  1. Sorry - never mind. I Googled a totally different way & up came the answers!
  2. Hope someone here knows. Approx. how much does the legal paperwork cost in most adoptions? I read a post on FB today that has me pondering that question. I tried to Google it and could not find an answer. TIA
  3. Ooops - I saw "German Pancake" and knew that "pancakes" are big here for Fasching. Apparently I didn't know that Pfannkuchen were the donuts I ate all day ;) Thanks for letting me know before I looked like a bigger :ack2: P.S. The buttermilk syrup was awesome, but beware - you will need a larger pot than you think to cook it, as it bubbles up impossibly high!
  4. I agree - I just ran upstairs to check DD's and I saw two strips of ads total in the entire magazine. She has received these magazines for at least three years now & consistently scores 2-3 grades ahead in science on her standardized tests (even though I can shamefully say that I have actually taught science 2-3 weeks total). A lot of that has to do with the magazine, and the interest it sparks in her leads her to learn more on her own (I have purchased three different science curricula over the years, so she has plenty to choose from) ;) I highly recommend this magazine!
  5. My goodness! I found a recipe for German Pancakes on AllRecipes, and we decided to make them for Faschingsdienstag / Fat Tuesday. They were the best I have ever had and we immediately decided that we'd never make them any other way again ;) If you are looking for a traditional Fasching meal, give these a try! HTH someone!
  6. We are celebrating Faschingsdienstag here in Germany and have had our Krapfen (donuts). We'll also eat Deutsch Pfannkuchen (German pancakes) for dinner. Enjoy!!!
  7. My DH, bless his heart, doesn't "get it" at all. I once - in the heat of a "discussion" - threatened to rent an office space and take the kids there every day to school. I figured then he might "get it". But - to be honest and fair, I have never understood 1/10 of his job and believe that he probably deserves more credit from me as well!
  8. I just read this this morning in a bible study. Not sure if it'll be helpful or not! The truly happy are those who carefully study God's perfect law that makes people free, and they continue to study it. They do not forget what they heard, but they obey what God's teaching says. Those who do this will be made happy. Max Lucado. Life Lessons: Book of John (Inspirational Bible Study) (Kindle Locations 50-51). Kindle Edition. I've never really thought about it before, because I am a generally pessimistic person ;) But, I admittedly didn't read the Bible much until a year or so ago, even though I grew up in the church. And now that I think about it - honestly just today - I see that I have been much, much happier in this past six months or so than an any other time in my life. So, I personally would start with the Bible. Everything after that might just be "extras" :)
  9. I took this from another thread I posted it on. It really does work and you don't have to count a thing!
  10. Ours is up. First one since last April :tongue_smilie:
  11. I could have written your post - down to the "within two pounds" comment :D I have tried WW (successfully in '05), Atkins, and South Beach (both unsuccessful b/c I gave in to the awful cravings I had in the 1st week each time). Have you heard about the NoS diet? From the website: There are just three rules and one exception: No Snacks No Sweets No Seconds Except (sometimes) on days that start with "S" That's it. I just re-started it yesterday - it is the one thing that I can stick to. I can eat one plate and not go back for seconds. I pay more attention to the amount of food that is going on my plate and would be willing to bet I put less, even though I am not going to have seconds. I love sweets, but knowing that I can eat all I want on the weekends helps. Again - overall - I doubt that I am eating as much as before NoS. No snacking is a bit more difficult. Between breakfast & lunch is OK. But lunchtime to dinnertime, and after the girls go to bed is harder. I have found that sparkling water really fills me up. Moreso than regular tap water. I usually have either that, or a stick of gum to help me through those times, but from past experience it gets better quickly. HTH - good luck to you!
  12. Yes. This. You asked in a few sentences what took me paragraphs ;) That is what I would love to find.
  13. I am coming in so late to this thread, but just wanted to say that I have never heard it explained this way and it made so. much. sense. Thank you!
  14. Again, ty all so very much for taking the time to post. The knowledge to be found on these boards (in so may areas) is astounding to me. To those who wrote about my RCIA class - it has been brought to the attention of the Priest, but nothing has changed. I wonder if it’s because we are a military parish - I know that it is a lot for one priest to handle. Again, I am not bashing the RCIA leader - I am just not sure that he makes the best teacher for a group of people just starting their journey. No, thank you. :001_rolleyes: TY for the links! The more I learn, the more I realize I don’t know. But, I will admit that I have allowed myself to become overwhelmed to the point that I stopped reading much of anything. I am always amazed at the amount of info you know, Mouse. Oh, and I have checked out some of the conversion stories, but know that there are also ones of Catholic-Protestant and that just confuses me more! Parrot and Mouse, tradition is not a sticking point for me at all - yea, something I am sure about :D I can absolutely see how it fits in with the Bible. TY. I guess that I am looking for 100% absolute “proof†one way or another. In this whole process, I seem to have forgotten that up until this point I have had a great deal of faith - I just need to find it again. Your post was amazingly helpful - ty so much for taking the time to write. I am still not sure if I can join the Church this Easter. We learned that in the early days of the Church, it was common for Catechumens to take years studying before they joined. I certainly need to study more and also determine my husband’s thoughts on the whole subject. At this point I am not wholly sure that I can join a church without the rest of my family. Of course then I think I should and have faith that they will follow :seeya: Good point! OK - now I am intrigued. It’s on my short-list and after reading all of the other posts on it, I have a feeling it will be downloaded instead of waiting for the book! I think that this is where I am really struggling right now. And as I said, as much as I believe in the Catholic Church being the place for me, I do not think that I will be eternally punished if I don’t join. It is very hard for me to think about joining when my husband does not want to join himself - nor does he want the girls to attend at this point. He is fully supportive of me, but I’m just not sure how “right†it is for me to do that. Why do I always forget that??? Thanks for the reminder!
  15. Oh my goodness! I just woke up and saw all of the posts! TY all so much for taking the time to write. I will get back to these ASAP. It's 7:40 here and if I don't get my children up and going right now it's gonna' be a looong day!
  16. Ooops - I am sorry if I said it wrong. In my RCIA class we are always taking about praying "to" saints, but I totally understand that it is not like praying "to" God. It is asking them to pray for us just like we would ask a friend here on earth to do so. :) ETA: sadly our RCIA instructor is not very approachable. He knows an amazing amount of information (to the point of overload - one recent class had 30-some pages of typed notes), but really doesn't take to questioning well. The class is honestly him giving a lecture for an hour and all of us sitting there, furiously taking notes.
  17. I hope you all can stand another Protestant / Catholic post. All of the posts on the subject this past year or so have been fascinating to me. So much so that I started RCIA last fall. As I posted recently, I am starting to have some serious questions and I feel like the more questions I have, the less I know. I am not even sure that I am joining/can join the Church at the Easter Vigil, which distresses me further... I won't go into every single question that I have ;) but I do have a "for instance": I grew up (Presbyterian and United Methodist) hearing/believing that in order to be forgiven, all I had to do was ask for forgiveness from God and I would be forgiven. Catholics believe that confessing to a priest is the way it was intended to be. I have read the verses that Catholics use to support that, and it makes sense to me. So, why did I learn it another way? And where can I find the Protestant statements explaining and supporting it? Other questions I have relate to Purgatory, praying to saints, etc. I never believed in Purgatory or prayed to saints as a Protestant, and I want to know why that is not the norm. Where can I find explanations/supporting statements for the Protestant "side"? How strange that I grew up Protestant yet have no idea about any of this... I am not doubting what I was taught as a Protestant at all - I just want to know where to go to find the "why"s of it. Is this even making any sense? Am I looking for some sort of apologetics, and if so should it be from my particular denomination? I wish I had someone to talk to - someone well-versed in Protestant theology, maybe. Sometimes I feel like I need to take a converting to Protestantism class to learn why it is that I believe the way I do (did - do - did)...:tongue_smilie: I'm just not sure that I can join the Catholic Church until I really know both viewpoints, yet I am scared that I am so bent own finding the "right" church, that I will never find it... Anyone know where I should start??? ETA: I just emailed the pastor at the United Methodist church where I grew up. He is fairly new, and my parents just told me that he graduated from a Catholic university and has brought many "Catholic-like" traditions to our church. They like him very much and think he would be more than willing to talk with me!
  18. My 10yo DD still pays with hers - and actually was a bit jealous yesterday when DD#2 got another set for her birthday! :tongue_smilie:
  19. Good grief, no! ;) I'm sorry if that's how you took it. I was simply thinking of all of the times I have asked a question that I could have found an answer more quickly by using Search...
  20. People really should use it! I was about to post a question about Wii exercise videos and thought I'd search past posts first. I got so many great ideas that I have already ordered two videos! That's all ;)
  21. I've never used Quicken, but do use YNAB (You Need a Budget) on my iMac and love it. I'm pretty sure it's in the App Store and may even have a trial. HTH!
