  1. :iagree::iagree: We love this series so much that even though we are no longer Catholic, we still use it.
  2. We have a chain of ones like this here - they are called .99 only. I LOVE shopping there - I get a lot of frozen stuff like Digorno pizzas for $2, yogurt for .39, Mrs Bairds bread & bakery items for $1, Pepsi for $1, even ice cream for $1 {right now I have a freezer full of the Girl Scout Thin Mint & Samoa Ice Cream :D }
  3. Not a music major here, but my suitemate was so I know a little bit. There was a girl in the music program at my college {U. of the Incarnate Word, fwiw} who did major in organ / pipe organ as her primary instrument. They had a hard time finding an instructor for her at first, since it was not a main instrument. I can't answer most of your questions, but as to worrying about cc while away visiting universities, it's mostly considered an excused absence {or was when I was in cc}. She'll need to speak with her professors, explain why she's going to be out, and get any work either from the professor or another trustworthy student. FWIW, the same student I mentioned above put herself through college at a 40k a year school by playing the organ for weddings & church services.
  4. We don't normally hand out, but when I do it's the McDonald's Halloween coupons. They are $1 for 3 sets, and each set gets a free cone, milk, apple slices and burger. They are a BIG hit.
  5. Estes is a main brand of model rockets, but I've never heard of one like you are describing. Most now are electric launch. I'd call a hobby shop and ask them what would be closest.
  6. :bigear::bigear: In summer I'm either barefoot or I wear my crocs sandals, but in winter I'm stuck in sneakers and I hate it.
  7. We went to look at 2 houses today, and I fell in LOVE with house #1 {the one on Ashland from my last house post}. We discovered that under the carpet & peel and stick tile is vintage hardwood flooring in perfect condition, and really the only things wrong with the house is cosmetic. It will take a lot of work to restore, but it's all stuff I can do pretty much. And it's livable while we work. Only one problem - someone else put in an offer on it today :glare::glare::glare: We were told it was likely a rental landlord buying it to rent out. Could I get prayers that their offer is removed for whatever reason, and that then they accept my offer? We REALLY need this house, and I have a buyer lined up for my current home already.
  8. Actually depending on the type of RFID chip, it can be used long distance via a satellite. The most common type is a short range designed to be used only within a building, but even that chip does have long range capabilities. The short range chips used to have a range of up to a mile a good 5 years ago - I expect that has increased now.
  9. If they know the frequency the RFID chip is using, and write a program to collect the data, yes it is quite possible. Pretty easy actually as long as you know the frequency used. Stores have done it - RFID was invented to allow large stores like Walmart to do instant inventory in their warehouses. There have been a few cases were competitors basically hacked into the RFID network to let them see what the store was stocking and thus the planned sales.
  10. That's just it - there is NO way to turn off the RFID chips EVER. The RFID signals are picked up by a beacon or by satellite, and constantly beam out. Unless the chip is deprogramed or destroyed, the signals continue to be sent out and collected. Their saying they won't track off campus is a blatant lie. I did my semester project for my capstone class in CIS on RFID, and I really detest it after seeing what it can do.
  11. I'd be VERY worried. #1 you have a fire safety issue in having a locked door that likely leads to a main exit. #2 Is there anyone else adult with the youth pastor during youth group? His behavior sounds like grooming behavior for an abuser. I'd demand to have another parent meeting with ALL the youth group parents present.
  12. My city, and from what I can tell not only have parents gone along with it, they are singing it's praises  I know of several parents in the district but not at schools with the RFID ID's that are lobbying for their school to be next. SOOOOOOOOO glad I homeschool. There is NO way to turn off the RFID ID's, so they will know where the ID is 24/7. If that's not an invasion of privacy and personal freedoms I don't know what is.
  13. Yes. We are buying house #2 and then selling house #1. House #2 will be purchased with cash and have no mortgage, unlike house #1 which has a mortgage nearly equal to our monthly income {we had a 2/3 drop in income due to a death in the family 14 months ago}. House #1 also needs the entire roof replaced.
  14. Finally able to poke my head in here. Today has been crazy busy - calling our realtor and running errands. Yet again no school here :D But the good news is that I'm going to look at 2 houses tomorrow, and we have a tentative offer on our current house! I will be so glad once this is done!
  15. We're house hunting for a new house, and I hope to sell the old one but may have to just give it back to the lender. I have an escrow account with the lender for the taxes. What happens to the funds in the account if I sell the house? If I have to give it back to the lender?
  16. How long is Pertussis / Whooping Cough contagious if one has not been vaccinated and contracts it?
  17. For all those suggesting to rent instead of buy, it's not an option here. Because we need at least a 2 bedroom, rent would actually be higher than staying in the house we're in currently {which we can't afford}. Plus it's nearly impossible to find a handicapped rental which is a must for us. The cheapest option for us is to buy a home. Yes I am aware due to the age it may have Asbestos - we've dealt with that before. I am fairly handy, so I can do most of the repairs, and I have sources to get things I can't do repaired at a low cost. Yes the neighborhoods are slightly sketchy, but then so is where I am currently. I'm not a stranger to living in rough parts of town.
  18. Where does it say #2 is in a HOA? I didn't see that. It may not be a mandatory one - a lot of neighborhoods here have a non-mandatory HOA. I've been looking for 3 months already, and I have 2 months to be out of the house I'm in {and hopefully have it sold}. Houses in my neighborhood are taking 45-60 days to sell right now. We're in a position of we pretty much have to find SOMETHING ASAP that is in livable condition and doesn't need any MAJOR repairs {like roof replaced, foundation issues, termites}. Just saving up more funds isn't an option - we are dipping into the reserve every month we stay in the house we are in. I wish I could wait for the perfect house, but the odds are not in my favor. As for the repair costs, I have been making a list of the repairs needed and then pricing materials at Home Depot. 80% or more of the repairs will be done AFTER we move in - we'll have more funds then. Hopefully I'm able to get a little out of the place we are in now and put that towards repairs.
  19. Can you elaborate as to the Phenomena? I know I get headaches sometimes near substations, but that's it. I don't normally get a headache near this substation fwiw.
  20. Anyone wanna see round 2 of houses we're looking at? I have plans to go look at them Tuesday with my Agent :D What sayeth the HIVE about them? #2 http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/230-Ashland-Dr-San-Antonio-TX-78218/26297972_zpid/ #3 http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/322-Hialeah-Ave-San-Antonio-TX-78218/26305022_zpid/ #4 http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1015-Sumner-Dr-San-Antonio-TX-78218/26302016_zpid/ For those who remember my previous post looking for a house, house #1 got veto'd due to location. While I LOVE the neighborhood it's in and how handy it is to things, I'm concerned about losing bus service in that area, and since it's our ONLY means of transportation we just had to say no.
  21. I just remembered another one - TROLLZ! I never played with them as they creeped me out, but I remember a sermon when I was about 10 calling them the "instrument of Satan"!
  22. Hmm...my parents were pretty easy going. But from church {a non-denom} I learned that: Tarot Cards Oiegie boards Witchcraft Harry Potter Catholics Muslims Marilyn Manson Magic the Gathering & D&D Scouts Teletubbies Barney were Evil. I'm a die hard Harry Potter fan, did a stint as a Catholic, became a Muslim, and got my first lap dance to a Marilyn Manson song. I think I turned out okay :D
  23. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: I had HG with my dd, spent the better part of 5 months in the hospital and lost over 50 pounds. A couple of questions: 1. How far are you now? Are you at least 13 weeks? Zofran & Phergen didn't work for me, so as soon as I was 13 weeks they put me onto Compazine which DID work and is fairly low-cost. But you can't take it before 13 weeks due to the risk for a specific defect. 2. Have they checked your thyroid {when you are at least semi-properly hydrated}? My Endo is pretty sure my HG was actually my Thyroid problem at least in part. Wasn't caught as they don't normally run a thyroid panel until 20 weeks, and by then pregnancy puts my Auto-immune thyroid into remission.
  24. I need to vent, and I'm not sure what to do. Today we attended a local Girl Scout Expo, and it really drove home that dd struggles with the little things due to her ASD. She REALLY wanted to get to meet the National GS CEO and get the special patch she gives out, but the organizers were requiring the girl herself {no adults allowed} to have a photo taken with the CEO before they got the patch. Dd refuses to have her photo taken 90% of the time {including today} and definitely not without me present. She had a meltdown {which the folks organizing the line for the National CEO both saw & ignored} over the photo issue, and it took me a good 30 minutes to get her calmed back down enough to enjoy the rest of the expo. I tried asking could we just not do the photo - "no it's required". So dd didn't get the patch, and was very sad about it. Was I unreasonable to ask could we just not do the photo? Honestly I didn't want the photo anyway - I'm pretty sure they wanted photos for their PR, and I don't want my kid in that without my knowledge. I really don't know if I should complain due to lack of accommodation? There were HUGE issues for special needs kiddos of ALLLLL types at the event, like only 2 handicapped restrooms for the ENTIRE venue & the inability to get anyone in a wheelchair down to the main floor where the priority seating was. I'm pretty sure if would have been a nightmare for anyone low vision as well, as you had to go up or down a steep incline to get to seating, and some doors were locked with no explanation. And how do I work with dd on the photo issues?
