  1. I guess I'm feeling especially weepy because she's leaving for five months at a German engineering school the first of March. I guess I expected her to do all these things just not so soon-she's just a sophmore. Kinda' torn between being proud of how hard she's working and how fearless she is and just wanting to have my baby back:crying::crying::crying: Just need to type it out-no one around that understands it IRL and darn if I'll cry in front of her!!!
  2. :iagree: I look back on things that really, really stressed me out with dds and realize that they really, really don't matter down the road! So, I'd suggest sit back with a spoon, a jar of Nutella & relax!
  3. I picked up oldest dd this morning for her fall break after a grueling week of midterms. We've all been taking naps on this beautiful fall afternoon while the veggie stew finishes up in the crockpot. I just read the salon article on the general board about a hs girl whose parents hs because they liked to be around her. That's exactly how we feel-it's so nice to have both dds home together again. Hug & kiss your kiddos-I miss mine terribly when they're not home!
  4. I register patrons for cards at our local library. I'm always surprised at the number of people that have to stop and think about how to spell their middle name even adults. Don't worry it's not a hs thing!
  5. Also, Indianapolis, IN might be an option. Something to check into anyway. Housing isn't too bad and traffic is ok. You would need to check on the gymnastics situation. I hope the mixed couple thing wouldn't be an issue, but I am not sure. I REALLY hate that it even has to be a consideration...but don't get me on my soapbox :iagree: Hamilton county sounds perfect for you. NE side of Indy-Carmel, Fisher, Noblesville. Has won all kinds of "best place to raise your family" awards.
  6. :iagree: This is exactly what happened with my dh a couple of years ago!! When your dh is laying passed out on the floor, the last thing you want to worry about is where is the da###n cell! Also, he was hit by a hit/run driver earlier this year in a major city. For some reason his call was repeatedly dropped (never happened before) & he finally called me at home to call the police. I know that second didn't have anything to do with landline, however, after the first episode it made me feel better having the landline. Alos, I register people for cards at our local library which is in a good size city. I repeatedly hear that people keep landlines for emergency only because of similiar situations. Besides, I don't also have my cell on me or it's not fully charged. I always know where the landlines are & don't have to worry about them being charged. I'd rather pay the small price for peace of mind!!
  7. Right now I'm making pizza for dd (18) who was diagnosed with celiac disease 2 years ago. We use Bob's Red Mill pizza crust. While we do have a restaurant that sells gf pizza near by, she's had problems with it. A lot of places list gf items on menus but we've found there's a real problem with cross contamination.
  8. So tell me, how was the bologna cake?!? Inquiring minds what to know:tongue_smilie:
  9. Ok, got ya' all topped!!! Bologna cake?!?!?! Yes, there really is a recipe and I know you're all dyin' to make it:lol: http://www.bellypleasers.com/bologna_cake.html
  10. As someone who use to run group homes, this brought tears to my eyes. What a special young lady!!!!!!
  11. Jann, I've been thinking about your dd this morning. How's she doing today?
  12. Congratulations! I took a look at your blog post... what a wonderful Christian legacy you are leaving your dc. What a wonderful day to celebrate together... happy birthday to your dh and happy anniversary to you both! :iagree: You are so blessed!!
  13. Girls, definately! They're so much easier. Dh agrees, he came from a family of boys and we have 2 teenage dds.
  14. I'm watching Sweet Home Alabama. One of the characters mentions balogna cake-there actually is such a thing & I found a recipe for it if you'd like to have it. Now, come on, doesn't a nice big piece of balogna cake sound like a great way to finish of the day??? :D
  15. They take milk or some other kind of base (soy milk, yogurt, etc) and add some flavoring and toppings and freeze with liquid nitrogen. __________________ My dd did it with a group of kids in an engineering camp this summer at her college. She said the frozen Pepsi was better though.
  16. :grouphug::grouphug: I know this probably won't make you feel better but I handle registrations for our library. I very, very seldom come across someone younger than 30 with what I consider legible let alone pretty handwriting. My dds (as do I) have horrible handwriting, though it is legible, even though we all had pretty calligraphic writing when we were younger.
  17. I just cut it off the cob and freeze. Nice and easy-tastes very fresh & sweet when we do eat it. Is there reason I should blanch it?
  18. http://www.target.com/p/Hamilton-Beach-3-in-1-Hot-Beverage-Center-42115/-/A-10609688 Does anyone have one of these? My dd would like something to heat up single cups of tea. Any recommendations?
  19. I had mine out at 32 only because I'd put off having kiddo as long as I could because I knew I needed surgery first. As said, the surgery was a piece of cake. However, as also said, the recovery was the worse pain I've ever had-coming from a woman who gave birth to a 9#3oz baby with no drugs! (Not by choice, either:glare:) Once I recovered thought I felt better than I had in years and my nasty sore throat issues went away. I wish I hadn't put it off for so long!
  20. What a fantastic start!!! Brag away-you deserve it after all the hard work. Isn't it such a relief when it turns out to be what we hope for them? Purdue is a fantastic school-my youngest dd is planning on going there next year. We're going to have a rivalry here. My oldest has already bought a t-shirt that says "Sisters don't let sisters go to Purdue". She's at Rose-Hulman:tongue_smilie:
  21. I played around on allrecipes and here but I can't find the recipe I'm looking for so I don't think that that's the site. All I remember is that I had a ton of milk and when I put it in a very simple yogurt recipe came up. It was a popular site but I'm not finding it when I google yogurt recipes. It didn't have powdered milk in it and after heating the milk you put it in a cooler and let it set for several hours. It wasn't 365crockpot either. Any ideas!?! Thnaks, MelanieM!!!!
  22. where you type in what you have a lot of and it gives recipes to use the ingredient? If you type in milk, it'll give you recipes for yogurt, ice cream, etc.
