  1. So are you talking, End of life? Too serious for me, but here is a bump for more views. :)
  2. These resources are things I came across sometime ago, while I have used some of both resources they are not our main math thing. Critical Thinking Approach, Poage - offers a complete series written to a mature temperment, emotional age range young adult, imo. http://www.actionmathematics.com/ Fractions and More, Migachyov - is written in a friendly tone and Dina's voice is clearly speaking to the reader. Emotional age range younger than above, but not babyish. http://www.quaternionpress.com/buybooks.html Both focus on the essentials free of fluff, both are fairly traditional in there approach to math. Both could be something worth exploring.

  5. Get a new math book, and include him in the search slash decision process. Let him take a break while you two are looking for something different this looks good http://www.kosjourney.com/
  6. Link to a Jay Hosler book- http://www.amazon.com/Evolution-The-Story-Life-Earth/dp/0809043114/ref=lp_B0033L3AK0_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334636756&sr=1-1
  7. So... Is there honestly a possibility that I'm harming my children's future math abilities by not delaying?? **worried**:001_huh: No. Learning happens all of the time (good or bad) so when exactly do ideas of; 'more', 'less', 'up', down, left, and right begin? These relationships happen to be math. Formal math programs can build off of these relationships.
  8. AMS http://www.ams.org/home/page Amazon link to Japanese math books, also has some Gelfand Books. ,<the AMS store sometimes has the Japanese books on sale fwiw> http://www.amazon.com/Algebra-Geometry-Japanese-Grade-Mathematical/dp/0821805819/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1334506537&sr=8-6
  9. Ray, the info about this program at the website looks really interesting, but there's not a whole lot of it. No sample pages or anything. It does say it includes a lot of word problems, which I think is great. Do you feel they are well written - challenging? Anything else you could tell me about this program? It sounds like the two "equations" books (that come after the fractions book) would be a complete pre-Algebra course. Am I interpreting that correctly? Do you feel this is a complete program, or is it more of a supplement? __________________ The first two books are written in a friendly tone one can almost ‘hear’ Dina talking to you. The last two are ‘pre-Algebra’, but they lack the personal speaking tone of the previous books becoming more formal in style. My opinion is that, Fractions and More is bare bones core material placing more focus on “how to†than “whyâ€. Also the word problems are straight forward not on par with something like Singapore’s CWP series. While not sounding like a glowing recommendation, my experience is for a concentrated period of study, upon completion(fractions and more) the student can transition into something like Russian Math 6. Now, AOPS Pre-algebra is what I would spend a year or two using instead of working through the entire ‘Quaternion Press’ books. AOPS site has really raised the bar for math materials; videos, forums, and accurate texts. http://www.artofproblemsolving.com/Store/viewitem.php?item=prealgebra
  10. Donald Duck + math + 27 mins = http://youtu.be/YRD4gb0p5RM
  11. There is this online math program- http://www.kosjourney.com/ it is something I have not used yet...fwiw.
  12. Fractions and More, by Dina Migachyov. It is the 2nd book in her 'how to make your child successful in math' series. http://www.quaternionpress.com/buybooks.html
  13. In the book 'Deep Survival' a couple of schools of thought on 'survival' training came up, and of the two I lean toward the second style..in theory. http://www.mountainshepherd.com/ Bryon Kern's http://www.ifnaturallearning.com/programs/coyote-camp-2011/ Mark Morey
  14. I do not use this, but maybe its something to look into, heck its free for a couple months, try it out over the summer? http://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/index.php?option=com_hsbc_epp_order&Itemid=1416&c=1
  15. Professor Daniel Willingham has this YouTube video called 'teaching content is teaching reading' I think it's worth the time to watch and to consider the points raised in it. Maybe some help with your quest.
  16. I added them to Goodreader for later perusal. I am still using the Mct materials to good affect; with some parts taking longer to finish.
  17. This we are new to its use, however. http://kids.britannica.com/
  18. We had success with both phonic programs below, but The Dancing Bears set from Sound Foundations did the trick for second learner. If I could do-over the Dancing Bears set would get the nod for both children. Fwiw. http://www.criticalthinking.com/getProductDetails.do?code=c&id=04301 http://www.prometheantrust.org/usshop.htm

  20. Joint mobility type exercises might offer some relief, assuming we are not talking about a recent injury. Personally limbering up has become mandatory daily 15 min routine upon getting out've bed. http://www.maxwellsc.com/joint-mobility-movements.cfm
  21. I do not remember what we did, but MCT has a excellent support forum+ this bump for your thead- http://www.rfwp.com/pages/forum/
  22. I would start here with arithmetic http://www.actionmathematics.com/ Establish a routine and stick with it until first book is finished. Follow the barebones framework but do not be afraid to seek other sources to explain any topics that get sticky...just do not get lost down rabbit trails..until this arithmetic book is done. { the age range for course is young adult to adult remedial}
  23. 1) Nurk, Mathematics 6, paper book and PDF, and Tanton, Mathematical Thinking PDF 2) Thompson, MCT level 2-3, and various topical books from other publishers example; Cottonwood press’ DownWriteFunny by Randy Larson. 3) Petersons Directed Handwriting, Cursive PDF 4) Nebel, Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding Vol. 2-3, paper book and PDF 5) HAOH, Ancient Upper Elementary, and finishing American history from last year mp3 6) Murphy, Lessons for the Young Economist both paper and Kindle app on iPad/Pod, and Mayburys' Uncle Eric books in addition 7) Human Japanese, iPod app I shall consider adding Latin for the New Millennium. {bolded e-formats to show the encroachment of different delivery methods}
