  1. So here's what we've done:9th grade- Abeka Grammar 9, Smarr Introduction to Literature, comp w/a local teacher (who left ps because she got tired of being told to dumb it down-she's tough-my kiddos will never forgive me!)10th- Abeka grammar 10, Smarr Medieval to Early Renaissance Lit, comp w/teacher11th-Smarr Later Renaissance to Romanticism, comp w/teacherI have grades for all the ABeka work and for the portfolios each year. The Smarr lit only has voc quizzes. While we've discussed all the lit, I don't really have any grades for it. Would you just :a)list it as Language Arts 9, 10, etc. on the transcript and then on the couse description page list the materials used. (Would you call it something else??)Or b)list it as Grammar & composition 9, 10, etc. and list the Literature separately and use the voc quiz scores as the grade?I will be so glad when this transcript is done!!!!!!!
  2. yea! I know this one:D ......(Of the valiant)( against the sinister.) Of and Against are both prepositions so these are both prepositional phrases. This would mean that valiant and sinister are functioning as objects of the preposition which are nouns.
  3. Hi Sandy! What a wonderful offer. I just checked my calendar and it's packed that day or we'd be joining you. We're taking my dfil in September after all the schools are back in session. I've always wondered where you are in Indy and what group you're a part of. I'm in Noblesville with 2 dds, one a senior and one a sophmore this year.
  4. Reservations:tongue_smilie: No seriously, thank goodness I'm married to the love of my life who just happens to be a restaurant manager:lol:
  5. We had thought of sign language and I actually took a 5 credit ASL 1 course last year. We're blessed to have a very strong Deaf community in our area and the only college that offers an ASL program taught by Deaf instructors on a Deaf campus in the US (what an immersion experience!!!) . Before taking the class, I didn't realize that it really is a full foreign language with the culture, grammar, and literature. What an amazing class!!! However, that being said, outside of that particular program I've been disappointed in the ASL classes offered at other places. They tend to be hearing instructors teaching signs and not sign language (don't know how to explain it any better) and not people that are connected to the Deaf community. They're not able to take the class I took because of time/money issues at this time. So, we're back to Spanish. We talked about SOS but they decided they didn't like the computer based programs (hence, selling Rosetta Stone for the second time after finally figuring that out)-they would rather use books. They've decided that if they're going to invest the time they want it to be a solid program. Sooooo, they like the looks of the BJU Spanish. Has any one that doesn't have a foreign language background used this? Any suggestions on making it work. This is the one area I feel we're really lacking in. Thanks for all your suggestions and time!!!!!!!
  6. OK, let me start by saying I've purchased (and sold) Rosetta Stone (twice:glare:), Power Glide, Pimsleur and who knows how many other programs. My DDs need a foreign language and we're completely apathetic about it. We've agreed for this year (8th/10th) we just need to have a structured program laid out in daily lessons with the quizzes/tests etc. and easy to follow. We're going with Spanish since we'll be able to find a tutor. I was thinking Abeka, BJU, etc. but it doesn't have to be Christian. Any suggestions?
  7. I'm soooooo confused with all the Speilvogel choices!! My dd will be in 9th grade this fall and wants to do World History. She'd like a change from ABeka and has really not enjoyed Notgrass this year. I picked up a copy of one of the Speilvogel's at the library and she really liked it. But, which do I order? What about tests/teacher guides etc.... :confused
