  1. We use the older SL IG's and rarely have a problem with it. I like those from about 2007 or older.
  2. :grouphug: I hope he finds work soon. If you need homeschooling materials while things are tight you can always request from The Book Samaritan - I just like to put that out there as many don't know about it.
  3. How old is the medical debt? If its getting anywhere near the statute of limitations on debts in your state, I'd ignore it unless you have the funds to pay it off. If you have the funds I'd try to work out some type of deal like .25 on the dollar.
  4. I like the Dave Ramsey concept, but I disagree with his order of the baby steps especially for very low income households.
  5. :grouphug: My dd is like this too. Her typical presentation of an ear infection is to start projectile vomiting. NO fever, no complaints of hurting. Until I learned this she had several severe ear infections :001_huh: And it's hard to get an ER to listen when the symptoms don't match the cause.
  6. I buy all year round, but I mostly buy from thrift shops, used book stores, etc. I also buy for multiple years - i.e. right now we are in 2nd and I'm buying for 3rd through 8th. I will pay more for 3rd items in than I would for 8th items, KWIM?
  7. Post them up here in the Free for Shipping thread? Or send them to The Book Samaritan?
  8. Dd found a beautiful professional ballet dance costume today at our local thrift shop, and fell in love with it for her halloween costume {she's going as a fairy princess}. It's mostly tulle, and the tag says it's from a costume shop and it's dry-clean only. I REALLY hate to pay to get it dry-cleaned as it would cost more than I paid for the costume {$2}. Whats the best way to clean it without dry-cleaning it?
  9. It's been a horrid day around here, complete with crying dd because we discovered that the local GS council has deemed Juliettes not eligible for anywhere near the same proceeds as girls in a troop, and not eligible for incentives based on orders sold for donations {Care to Share}. Oh and not informing anyone that Care to Share wasn't eligible either - I discovered entirely by accident. I'm strongly considering pulling her from GS if this is the way they want to go. Skipped lunch & took a nap, stayed home and did laundry today.
  10. Caramels? Dum Dum Pops? Pretzel & Cheese snack packs {the ones individually wrapped}? Stickers? Mini crayon sets with mini coloring books?
  11. :iagree::iagree: You need another source to figure it out. I've come across that MANY times in my 15 years of doing family history :D
  12. Nope. We're not neighborly - it's mostly rentals here. Pepto, or if it's really bad compazine. Busy....errands tomorrow, dr. appt on tuesday, field trip on Wednesday, Home & Garden show on Friday {and maybe Sunday too}, and Free museum admission on Saturday. Oh and school....mustn't forget about that :D
  13. Aww man, I just bought it for $42 from BN this morning!
  14. It really depend what kind of books we're talking about. Homeschooling books? - I'd sell or give away here free for shipping. Novels? - Goodwill. Kids Books? Goodwill.
  15. I'd recommend SL Core A, but I'm not super familiar with any of the rest of the programs like HOD and such. If you want to make it secular it's pretty easy to do so, there is a yahoo group for secular SL users :D with book suggestions. It's where I get most of my substitutions to make SL secular.
  16. I've only rented once in my life, and it was the rental from h*ll. It was from a company, and had several problems including a stove that leaked gas badly, dishwasher broke, fridge broke, and the entire apartment flooded every 28 days. I used to joke it was having it's period :D I was SOOOOOOO glad to get out of there!
  17. Thanks everyone for your help. I gave her about 1/6 of a 5mg pill last night {so about .75mg} and it worked WONDERFULLY. *Fingers Crossed* it wasn't just a fluke. She took the pill just fine, I put it in a spoonful of pudding :D Dd woke at close to 7am {when I did}, and got right up without even being sleepy! She's been going strong all day - not her normal I'm tired self. She said she felt much more rested than normal and that it was easier to fall asleep. And in her words - "I'm not a sleepy possum today mama, I'm a bright eyed bushy-tailed squirrel!" We always called her possum because she possums and goes back to sleep all day long.
  18. *Update post #13* Can anyone give me a good starting dose for my dd for melatonin? She is 6yo and weighs about 45lbs. She sleeps well once she gets to sleep after hours of getting back up and playing, but her days and nights are totally turned around and we've had no luck with attempts to fix it. I bought 3mg today, but I'm not sure how much of a pill to give her. Does it come in a liquid / chewable form for kids?
  19. I'm trying to find out what version of Usborne Book of Knowledge went with the 2010 edition of Core C {2} Science. Anyone have a catalog from 2010 or this package and is willing to let me know which version it was?
  20. For a slightly older child or teen, Sweetgrass is a great one. I read it when I was upper elementary and it really was a formative book that I still remember fondly.
  21. Not all grandparents suing for rights are bad, just as not all parents are good. Please do not quote as I may want to remove later. In our case, we want to know the kids are safe & happy - that's all. We would be happy with just a weekly 20 minute phone call {on our dime} or even an email from the kids to maintain contact, which I don't really feel is too much to ask. I have serious concerns about her ability to parent responsibly. She is a step-parent who adopted my niece and nephew just days before my brother passed away, and I know he had doubts about her, as evidenced by the fact that he put the family farm in trust with a trustee rather than give her control of it, and the kids won't get access until they are 21. She has a mental disorder and a history of not taking her medication and / or drinking while on medication. She has a drinking problem and I have known several instances where either she was driving drunk with the kids in the car or the kids had to drive her home because she wasn't capable of driving. I worry that CPS will pick up the kids for being in an unfit home because she has 10-12 people living in a very small 3 bed house PLUS she breeds dogs who all live inside the house {normally the parent dogs plus at least 2 litters of pups}.
  22. This. My mother and I are going through this with my niece and nephew - my brother passed away and my SIL is actively preventing us from having contact with the kids. When my brother was a live we spoke to them on the phone multiple times a week and even went up to visit. I worry about how she is treating the kids a lot - I know my nephew wasn't happy at all the last few times we managed to speak with him. We are seriously thinking of suing to force her to re-establish contact with the kids.
  23. :grouphug: I'd ask the director if you could attend the first meeting prior to paying the fee to see if it is going to work for your family. That way it's not a total loss - if it works you can pay the fee to her then, if not then it didn't work. I'm not sure the ages of your kiddos, but I'd just be honest with them that we are going to try a new homeschool group, but you're not sure it will work for XYZ reasons.
  24. No. I'm a very private person and I strongly dislike having others in my home.
  25. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: If it helps, that's more than I managed to get done today. I just sat outside in the sunshine and waited for the mailman. I have Grave's Disease {auto immune hyperthyroid} and another unknown auto-immune, they aren't sure if it's RA, Fibro, or CFS or a combo of all three. I got sick a year away from finishing a triple major in college, and had to quit.
