The world is changing so fast. I would do the same thing. I was a the public pool last summer. The pool people asked me to sign something with my address and phone while I was waiting to take a picture of ds coming down the big slide. I said, "Oh you care if my camera gets stolen?" They said, "that too." It took a minute to figure it out, "internet stuff". I didn't want to go there after that. What is the world coming to?

Any scifi fans out there?
BlueGator replied to mrscopterdoc's topic in General Education Discussion Board
DH is a huge SciFi fan. When we were first married we watched all the Second Generation. My huge fav was Diana Troy. We've watched Stargate, loved Jack, Captain O'Neil, I've watched Atlantis a lot. I don't know how you get past the people eaters. When they start to show up in your dreams...... I'm a real visual person, I can't do horror in any form. We've been watching Voyager and Deep Space 9 reruns. This was probably so long ago it's old history for you guys. V: Love Bilona Tores, C. Janeway, and 7 of 9 (who I used to hate). DS9: Love Cap Cisco, used to hate Major Kira - now love, DH loves Quark DS9 Loves Moogie, Quark, Q's brother and Q's nephew that went into Star Fleet. He downloaded the one where the Ferengi save Moogie from the Dominion onto his PSP. -

I thought Monday was really creepy. It wasn't just caffeine and emotion running high and raw, it seemed to be a lot more than that. It sucked the energy out of me and I was only on it for an hour or two. There seemed to be a creepy stampeding herd thing going on and that there was a lot more going on behind the scenes. Maybe it was the energy off of the Saddleback thing on Sunday. I didn't watch it so the whole thing caught me off guard. -

I am a graduate of the PS system. I think it is best not to discuss it any further. -

I was referring to the voting public not the candidates. It is very clear that both candidates are slick, I just don't think they are the best choices to lead America. I don't question the candidates educations, I question their agendas and ability to lead. -

:iagree: In my humble opinion these candidates are a direct result of dumbing down from the PS school systems. I think the dumbing down has trickled up! -
I have a hard time understanding some of your terms. It took me forever to figure out Xian. I thought it was some kind of outerspace term to reference being off the wall. I just figured it out. It's late. Beis HaMikdash - Does this refer to Harrods temple? Yimiyahu Hashem ??? korbanos - This is an offering that is not from an animal, right?

Did you know Elizabeth Edwards homeschools?
BlueGator replied to LNC's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:iagree: I don't really care if someone wants to call themselves a HSer. I don't like the government defining it only to be one on one with a parent or guardian vs a group setting. I generally think that adults who take on the HSing responsibility of educating their children vs bringing them to school have the child's best interest in mind. We as a HS community have an infinite amount of "flavors", styles and ideas. This used to frighten me when I first started HSing because I came from a PS persecutive / ideology. I now see it as a strength. :) -

:iagree: We are all very very different, but at the end of the day it is who decides what will be studied and who is responsible to make sure the child learns. We were in WI for a little while and here is the law in WI: In Wisconsin only a parent or guardian can provide instruction. Definition: A "home-based private educational program" is a program of educational instruction provided to a child by the child’s parent or guardian or by a person designated by the parent or guardian. An instructional program provided to more than one family is not a home-based private educational program. Wis. Stat. Ann. § 115.001(3g). You can not include coop time in your required teaching time. I don't think it is the goverment's business. -

Rosalind, Can I ask some questions: 1. What program / book are they using for their Chinese class? 2. How many vocabulary words do they plan to introduce? -

State notebook for 2nd/3rd grade?
BlueGator replied to 3lilreds in NC's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
http://www.statehistory.net/ This is by Joy Dean. You buy an Abeka "My State Notebook" and the state information that you would like to study. Pictures of the state's flag, bird, flower, ect. and answers for the "My State Notebook" are in the "State History Student Book" for the state you choose. You can buy a teachers' manuel with lessons and instructions to fill out the "My State Notebook". -
How do you know what standard to hold them to?
BlueGator replied to Renee in NC's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I wondered that all the time too. I think as a HS teacher / Mom, you and DH need to determine a baseline that is acceptable. I don't know what that is for everyone, in our house I wanted him to write his name, address, the date and a sentence legibly. He picked up reading on his own and would have read all day if he could. If you can read really well but can not express yourself or the idea in writing, I think that could hold you back in a literature or reading intensive career. -
This summer I found this HS Mom's Art daily art blog. I bought her Art and Music Appreciation Program that coordinates with my 4th year SoTW and is for upper elementary for my 4th grader. I have don't have the art supplies yet. I did purchase the books she suggested on amazon. I bought used ones and it cost about $20. The suppies don't seem like they will cost more than $20. I like the layout and ease of the program. DS likes it also. I signed up for e-mail updates from her blog. It gives me courage to try different things. :) http://harmonyartmom.blogspot.com/
