  1. I make my boys double-suit as we call it. swim team practice suit under the just-for-fun suit, especially at the water park when going down slides. I've also had one almost lose his suit at the neighborhood pool! Most kids don't have an entire basket of speedo style suits hanging around their house like we do, so I understand the underwear. :D
  2. Kroger doesn't card but Target does. I asked the cashier in Target one time and she said it's because of the aisle the non-alcoholic beer is on. Apparently everything on that aisle is coded the same way. Probably easier for the person inputing data into the system.
  3. pm me with the info I'll need to find her on the scentsy website and she'll have an order credited to her very soon!
  4. The person who got me hooked has stopped being a consultant and I'm needing to reorder. :bigear:
  5. But they're NOT in a group together! OP's son is 9, the child in this scenario is 5. No way they're in the same pack. It was a Cub Scout camp, which although I've not done Boy/Cub Scouts, I'm assuming is a large, multi-pack event. And I can see myself in that situation with my 9yo ds, who has just gone through the screening which shows him having "high probability" of Asperger's, way too much stimulation and not enough down time, having a complete meltdown. And yes, even if the OP's intentions were golden, it would still feel like a slap in the face. I would probably have left in tears, vowing never to return. In fact, I did this with library storytime, years ago.
  6. most Europeans are considered Caucasian because the languages they speak are all derived from the same basic root language, indo-european. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proto-Indo-Europeans (scroll down to the map) shows the spread of early man from the caucasus region into europe, india, and parts of asia. that is why Indians are generally classed as Caucasian.
  7. my MIL knows about snopes.com but will go ahead and forward something because she doesn't have the time to check it out right then. (but she has the time to forward it to about a bajillion people!) then when i send her the snopes link, she'll reply that she had her doubts about it anyway. :001_huh:
  8. at about 6 weeks i was pulling out the fat clothes... you know, not maternity yet but very stretchy and forgiving pants with large roomy shirts. of course when i went in for my first dr appt he did an ultrasound and found #4 and #5! :svengo:
  9. not necessarily. one of the components of ADD that's often overlooked is the ability to HYPERfocus.
  10. how about a modified workbox approach? mine all have one of these hanging pocket charts. http://www.orientaltrading.com/storage-pocket-chart-a2-59_9024.fltr?prodCatId=388884&tabId=3 they just go get the next book which has the pages to be done on a postit note. this is just for things that they can do on their own or with minimal help such as ETC, HWOT, math pages, etc. directly taught subjects are not put there.... they get summoned to the table of learning for those. LOL
  11. she's crazy about horses.... but you live too far away for daily horsey contact. would she be interested in training a dog?
  12. supercharged science http://www.sciencelearningspace.com
  13. Really tired of not fitting in among other homeschoolers. We usually hang with *gasp* public school families! Definitely want to encourage inclusive homeschoolers to come out of hiding here in Houston! I could contribute some $ as well as write about our days of trying to educate those who would rather pick belly lint, aka my sons.
  14. Many times as a kid I was forced to eat veggies only to throw them up. They truly taste nauseating and no amount of "trying" changed that. Now I can at least cook them without the smell making me gag but that's about the only improvement. So, yes, I cater to my kids because I know what it's like from the other side.
  15. hopefully we'll avoid hand surgery, but my son got hit with a baseball during his game yesterday. he was batting and took it right on the thumb. anyway, it popped the nail bed out from under the skin. (yes it was as gross to see as it sounds) ER trip and conscious sedation so they could get it positioned correctly. *shudder*
  16. I have the quick office app on my iPad. I already had it on my android smartphone so was already familiar with it. You can do basic word processing and spreadsheets on it but I usually go home and fix formatting on my laptop or desktop. I use dropbox, one of tho cloud things, to store docs on so I can easily access files from different devices. I may go get the apple pages app to see if it makes the word processing easier. I also have PDF notes app to read and mark up PDF files. I have SOTW highlighted like crazy! The keyboard is funky. I've found that I only use three fingers on each hand and no thumb when using it. I'm getting pretty good at it :tongue_smilie: all in all, not a replacement for a computer, but a nifty mobile device that fits in my purse way easier than a laptop.
  17. to know if the ipad would be a good replacement for a dying laptop, i'd need to know what you were using the laptop for. if it's the main computer in your house, then no, i would NOT recommend an ipad (and i LOVE my ipad). if it will be used mainly for web browsing, checking emails, amusing kids while waiting at various boring events, and reading ebooks, then YES!
  18. two of the peace hill press youtube videos is SWB going through dictation with one of her sons. invaluable for seeing how it's done, by the person who wrote the WWE books. highly recommend viewing that. links are on the general board, in a sticky at the top.
  19. They have more information posted on the website now. SWB is listed as a keynote speaker, topic to be determined, but no workshops. Peace Hill Press is also not listed as an exhibitor. Anyone know if SWB will be adding workshops? or if PHP will be a vendor? side note: AIG will have a presenter there doing a couple workshops, but not Mr. Ham.
  20. yes you will have to get an annulment. really hard, i would say impossible, if you aren't attending a parish. everything i had to submit went through the deacon, then to the diocese. and no, you won't be able to receive communion until after the annulment and your current marriage is convalidated. until then, unless you are willing to live perfectly platonically, you would still be "sinning" because your current marriage would not be recognized. i went through this several years back during my rcia experience. my dh was unable to receive communion until my annulment and our convalidation. process took about 18 months. the fees were reasonable, only a couple hundred if i remember correctly. but the diocese has a fund to help people pay if they cannot afford the fees. hth
  21. talk to amazon about it. you may be surprised. my ds dropped my ipad on his itouch that he got for christmas and broke the screen. broken as in cracks in the glass. my dh took it to the apple store and they replaced it just because it was so new, even though it was NOT covered under the warranty. worth a try! the worst that can happen is they say no and then you have to decide what to buy next! oh, and i love my ipad. it's not the new one but i really like it..... a lot!
  22. we're a vyvanse family here :tongue_smilie: i have noticed my ds being more difficult in the evenings as the medicine wears off. couple things that have helped.... making sure he eats during the day. his appetite is not good but if i remember to have him to eat multiple little snacks during the day, we're much less likely to see the meltdowns. also warm showers or baths really have a soothing effect, even when he goes in screaming "this won't help me calm down".
  23. each boy has a trofast system from ikea with 3 small bins and 3 large bins. socks, underwear, pjs, shorts, and long pants go in those. they decided what went in each bin and are responsible for knowing where their clothes are. each boy has different underwear (whitey tighties, colored briefs, and boxer briefs) and socks so it's easy to sort. each has a tub in the laundry room where i toss their clothes that go in the bins. once a day they put clean clothes away. all shirts are on hangers in the closet. i don't check for neatly folded clothes. the shirts are hung up so they don't get too wrinkled and that's good enough for me. :D
