the size of the font to suit the changing moods of my eyesight. Kris
  7. 10 years between #2 and #3. Both labors were about 8 hours. Kris ETA: Labor with #1 was about 12.
  8. Thank you. That was a very good answer that completely answered my question. I didn't know about the "one-drop" law and that explains how the convention got started. I'm sorry to any of you that were offended by the thread hijack. Kris
  9. This is not meant to be snarky or critical in the least. I've always wondered why someone with a mixed racial heritage like Obama is considered African American rather than European American. Technically, he's both. I used to think the definition hinged on the culture in which the person was raised. But Obama was raised in a middle-class culture by his white mother and white grandparents. Is it merely how the person chooses to be indentified? Or are all people of mixed race considered African American? Again, I'm not trying to start anything but have always wondered about this. I agree that our country has demonstrated much progress by his nomination! Kris
  10. I think everyone does something different. I don't do anything with them! :tongue_smilie: Hopefully you'll here from someone who does use them. Kris
  11. We also just started 3B and my daughter has the same problem. She did fine until we hit the multiplication and division. She could not remember a single thing thing past the 2's and she had them down cold in May! I put away the workbook and put her on the computer with Times Attack again. It feels like we are starting the year out behind already but I didn't know what else to do. I had to fight the urge to be irritated with her, as if she'd get it if she just tried harder. No matter how hard she tried, the facts were just gone. Guess that's not much help but at least you know that you're not alone. Kris
  12. Found it! Plaid Dad said he used a cookie sheet for the pizza peel. :001_smile:
  13. I don't know! I just got the book from the library yesterday and I was so excited until I saw that I would have to buy a baking stone and a peeler. Big bucks I don't have. Bummer. Kris
  14. I was trying not to be inflammatory with my response. Anyone who wants more info can just google it and find out what they want to know. I really don't want to start a debate here. Kris
  15. It's multi-level marketing. Like Amway. They do sell some cleaning products. They've been the center of some controversy for several years. You're likely to get some PM's from reps willing to sell you some and also interested in recruiting you.
  16. Wow! When do they get to play? And did I read it correctly that they both will be doing two math programs? My daughter didn't do four ETC pages until she was eight! Each of us is different (obviously) and our children have different needs so I suppose it's possible that this is a good idea for your family. I suppose it's also possible that I'm not rigorous enough! To me it looks like a crazy, intense schedule for pre-k and k that leaves little room for them to just play and be kids. Kris
  17. Thanks for all the suggestions! I've got a bunch of books on reserve from the library now and I'll probably choose the one I like best and purchase it. I love the idea of a comprehensive textbook like the one recommended from culinary school. Heck, I would love it for me! It's on my wish list. You all have been a great help! Kris
  18. Ooh, free is always good! Those lessons look like a great start! Kris p.s. my real name is Kirsten :001_smile:
  19. Those cards look really neat! Now, I need to find them on the American site so I can see the price in dollars instead of euros! LOL! Kris
  20. After having a severe reaction to the anti-thyroid meds, I had radioactive iodine about a year and half ago. I thought Hashimoto's was the opposite of Graves? Kris
  21. Oh, how awful! I have Grave's eye disease too. I carry around an eye patch for those double-vision episodes. But driving can be problematic even with the patch. I especially have trouble with the mirrors for some reason. I can only read a few minutes before the double vision hits so I use an eye patch for that too. Anyway... I sympathize with you. I understand how emotionally upsetting it is. Kris
  22. Thanks! I put the book by Wilkes on reserve from the library. It does sound like what I'm looking for. I've figured out that I don't want something that's about assembling recipes, but something that teaches the processes in a systematic way. Kris
