  1. We've been using the free resources at the National Council for Geographic Education for the past 3 years. There are lessons for each month along with answers. My kids have found the activities fun. http://ncge.org/geography-club-resources
  2. I love to spread either fig butter or chilli jelly onto toasted Trader Joes Tuscan pane, top with ricotta, salt, pepper , and a few sliced almonds. Delish!!!
  3. The Hampton Inn on W 35th St is good. We've stayed there twice. The rooms are small, but recently remodeled with great beds and dark wood cabinets in the bathroom. The free breakfast is also a plus. Also they will store your bag for free before check in and after checkout. Not that far to walk to Penn station.
  4. My kids liked the Van Gogh museum. We went 3 yrs ago and they had a special take along brochure they could fill in as we walked around the museum. We also visited the kinder museum part of the Jewish historical museum- very awesome and they were able to make and bake a tiny loaf of challah! Amsterdam is very beautiful- have fun!
  5. My eldest is starting 9th grade this fall. We started homeschooling 1/2 way through 1st grade- wow can't believe it's been that long !
  6. I used it this yr with my 5th grader. Basically, I had him read a section- say the one on expository paragraphs, and then I would have him write a paragraph based on whatever book he was reading at the time. I did like this method, although trying to tie it all together did take a little planning. We did this after we had gone through writing strands so I didn't have to come up with ideas for the whole yr! Overall, I recommend it!
  7. My kids and husband will watch with me and we'll be snacking on scones and tea. My son wanted an English breakfast but I told him it was a bit too early to do all that cooking!
  8. I'm black, my husband is white, and our 2 kids are biracial.
  9. You would be very close to the North End and also to the downtown area. The North End is very fun with lots of great places to eat-it's also close to Fanueil hall. Hope you have a great time.
  10. Both my sons have used it from levels D-H. I liked the variety of skills that were taught. Basically we did one page per day for 4 days and did a test on the 5th day. I usually had them skip the writing part but sometimes they went and ahead and did it anyway! I would say they are natural spellers so I can't say whether the program will help improve spelling as much as it introduces new vocabulary to kids who already have spelling basics down. HTH
  11. I have a 9 yr and 12 yr old and they totally use it independently. I would say we had to explain very little in terms of how to complete an assignment. HTH
