  1. We don't have a "required" list but I do pull books from the 1000GoodBooks site and our MFW reading.
  2. I agree that I've seen some of the free sites and they only end up being samples but hmschooling has some great thoughts. My budget is even on a budget so I'm always looking for ways to cut cost but I'm afraid of planning my own stuff. LOL Hmschooling, I'm waiting for your book to publish.:D
  3. Here's a link to the book. The description states that it's geared toward grades 3-8. You may get even more help on the MFW forum.
  4. I'm just curious. I have found dozens of free links on my own and via this forum. I'm sure it can be done but just curious about who actually totally homeschools for free? I mean ALL free curriculum. Anyone or do you know anyone who does? How do you or they do it?
  5. It varies.. Five Daily: History Math Bible Grammar Writing Others are added in twice weekly or once a week: Spelling Science Music Art Latin Typing Critical Thinking Exercises
  6. We homeschool year round but our new year will start September 1
  7. I've used Sheldon's some this year and comparing it with the samples of Serl's, I think Sheldon's is a bit more classical as you've read in the MFW post. It includes composition but teaches more grammar. There is a Sheldon's Primary for grades 2-3 and Sheldon's Intermediate for grades 4-6 on google books.
  8. We voted for Winston. We switched from R&S and love it! Works great for us.
  9. Those are two reasons why we like MFW. I believe that the grass is never greener on the other side, it's just a green light shining on brown grass. However, if you closely examine the needs of your family and find something that meets those needs, you can't go wrong.
  10. We do co-op. Our hs group's co-op is regarded as enrichment classes. They provide another means for children to learn, join in some other fun activities and meet other children also. My children have made great friends with some of the children in our co-op. It gives parents an opportunity to socialize with other homeschooling parents also while our children are learning. Our co-op provides classes such as cooking, science labs, health/PE, music theory, drama, financial classes, writing, crafts, etc. We really enjoy it.
  11. We played around with it here last year, 4th and 5th grades but will seriously dive into it this year for 5th and 6th grades. I don't make learning a foreign language into a big deal until 5th to 7th grades anyway.
  12. You are doing a great job, Mom!:grouphug:
  13. We love to use our library's audio books too.:)
  14. Those using My Father's World would actually have to vote for My Father's World and Story of the World since MFW uses SOTW as a spine. ;)
  15. Our state isn't strict so I don't have to keep formal records but I do keep samples of yearly work. I have HST Plus and used it for my highschooler this past year. It made a fantastic transcript, tallied GPA/credits, provided notary signature line and all. I plan to use it mainly for highschool and just collect samples for the lower years.
  16. I love my hs group also but I wish there were more times of fellowship. I love mommy talk. :)
  17. My MFW always arrives via UPS here and it's usually pretty quick. My last order arrived within 3 days! I would definitely call the office if it's been a while. That's unusual for MFW.
