  1. I'm kind of a conniver, but I'd just "steal" some interesting pieces and keep them in my pocket...lol
  2. Same issue here. I take Magnesium, but what really helps is L-Tryptophan, 1000mg right at bedtime. I still wake up, but I just go right back sleep. It affects how I dream, too. I'm not sure why. It helps w/ anxiety/depression, too.
  3. LOL! My 18yo cannot form a cursive 'K' to save his life. Unfortunately, he has a K in both first and last names. He kind of makes an "l" then goes back and makes the "less than sign" on it. I laugh my butt off every time!
  4. When this happened to me, I acted like I was happy (dh knew I wasn't), then bawled all the way home and demanded he start planning a vacation for our family. (Since the party cost as much as the trip I'd wanted to take that "we can't afford"). Boy, was I ever mad.
  5. Reading the Ralph Moody books would be of similar value, I find that helps me a lot and is inspiring. Know you aren't alone! My husband finally got a new job after 27 years of making less than 30K. I work full time and have for the last 8 years (and part time before that). And NOW, finally (youngest is 10) we are doing better!
  6. We took my 10yo there when he was 3...he loved the characters most of all, and most of the rides were great for his age in MK. We got to the parks each day at 8:30am, then left around 1 and napped/swam, then would go back for dinner or just to leisurely hang out or see fireworks. He remembers nothing now! But he did have a great time. At least you are going when the weather will be wonderful! It was 95 every day for us :)
  7. Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom Le Cellier in Epcot Boma (if you like a big variety of exotic flavors) Coral Reef in Epcot We were not impressed with Tutto Italia. I spent some time looking at menus on allears.net and tried to find places that had dishes that were within our tastes.
  8. Thank you! I will check these out! It is really hard to find anything at consignment in a plus size, sadly!
  9. Anyone know of a good place to find a plus size short homecoming dress (looking at size 18, probably)...are there online places that sell used inventory? I have looked on Ebay and at the following stores: Deb, Torrid, JcPenney, Macy's, and Goodwill so far. We found one at Deb, but it wasn't her exact size and we'll have to order online and take a chance on that, plus their clothes are pretty cheaply made. Any advice welcome!
  10. My ds had 3 warts in one area for the longest time. One day he picked at one and made it bleed, so I applied a bandaid with "boo boo blend" on it. (BBB is fractionated coconut oil with a few drops of tea tree oil and lavender oil in it). He left it on that night and I thought no more about it. About 5 days later, the warts were gone (no re-application!)...I couldn't believe it! All that to say, the tea tree oil works!
  11. My son is 8 and there are only about 3 kids on his team that I would consider even close to "skilled"...There are only 2 who can catch a pop fly, throw with accuracy, and catch a ball that is thrown to them with some speed to it. About 1/2 the team can hit the ball and the ones who can't are not listening to their coaches about swinging level and quickly. So, I think he's fine to start at 8! :)
  12. Costco has great rates, if you are a member. Also, check on hotwire and priceline for better deals.
  13. We didn't have too much problem--we had 2 kids at the time who were 7 and 4 (we took dh's dad out there with us to see the Grand Canyon and ended up staying a night or two in LV, which he also wanted to see). We stayed at the Rio, which is a block or two behind the strip, and it was great--3 pools and no problems. There were a few drunks/weirdos on the street. All in all, it was fun and they probably remember being shocked at the Roman Statures outside Ceasar's Palace more than anything! :)
  14. Kale chips (google, they are so easy to make and surprisingly delicious)...you can do the same technique with broccoli, too!
  15. I like them all...I've even seen ones with people like Susan Lucci and Tori Spelling as the "Scrooge" character and enjoyed them :) If you like musicals, you might like Kelsey Grammer's version. It had its ups and downs, though!
  16. He cuts off the head of Sauron's servant (the mouth of Sauron), and I don't believe there is any speech in the book at this time. I can go check...
  17. Bump! Please pm Parrothead if there is something you need! I didn't want to ask for help last year and did so very reluctantly, but I was so glad I did. :)
  18. Well, I guess all we need are some people in need!
  19. Bumping. I can help with a small gift card or gift. I want to pay it forward and hopefully I can do that in the bigger way next year. I'm helping make Christmas for 2 local families, too, so unfortunately, I don't have a lot extra, but there is some! Wait. I'm going to add this--I posted it to another board I am on a week or two ago: I just wanted to tell everyone a story about our Christmas last year and encourage you to try and help someone else if you can. We don't have a lot of extra this year either, but I am seeing opportunities everywhere where we can help others! Last year, I nearly died from an aortic aneurysm and was in the hospital (in Peoria, then ambulanced up to ICU in Chicago awaiting a heart transplant) for almost a month. Then, was off work for 3 more months recovering at home (doctors are still trying to explain why my heart started beating again on it's own and I didn't end up needing the transplant). My dh drove 4 hours back and forth to Chicago for weeks to be with me and also had much lost time from work. I never saw the final hospital bill, but was told that it approached the $1 million mark. Thank God for insurance! We still had a lot to pay, but it was just a drop in the bucket. Anyway, as Christmas approached, we really had nothing to spend on the kids. I posted on fb about my 15yo wanting a weight machine and a member of our church got ahold of us and gave us a nautilus for him that had been in their garage for years. How awesome! But I still didn't have anything for dd12 and ds7 (the little guy is easy to please and would have been happy with books). I saw on a board I frequent that people were organizing others to help those in need for Christmas and told the lady who heads it up that I just needed a gift for my dd, because there is no way I could get her an equal gift to the one her brother received for free. Well, these ladies matched me with two other families, one of which hooked up with her small group from church, and they sent Cassie everything she needed to redecorate her entire room!! Everyone did just a little and it added up to a WHOLE lot of love and kindness that our family received. Cassie was so thrilled, I can't even put words to it. They even had extra money that they put on a gas card and sent gifts for the boys, even though I had stated I just needed something for my dd. It was an amazing example of God's love. And I just love those of you who are blessing others this year (you know who you are)! Thank you!! So, that is my story of how "Boardies helping Boardies" changed our Christmas last year. I meant to get out thank you notes and pictures to those here who helped, but I ran into technological difficulties and then just kept procastinating. I hope you all know who you are!! I will never forget you!
  20. I'm glad you are tackling this early and not buying into the horrendously damaging "low-fat" model that the U.S. has been pushing on us for years (where you learned to always feel hungry because you ate mostly carbs and no fats). If she eats enough protein and fat, she will feel satisfied for longer periods of time, so that will help in itself. The thing that will make the biggest impact in overall health of the family is giving up wheat (bread/pasta). Even if you can limit the wheat to just one meal a day, it would really help to curb cravings. You might have to overhaul all your meals if your family isn't willing to make a switch to using something in place of pasta, for example. (Like using spaghetti squash for "noodles" in spaghetti, or thinly sliced zucchini instead of lasagna noodles. My family would rather not eat spaghetti or lasagna at all (and have soups or other things instead). Get her involved in picking some recipes to try--there are some really great ones out there.
  21. My dd12 is one day ahead of your dd...she got hers on Monday :) And she is miserable, complaining, and a pain in the butt, if you ask me. We actually took her in the 3rd day because she was whining so much. Dentist adjusted one bracket and told her to suck it up and only use wax if she really needs it for a wire sticking out. Then the hygenist gave her 3 more containers of wax. Go figure. It has gotten a little better each day, so I'm hopeful that by next week she'll have gotten used to them. If not, it's gonna be a long 2 years! I made serious mom points by making potato soup and buying smoothie ingredients. Now she's trying to hit me up for a Wendy's frosty. LOL
  22. Not an attack, but a dissected aorta about a year and a half ago. My cardiologist suspects that I had a heart murmur that went undetected for a long period of time, but I think I had high blood pressure in the last few years (I'm not a doctor-goer unless I am really feeling awful)..well, I wasn't back then, anyway. So...symptoms...I initially said I had none except for breathing trouble (I have asthma). But looking back, I had some serious heart POUNDING during sex or heavy exertion, my asthma revved up more frequently and severely, and I was tired for absolutely no reason (well, the reason was that my heart was leaking, but I didn't know that then). The urgent symptom was chest pain (after sex)...a vertical squeezing sensation in my chest, kind of a dull pressure/pain. I got to the ER at 11pm and was in open heart surgery within a few hours. They put in a mechanical aortic valve eventually (I was in surgery for over 20 hours) and then couldn't get my heart to restart. After several attempts over a few days, they sent me to Chicago for a transplant, but God had other ideas...my heart started beating again on it's own during a routine procedure. Recovery was grueling. It took about 4 months to feel pretty normal again, though it's a new normal. I have a leak where the aortic root was removed, so my EF is in "heart failure" range. Exercise is vital!
  23. Praying here! I am so sorry, can't imagine what she is going through...:(
  24. I would go in September during free dining (if they do that again next year). Cost for a week for a family of 5 at Port Orleans will be just under 3K and that will include food and transportation on Disney buses. It makes the week go so much more smoothly when you are on site and it is nice to not have to worry about food money and be able to have the treat of a sit-down dinner every day.
