  1. I think it all depends on your children. If they are strong in geo then I say skip ECC but if they need the foundation, then don't pass skip it. I loved our year in ECC and we learned a lot about other cultures, not just geo, but I say do whatever works for your fam.:)
  2. We are MFW users also and love it. When it comes to boxed curriculum, there are so many choices. Keep your goals in mind.;) Praying you find something that works for your fam. :)
  3. :grouphug: I'm so sorry. I have two 6th graders (twins). One loves to talk and goof around throughout the day so he lags behind also and writes/spells poorly. You could try to find out what actually motivates him which is what I have resorted to each day. It may be bowling and skating with the homeschool group, playing outside, playing computer games, etc. I would find his motivation and use it. Also, has he given you any inclination as to why he's doing this? Any input on the lessons?
  4. Rod and Staff 3 is full of addition/subtration, simple multiplication and division up to the 9s (I believe), some simple fractions and word problems. It's repetitive but in that, I think it lays a great foundation in math.
  5. I'm back reporting. Here's ours. Does anybody else miss Jessica around here? Man, Weekly Reports are not the same without her (the creator). I know that God has led her down another path but I sure do miss her.
  6. Yes, the Basic has 30 worksheets and 3 sentences per day are completed on a worksheet. Supplemental workbooks are available for more practice if need be. We are following the Basic with Winston's Word Works which is also a year long course and set up like the Basic program. You can read more about all of them here. The site's owner is extremely helpful in answering questions about the program if you call her. She's not the author but very knowledgeable of the program, of course. Advance Winston follows Word Works and it can actually be completed in 2 years because of its content. It can also count as a one year High School English credit. Glad you found the answer to your question. Hope this helps also.:)
  7. I haven't used Adventures but we just finished ECC. There aren't any "how to's" as far as drawing or painting but plenty of hands on activities. We are using My Father's World Creation to Greeks this year which includes God and the History of Art (Deluxe Package). It has some how to and history info.
  8. This year, we are studying Greek in My Father's World Creation to Greeks and next year, we will study Latin in My Father's World Rome to Reformation. We dropped formal Latin this year to do this and although this is our first week, my children love it. They think it's really fun so far. I like the way it ties into our study.
  9. No breastfeeding or diapers on my blog but I do have 12 year old twins, a 10 year old and a 3 year old. My oldest is a college freshman but I may mention him from time to time.;)
  10. You've had some wonderful advice here. I'm taking notes myself. Just wanted to give you a :grouphug: and let you know that we have all been there.
  11. We are using God and the History of Art which was included in our MFW CTG package. It spans four years so it's used with all four years of MFW's chronological history.
  12. Rainbow Resource updated their site and it looks great. :001_smile:
  13. Me too! I'm a Wiggly Willie myself or a Wiggly Wilma.:D Still trying to figure out the youngest but I think she's going to be a Competent Carla.
  14. Hi, Lee! I didn't know you were using MFW and it's so good to see you posting. I've peeked in on your blog from time to time. :) We are in our 2nd year of MFW (CTG) and I can't wait to start the early years with my youngest.
  15. We have a few at our local library and my children love them. If I had the money, I would purchase the entire set.
  16. You could study the mistakes together. I would review the rules for capitalization, commas, periods, etc and redo the dictation the next day if she has an understanding.
  17. For my poor spelling, copywork and dictation worked the best. It is not phonics based yet sight based. His problem was that he had always tried to spell words the way that they sounded. We use Spelling Wisdom and it has been the best thing for him to see the word with the "mind's eye" as CM stated. He writes the word, pictures the word in his mind then practices writing the word again within the context of a sentence using real literature. We go over spelling and punctuation rules as we come to significant "twisters" or confusing things such as ie or ei as we approach them. I have ABC's and All Their Tricks to assist with that.
  18. We haven't started our new year yet but we are using Winston Grammar this year and we dropped formal Latin this year in order to do the Greek word study in MFW: Creation to Greeks this year. We will pick up Latin next year with our Rome study. Everything else is the same.
  19. This is why we are using it this year. We will start in 2 weeks.
  20. Last year, the author told me that she was planning to write GWG to gr.8
  21. Rod and Staffs differs in the fact that it has composition. I think GWG has shorter lessons.
  22. There's a WTM blog ring posted around here somewhere but you can find one on my blog to skim.
  23. My children complain about being bored with MUS' repetitiveness but it works so we're not changing. They will just have to suck it up and keep learning. :D
