  1. Glad to hear this about the TH, I just ordered one! :) The poetry book sounds very nice too.
  2. Sounds like my husband when I make something he doesn't care for.
  3. Project Gutenburg also has the Tapper books. I print them out and we put together a book about whatever composer we're studying. I love them!
  4. Taking whatever classes you want and being considered a homeschooler is only for upper grade levels. I think middle school and up. Using FLVS prior to middle school required you to be fully enrolled and you child would be considered a public school student. I seriously considered FLVS for my son as a first grader, but we decided that if we wanted our son to have a PS education, we would just send him to PS. :) Coming from FL to TX, I definitely prefer TX for hs.
  5. Yep, the umbrella school I used in FL (Florida Unschoolers) was not religious and it was free. I had to report attendance once every 12 weeks or so, IIRC. This is a great umbrella school to join, if anyone here is in FL and looking for that option. And, no, you do not have to be an unschooler to join. :)
  6. I was surprised to get all the way to page 3 before I saw TX.:) Yep, TX is very hs friendly. We were in FL before and had to register with a private umbrella school to save on any hassle with the state. I am loving hs in TX. We even belong to an all hs cub scout group! I love it!
  7. Yes, I am quoting myself. Wasn't this episode the reason why Chef (Isaac Hayes) quit the show? Because he was a Scientologist too? Yep. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4804334.stm Ok, it wasn't that specific episode, but a different one about Scientology in general. I always found it ironic that he left considering that South Park makes fun of everything and anything.
  8. Good question. I am thinking of purchasing some ST DVDs at the recommendation of a signing mom in my cub scout pack. I'm not sure how to use them though. :)
  9. I just logged into my account and see that I am actually still active until November. Thank you to the poster that pointed out the automatic renewal. I turned that off. :)
  10. Looking through the samples now, it is definitely below what we're currently working on. I wonder if it is on par with public school standards.
  11. Yes, I printed everything out. It is a lot of printing! I think I only actually printed out about 2 months worth at a time, we didn't use it any longer than that.
  12. We have about 3-4 chapters left in Apples. If you'd like to try it out, you can have it. PM me if you're interested. We should be finished by the end of next week.
  13. I actually paid full price for this almost a year ago before I started reading about CM and then TWTM. The curriculum does seem pretty decent and this deal is good. Complete Curriculum has received a good review on Cathy Duffy's site.
  14. I have a Blackberry Playbook, which I love. I sold my Nook Color (with a rooted SD card) and bought the Playbook. It's fast and fun. I watch movies on it, play games, watch videos, read, mail, browse, etc. It is wi-fi only, but it's nice!
  15. Yep, this is what I was trying to say. :) I was planning on doing this, but then just decided to go with the workbook. We then read the full story of whatever literature is featured in WWE. Thankfully some are short stories. :tongue_smilie:
  16. Comes up quick! We're just finishing up Apples here. I'm pretty sure we'll get through Butterflies and Cats at least before we're done for the year (first grade). I remember not learning multiplication tables until I was in 5th grade. Our teacher had us writing them over and over again. I actually have fond memories of that and it sure did stick!
  17. When I first looked at WWE, I bought the PDF version of The Complete Writer. I figured I would use what text they had in there, then do my own text for the other weeks. After looking though it some more, I changed my mind and bought Writing with Ease Workbook 1. I found the WWE1 on eBay for a good deal, but it comes in PDF too. I would think that you could use The Complete Writer (if that's what you have) and the student pages, but I personally prefer buying just the workbooks. I haven't even looked at TCW since I purchased the workbook. It took up a lot of paper and ink printing it out too! Now I wish I had just gone with the workbook instead of trying to "save money" buying just TCW, because I ended up just spending more money. heh :) If you choose to go with just the student pages, you'll have to figure out what passage is being discussed on the student pages. I would imagine it's not too hard, but for $12 more or so you can have everything laid out for you in the workbook and it's definitely worth it in my opinion. HTH some! I do enjoy the program and love the workbook. I will be buying the workbook for WWE2 when that time rolls around. :) Plus, if you happen to be schooling more than one, you'll have the core text with the workbook and just have to buy student pages at a later date, or even copy the student pages that come with the workbook so it can be used multiple times.
  18. Ok, I admit my instant queue on Netflix is almost 150 programs long. There is still a lot of good stuff on Netflix, I am just upset they took off all the Scooby Doo. :) My son loves to watch Dinosaur Train. He sits there with his dinosaur books so he can reference whichever dinosaur they happen to be talking about. We've been doing pre-history, so it's working out well.
  19. I'm in TX, no CO, but it's up over 100 here too. :( Our a/c is acting up too. Guys came to fix it (apt complex), said they put freon in, but it's still not cooling the way it should.
  20. Yeah, they seem to not have as much as they used to. We are considering switching to Amazon Prime and their streaming. What Amazon doesn't stream for free is usually available for rental at an extra cost. I don't think Blockbuster has streaming at all. Or, at least it didn't the last time I checked.
