  1. You can order as a home educator - I do it all the time. You do have to call to sign up though - you can't do it online. The number to call is 1-800-724-6527 and ask for the home educator department. Also, I hope this is okay to post, but they do bonus points when you sign up if you are referred by another teacher. You get 250 bonus points and so does the person referring you. My referral number is 1453202968 if anyone wants to use it.
  2. Let me check my library used book store - they had a BUNCH of TX history textbooks and I think that was one of them. If so I can probably get you a copy for about $5 shipped.
  3. I have no idea. I know we'll be signing dd up for one of the local programs, so she will get something even if finances are too tight to buy things. Other than that...it depends what the local thrifts have. I picked up a twin size Disney Princess bed tent today, but I'm pretty sure she'll get that before the holiday.
  4. :grouphug: There isn't much out there. I'm writing one for dd to use for that level, but won't be done for at least a year {it's a SL inspired TX history}. Are you anywhere near San Antonio? I know of a couple of places here that have programs you could look at to see if they would work for you.
  5. That's now called Core A :D and makes a GREAT place to start with Sonlight, especially with the ages of your kids as you can combine them all in one core. I bet in the box was at least part of the books that go with it. There should be a book list in the first few pages of the guide.
  6. ETA: Pitching it isn't an option as there simply isn't funds for a replacement in the budget. The mattress wasn't slept on by a smoker, but was in a smoker's house. I will most likely be sleeping on it NOT my dd as she is highly allergic to tobacco.
  7. I posted a while back about getting a bedroom set for my dd free from the neighbor. Said neighbor smokes & I thought it was only outside the house but the mattress still smells like cigarette smoke. I've had it airing in my garage for a week. It has improved slightly but no where near enough. What else can I do to get the smoke smell out? Baking Soda? Activated Charcoal? ETA: Pitching it and buying a new one simply isn't an option, as the funds as not there and won't be. I'll be sleeping on it not my dd most of the time.
  8. Cigarette smoke on a person / things does bother my asthma, but I am sensitive to smoke. Dd is allergic to tobacco and just being around someone who smokes is enough to flare her.
  9. Our food bank coordinates this for our area. They also do after school cafes where kids can get a good sized snack / small dinner and homework help.
  10. I think she deleted her account
  11. You need to do what is best for you. Send a card, express your condolences, and if there are any questions asked you were "dealing with a medical issue". :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
  12. I still remember it clearly like it was yesterday. I was in AP English 4 and the special ed teacher ran in from the classroom next door and told us to turn the TV on, there had been an attack in NYC. I watched the entire thing on TV. We didn't do anything else that morning, the school was on lockdown and they didn't even have us switch classes. I was so scared and had to sneak out to the RR and use my cell to call my folks to see were they okay. I still don't like 9-11. That was dd's due date in 2006 and I went into labor late on the 10th, but I held out until the 12th as I didn't want her born on 9-11 and to have to endure that all her life.
  13. I know you say ordering from RR only, but I wanted to mention that you could put a request in to The Book Samaritan to help stretch your budget.
  14. You might not be able to return them, but I have seen them sold online as really they are new. I'd advise you to go to Lane Bryant and be fitted there - they were wonderful fitting me and I'm very hard to fit.
  15. My dad was a Korean War Vet, so war movies were off limits in our house. That being said, He always said "The Bridges of Tokori" was very accurate - he was one of the guys picking up the downed pilots and getting them back to safety.
  16. This is our first year using SL and we are loving it. I can't recommend is highly enough :D This is the first year we're actually relaxed and still getting school done, because SL is all laid out for me and I don't have to tweak it {much}. I don't think you could combine all 4 kids in 1 core though. I would put the two oldest in Core D, and the two youngest in Core P4/5 or Core P3/4 depending on their level.
  17. Our council has introduced "banded proceeds" for GS not part of a troop. This is new this year and doesn't sound right to me. This is our first year doing the fall nut / candy sale fwiw. Girls part of a troop get 15% of the proceeds, and boxes cost $4, $6, $8 or $10. So they get anywhere from .60 a box to $1.50 a box. If a girl sold 10 boxes she would get anywhere from $6 to $15, depending on the box cost. Girls not part of a troop get a banded amount depending on how many boxes they sold regardless of the box price, in increments of 10. It works out to about .89 a box. If a girl sold 10 boxes, she would get a flat rate of $8.90. Does that sound fair to you? Would you talk to / complain to the council about it? I'm not liking this banded proceeds thing at all :glare: It takes the selling incentive out of it to sell the higher priced boxes
  18. I've asked on the SL boards, but haven't gotten an answer yet and my patience is waning :D How long does it take SL to process a Gift Certificate order and email it out? I understand they manually issue them {which I find odd :glare:}. Waiting on SL GC in payment for a few items, and then I need to make my big science order for this year....and I'm impatient!
  19. We're going to a couple of community events, so dd gets plenty of t-or-t time in. There is a festival a few days before for the local access ability group that will be doing candy give aways at the tables, so it's pretty low-key. And Morgan's Wonderland {Special Needs amusement Park} is doing a special event we'll be attending too. She wants to be a princess :D
  20. I keep stuff on hand for quick meals - normally frozen chinese that I can toss in the over quickly while I make rice, or canned chicken and I make chicken helper.
  21. I'm already planning for next year, and we're only 2 weeks into this year. I have to start early to find our materials used or raise the funds to buy new.
  22. Very happy with Sonlight Core B - wish I has switched last year. I'm still unsure on the math - MCP Math B doesn't seem to have enough instruction for dd, and I'm debating going to MUS.
  23. No idea. I do know a lot of midwives who go to the school in El Paso, TX or there is one in Florida.
  24. I'd contact the nearest midwife school and ask do they have some type of fast tracked training for Doctors. And I'm sure he will have a demand - it's quite difficult in some places to find a midwife or OB willing to do a home birth.
