  1. It is so hard figuring out what fits and is comfortable….and extra hard to be fashionable.
  2. Yes. My Altra Lone Peaks feel like slippers as they are so comfortable.
  3. I would institute from the start that the phone charges overnight in a parents bedroom as it is far too easy for teens to spend hours on the phone at night vs sleeping
  4. Google money origami. Fun ideas for folding the dollars
  5. I have lots of ideas….for the work one and for other get together. Tomorrow I need to see if I need sweet or savory and what others are bringing
  6. I would consult with a lawyer regarding a special needs trust. Not sure all of the qualifications but it allows kids to still qualify for state funded help. does your son qualify for disability? Could he in the future? An ABLE account might help. my situation is different as all of my kids have disabilities and now are over 18z .
  7. Practically, make sure they know the basics of taxes, insurance, saving, investing, how loans/credit work, etc. For fun I asked mine all to name one place they wanted to go and all picked the same family vacation spot we have gone to almost every year of their lives. This summer though we will stay ON Mackinac Island for a few days (before we always stayed in the much cheaper mainland city ) and we will do some special things.
  8. Speed Queen for the washer. I think mine is a commercial grade. Washes a load in about 25 minutes. Minimal settings but I don’t ever use anything fancy. 98% of the time it is regular wash, extra large load. 2% is a delicate or small load. I don’t think dryers matter as much so if you don’t care about a matching set you can likely get a very basic extra large capacity dryer cheaper than the Speed Queen one. Then again I only ever use one setting in my dryer either.
  9. Do you have a favorite recipe?
  10. Next Thursday we are having a dip potluck at work. Just a small group of 6 of us. No food allergies/intolerances. I was thinking of a crab Rangoon dip with wonton strips but am open to other ideas. Can be warm or cold, sweet or savory, just needs to be easy and transport well. We can put in oven, crock pot, fridge or microwave as needed.
  11. Same here. I might try making them even though I would be the only person who would eat them.
  12. I just finished The Messy Lives of Book People. Story of a cleaning lady who works for a famous author and then becomes her assistant. It was a good listen.
  13. I am feeling a bit like a Scrooge this year but we have cut back on gift giving. my young adult kids plus 1 spouse will each get a $20-25 gift under the tree and then a popcorn bucket for the theater per household. Then I bought ferry tickets and a 2 night stay on Mackinaw Island with a balcony room overlooking the water. I don’t buy gifts for the “grandsons” (I act like grandma and they call me grandma but they are my adopted son’s bio brother’s boys) as they get TONS of gifts for Christmas. Instead of do experiences with them. and I buy NO one else a gift…..not extended family , not friends, no one. On the flip side, I don’t get any gifts either.
  14. And pieces that might not have any legal access to it?
  15. Another option for some if they don’t qualify for a nursing home is an adult foster care home aka group home. All depends on their care needs and mental status.
  16. Yes, our issue is that we aren’t sure we have any legal ways to access the land. I have sent these ideas to my brother to process.
  17. Oh, we have a piece that is even better in South Carolina. It is in a subdivision and is a triangle 5 feet at the base and 2 sides of 13 feet each……yep….a whole 32 sq ft. Not really even enough to pitch my tent on.
  18. Braxton and Calhoun if I remember right. Several pieces ranging from 0.16 acres up to 3 acres or so. I can look more tomorrow
  19. It was 14 years ago 😒 i wondered about donating to the township/county or a conservation group…..but not sure they want anything that is land locked with no visible/deeded easement for access. One property is so old that the deed/legal description is something like : From the old oak tree 30 large paces to Mrs Watsons fence to the center of the creek to the big rock…….no lie, it is that bad. And the oak tree died 100 years ago, the fence is long gone, the creek moved a bit and who knows which rock it is.
  20. As a family (6 of us each getting a %) we inherited some property in West Virginia. A few pieces we want to keep. Several though as essentially worthless to us. The taxable values on each piece are about $200. These are land locked pieces of an acre or so way up in the mountains. The person we inherited them from bought them at a tax sale 40+ years ago.....and there was a reason they went to a tax sale way back then. We would be fine letting them go to a tax sale but don't want to risk our credit scores or having a lien put on our property. The tax bills are about $9 a year but because they have to send out 6 tax bills for each piece each have to pay the minimum payment which might be $15....so we are paying $75 total for a tax bill of $9. We just need to simplify things greatly as one family member is nearing elderly and another quite ill. Any ideas? No realtor would take this on, so far no adjacent property owners are interested, and I doubt any charity would accept them as a donation.
