  1. I gave up trying to slow ds down. I would just meet your Dc where they are. I plan to add in challengeing word problems and beast academy soon for ds.
  2. Ds just started 2nd grade material Math :Abeka 2 Phonics :Horizons 2 Spelling :Rod and Staff 2 English :Rod and Staff 2 Science :Lifepac 2 with living books and netflix History : Lifepac 2 with books and netflic Handwriting : Abeka K4 cursive Tons of logic puzzles and crafts I think I am going to add in Beast Academy soon for him along with CWP 1 Dd is prek and we will finish going through Abeka K4 phonics and rod and staff workbooks. Ice she finishes that I am not sure yet what to do next with her.
  3. Haven't used McRuffy but Horizons is very spiral. I think it gives plenty of explanation. My 5yr old is able to read the rule on the top of the page and complete the lesson by himself. He loves doing his phonics. It goes pretty fast but there is tons of review.
  4. I would start him on it and see how it goes. It is very gentle. My 5yr old found it very boring.
  5. 6-7am: we all get up 8: breakfast 8-10: kids play and/or watch videos 10-10:15: DS5 starts independant worksheets (handwriting, reading comp) while I do phonics with DD4 10:15-10:30: Go over spelling with DS5. He completes workbook page. I work with DD4 on math while DS5 does the workbook page. DD4 is now done with the day besides a few fun things like coloring pages or tracing. 10:30-11: DS5 does math 11-11:30: DS5 does phonics 11:30-12:30: lunch break 12:30-12:45: science 12:45-1:00: history 1-1:15: English Done for the day!
  6. We use Rod and Staff. I love it and plan to use it with all the kids.
  7. My sister works for a public school and was able to get me K-6th of Envision math for free. I looked at it but decided to only use it as a supplement. It seemed to jump around a lot and doesn't give near enough practice.
  8. We focused on safety, hygiene and basic holiday stuff.
  9. For K we just did experiments and watched netflix videos.
  10. We plan to start Latin soon because it is the base of all romantic languages (Italian, French, Spanish, etc.) so it will make those easier to learn in the long run. Also if they ever decide to go in the medical or law the language derives from Latin.
  11. We love R&S spelling. We tried Abeka, Horizons and Spelling workout but R&S is the best by far.
  12. I do whatever works for the particular child. DS loves his workbooks and he was bored to death with FLL and WWE so he does more traditional textbooks/workbooks. I think my 4yr old DD though will do great with a more classical apporach to some things.
  13. I am doing great! Miss your posts on GF but glad you found the WTM forums :)
  14. Hi, Susan! Nice to see you here :) I don't know if you remember me from GF? My SN is the same.
  15. I would continue moving at his pace in everything and just scribe for him while working on handwriting seperately from other subjects.
  16. DD is prek and takes about 30 min. She does one abeka phonics lesson and 2-3 pages out of a rod and staff workbook. DS is K age and takes about 2hrs or so. He does 1 lesson of english, 1 lesson of phonics, 1 lesson of math, 3 pgs in science and history plus either a reading comp worksheet or logic puzzle. Spelling is 3-4 days a week.
  17. Nothing changes for us during the summer. We just keep on doing what we are doing and move onto the next level when done with the current.
  18. I would go with Saxon just because MCP only goes to grade 6.
  19. We only took about a week off and yesterday DS was totally out of it. I asked him what sound long U makes and he had no clue, even though he has known what sound it makes since he was 3 yrs old. I even said "Long U says its name. What sound does long U make?" He still had no clue. I finally told him and he said "Oh yea, duh!" LOL
