  1. Warning points sound too much like a public school to me....:)
  2. So, if I sign in through Facebook why is it not carrying over my Hive status if it is associated with the same email address; instead creating multiple accounts?
  3. :cursing: Is it just me, or are the Christmas Dresses this year horrid? I have been shopping with my daughter for over two weeks now and the ones that I find nice are overshadowed by horrid, imported, stretch spandex junk. I finally conceited and allowed my daughter to try on one at Khol's; it had so much glitter that it literally gave her a 24 inch scratch down the side of her arm and drew blood. I can't bring myself to spend money on such poor quality garbage. So now we are trying to find something of quality in a reasonable price range and well...we can't seem to agree. I really don't want to cave, we have a dress that her Grandmother bought her last year from Justice, that was so,so and about as close to the line of what I find appropriate. She has other dresses in her closet; I think I am at the point of telling her to just where what she has...I feel like the big bad ogre. Am I the only one having a hard time breaking tradition?
  4. I would like to add that Cornell also has Raven Lite software available to study and track sounds that students are uncertain of, including some herps.
  5. In your opinion what is the best self guided curriculum that is not theologically based. Thank you!:001_smile:
  6. So here I am... In a rural town, a non-atheist, but not quite mainstream "christian". I have a daughter who has grown up around medicince and science both directly (her dad is a doctor) and indirectly (her sister is a cancer survivor). I am at the end of my rope trying to make her fit in one size fits all schooling. She is gifted, learned (wordly and spiritually), so for now this is her choice. I am looking for science curriculum that offers hands on work beyond bending light through a prisim. I am clear that she has already by fourth grade surpassed at least my math skills. She has taken NUMATs and is testing average for an 8th grader (though she is in PS 4th). I have tried everything from building a relationship with the school to funding a district wide science program. I give up, need help, and am looking for direction. I appreciate all those of you who want to pray for her...I do it too, but at this point I am a mama on a mission looking for a curriculum that is going to make her heart sing. Feel free to correct my mistakes - its a forum, so my guess is I won't spend much time correcting them myself. Thoughts? K We have done k12, Calvert (though not in 3 years) We aren't interested in anything new earth based. Thought there was one I saw that looked to at least bridge the two a bit.
  7. I am considering stepping back off into the abyss of homeschooling again. My DD is now caught up in the struggle of science based interests....EVERYONE...trying to make her well rounded (which she doesn't want to be and I doubt ever will be since she is more like a polygon). So bump, that you are trying to make things different for her...if you find a solution other than "well-rounded" let me know. :o)
  8. Hi. I noticed that someone on this thread had a sample of the curriculum? I am new to the list, but would love to have an example. My DD is in 5th grade and is accelerated, bored, and very unhappy. So we are looking for an alternative. We homeschooled for 1/2 of K & 1/2 of first before returning home while my youngest daughter was be treated for Pre-B ALL...(having a lap top and being mobile just made it easier on all of us). We have tried two years with both girls now in a bricks and motar. We have found many resources for my younger daughter (until yesterday when they told me they would not be available next year) but have struggled all yera with my gifted learner. My biggest concerrns are being able to accelerate at her pace. :grouphug: Glad to find this fourm. K.
