  1. Definitely normal, I'm overwhelmed at picking curricula all the time! I'm hoping this doesn't overwhelm you even more but have you looked at Living Books Curriculum? I've never used it but I look at it all the time, you might like it too. There's lots of literature and from the samples it looks like it has quite a few hands on activities. It includes every subject but Math too. :001_smile:
  2. We're looking at Bigger for dss's 7 & 9, I really like the looks of it and so does dh. I have a couple questions though. How much hands on activities are there really? Are there science experiments? Dss9 has really shown and interest in science. Would you use extensions for a dyslexic 10yo in 4th grade? I think that's it.. for now :tongue_smilie:
  3. :iagree: Houses should be in the same condition as when the renter moved in.
  4. I prefer two story houses (ours is a 4 story if you count the basement and finished attic :tongue_smilie:)
  5. That is awesome! I'm glad you and your dc enjoyed it! I hope you can go again :001_smile:
  6. They think he is a Wheaten terrier and Schnauzer mix among other things probably. He weighs about 30 pounds. :001_smile: It's awesome because he's completely trained, and we don't have to go through the puppy stage! He's great :D
  7. :grouphug: I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm praying for everyone affected. :grouphug:
  8. My niece got her son a dog for Christmas, she adopted him from the humane society. When we we're talking she told me that she was going to give him away, or send him back to the humane society. Well, we have been wanting another dog.. So this morning we went and got him. He's 6 years old, and his name is Beanie. I'm going to attempt to attach a picture of dd14 and Beanie :tongue_smilie:
  9. :iagree: Never, that is crazy! When my dd went to 6th grade camp (she was in ps) they did something similar. I was horrified. I was also they only one who complained about it, and the principal didn't seem to get where I was coming from.
  10. Thanks for starting the thread, I've been thinking about this lately. My dd's never seem to pay attention to the people around them. Pretty recently, dh took them to Kmart they we're looking at the clothes and dh was across the aisle/walkway looking at clothes for ds's he wasn't paying attention and when he looked up a guy who worked there was talking to my dd's and he saw them start walking towards the door to the storage room. He quickly walked up to them and asked what was going on and they said they we're getting a different size of what shirt they wanted. Dh just said that they weren't going to buying the shirt and they left. Afterwards, we talked to them about it and they said they didn't know why he wanted them to go with him but they didn't want to be rude, so they went and that he didn't look like a creep (he was young probably in his 20's). I also yelled at dh for not paying closer attention to them. Dh said his radar went off as soon as he noticed what was going on. We talked about being aware sense but I want to drill it in there head. I was so creeped out, still am. Actually now that I think about it, I haven't gone to Kmart sense.
  11. :iagree: And don't forget about fried potatoes! My kids love them :tongue_smilie:
  12. The only formal History anyone's doing is dd13 doing MFW AHL. Next year I'll be homeschooling a K, 3rd, 4th, 9/10th and possibly 8th. My 9th grader told me she wants to take AP Classes and dual enroll at CC in 11th grade (that's as early as you can around here). I don't think we're going to continue with Middle Ages, and I think sense the 3rd & 4th grader have been in PS we should just do an overview of American & World History and then start the history cycle. Would you start with World History or American History for these ages? :bigear:
  13. We've barely got any snow this year! But last night we got 4 inches and it's still snowing! The public schools had a snow day and so did dd14's private school, so I called a snow day too! They're outside playing in the snow, They're going to be excited when I tell them we're going to my sisters to go sleeding! (she has a huge hill) :D
  14. I think it's a mix of being 13 and needing more things to do. :001_smile: Is there any other club/sport/etc that she's interested in? What about a babysitting class? (my dd13 took this class to get certified and now she can babysit alot more).
  15. The oldest I'm homeschooling is considered an 8th grader age wise, but is doing 9th grade work.:)
  16. I'm so excited! :D I don't have any really good friends that also homeschool (which is sometimes hard if I need to vent about something only homeschool mom's would know ;)) My bestfriend just said she was done with the public school and she's pulling out her dc. She has an 15yo ds, 13yo dd, 11 yo dd, 8 yo ds, 5 yo ds and a 1 yo dd. Her 11yo is being bullied and she's had multiple meetings with the principle and nothing was done. Her 8yo is advanced for his age and they don't have a gifted program and won't let him skip a grade. Her 5yo is very shy and is having problems with the social aspect, but he's doing great academically. She's also having a hard time keeping up with everything! She misses spending time with her kids. We've talked about homeschooling before and she always said it could be an option, but she wanted to do 'so and so' first. She wants me to help her pick out curriculum too. I'm not sure what to suggest, sense it's the middle of the year. Maybe someone has some suggestions, especially for the highschooler starting mid year :bigear: I started homeschooling my dss's mid year but it's different because they're younger and we're just doing light school work and some unschooling until next year, But her kids are older. So I'm not sure what to suggest!
