  1. No suggestions, but the idea of living on a boat sounds like heaven. I'm grew up in Bermuda and one of my favorite things to do was going out in our family friend's boat and letting the waves lull me to sleep. I hope it works out for you!!:001_smile:
  2. I've bought several school items used from Amazon and have never had a problem. I just check to make sure the ISBN numbers are the same as the books I want and that the seller has a good reputation. Good luck- the savings can really add up
  3. I do like them to ask before they get food and the answer is usually yes. We normally don't keep junk food around so that's not a problem, but they would drink a gallon of milk a day if I let them- which wouldn't be a problem if milk wasn't so expensive:glare:
  4. I wear a tankini w/ a skirted bottom to cover everything I don't want the world to see- but if I thought I could get away with it, I would definitely wear a bikini. My husband especially would love to see me in one, but I am sure he is blinded by love:tongue_smilie:
  5. Lands End are the best especially if you have a large chest like myself and need the support of a bra. It's amazing how well their built in bra swim tops work.
  6. I saw that infomercial too and my kids watched it with me. I love all those songs and amazingly know most of the words. One of my favorite 70's songs is "Miracles" by Jefferson Starship- I go into another world when I hear that song!!
  7. Congrats, my son will be 13 next year- where does the time go!
  8. I am having my eight grader do level H this year. He used level F last year and wanted to continue with it.
  9. We do math 5 days a week but depending on how much they have covered, 1 of the days might be a lighter workload than the others.
  10. I use Sonlight and have managed to find most reader and read alouds through our library. I do buy either new or used the books that we use as primary resources.
  11. My kids love to hear stories from my and my husband's childhoods. They especially love the one where my sister dropped a rock on my head when she was mad w/ me:tongue_smilie:
  12. My name is Crystal and I've been lurking on these boards for a while now. I have learned so much about what works and what doesn't from these boards. My husband and I have 2 boys ages 8 and 11. I did the homeschooling for our 1st 3 years and my husband has taken over for the last 2 while I've gone back to work. We primarily use Sonlight (secularly) mixed with WTM methods. We toyed with the idea of sending the boys to public school this year, but decided against it primarily because we see how much they are benefitting from spending loads of time w/ their father.
  13. My husband's sister lives in Renton which is fairly near Seattle and we are so jealous because she not only gets money from the dept of education to use on school supplies but her kids can go to the what she call the "Homeschool Center" and take classes for free. Sometimes I wish we lived there...
  14. Lands End suits are great. I wear a DD on top so suits from places like Target while cute, are useless!! I love that Lands End offers suits that you can buy in sized cups with both underwire or soft cup options. Last year I bought an underwire and this year I got a soft cup as the top I wanted didn't come in an underwire option and I have been pleased with both. That combined w/ the fact that they have been offering lots of free shipping codes and you can return items to Sears makes Lands End the place for me.
  15. I definitely think it is possible. I'm a size 12 and decided that I didn't need to gain heaps of weight when I got pregnant. My midwife assured me that the extra calories needed for eating for 2 could be achieved by eating 2 yogurts a day not platefuls of food. Actually I think I was at my healthiest during both my pregnancies as I really watched what I ate and exercised on a regular basis. Sad to say those healthy ways slipped once the babies came, but it did help a lot to not have any real weight to lose.
  16. My boys enjoy watching Carmen San Diego when we borrow the dvds from the library and we own the computer game which we used when doing Sonlight core 5.
  17. My husband does the bulk of homeschooling and the kids have done their schoolwork while he has had his hair cut, doctor's visits, & sometimes even when he has to take them along on a gig. People always complement him on how well behaved they are- of course they don't see them at home when they are chasing each other around the house:tongue_smilie:!
  18. I've gotten a lot of books from Goodwill that are used in Sonlight for only 20 cents each. I also bought Saxon Algebra 1 2003 edition from the library for 50 cents.
  19. My kids have read a few of the books and enjoyed them- Now we can look for these videos too!
  20. I generally don't do them, but my husband loves to. He took the "What Jedi are you" test about 5 times until he got the "right" answer and then made the whole family take it too!!:tongue_smilie:
  21. Our kids seem to love doing their schoolwork and just about everything else in our bedroom!! My youngest son will even drag his desk in there if he needs a hard surface to write on!
