  1. I am only up to this point in the thread and see that there are several more pages to read. I hope this doesn't get out of hand, because I think this is a valid question. It's one that I am quite sure I will be asked soon enough, as I am currently in RCIA and am all but certain that I plan to join the Church at the Easter Vigil. Hoping this will be able to continue in a civilized manner :lurk5:
  2. Could you tell me how you use the libraries? I have all of my digital photos from late 2000 - present in one library. Also, if you don't mind, could you tell me how you use Events and Albums in iPhoto. Thanks so much!
  3. Mac users: do you use iPhoto or Picasa for your photo management? I used to use Picasa, moved to iPhoto, and am now considering going back to Picasa :tongue_smilie: What a mess I have created! My jumbled thoughts as to why I am moving back (maybe...) to Picasa: I like the way Picasa keeps photos in the folders that I already have (had...) them set up in. IMO this makes them easier to find when I am in a situation that I can't drag & drop. I like it that Picasa doesn't make copies of each photo as it's edited, which uses less space on my hd. I do not like it that I can't sync Picasa photos to my iPad as easily as I can with iPhoto (certain albums, events, etc.) I love iPhoto's slideshows! I think iPhoto edits look better than Picasa's (although from Googling it seems that most people say the opposite) What do you use, and why??? TIA for your replies!
  4. Nope, no cantaloupe or antibiotics. He tried the Metamucil wafers for awhile but hasn't taken any fiber in several weeks. I'll see if I can get him to at least do the Benefiber. The girls & I do that every day. Ahhh - OK. Thanks!
  5. Wouldn't either of these show up in blood work or urine tests? I honestly don't know, but would think they should...
  6. OK - I need help, and know that someone here will be able to point me in the right direction. DH has had diarrhea - often accompanied by severe stomach cramps for 5-6 weeks now, and I am really starting to worry. When this all started, we were in the US - visiting family. He actually woke me early one morning and had me take him to the hospital. I can not tell you how astounding that was, as he won't see a doctor unless he is in an insane amount of pain (to give you an idea, the only time in almost 16 years of marriage that he has ever had me take him to the hospital, he had severe a case of eColi and almost died). At the hospital, they ran blood & urine tests and said nothing looked abnormal and sent us home. Two or three days later he went back to the hospital - same pains. This hospital also did a CAT scan, I believe it's called, ran the same tests, and again found nothing. We are now back in Germany, and it is almost one month later. he is still having the same problems, although the pain is not as severe (or he has gotten used to it). He can tolerate a great deal of pain... WHAT on earth could this be? I Googled chronic diarrhea, and several things came up. FWIW, he has diabetes type 2 and high blood pressure. His diet is not ideal (whose is?), but it has not changed significantly in all of the years that I have known him.
  7. Thanks for this. DH & I talked some more tonight & we're not going to tell her just yet. I might get a book on St. Nicholas - here in Germany they celebrate der Nikolaustag (St. Nicholas Day), and I think the girls would really enjoy the story. That's my worst fear. I almost wish that we hadn't made such a big deal out of Santa (and all the others!). :iagree: I love all holidays. I had to LOL at the bolded
  8. Can't wait to read the replies. DH & I were just talking about this last night. We have a 10yo that still believes and is going to be devastated when we tell her (and we plan to soon, because she defends this belief to all of her friends and we don't want her to be embarrassed later on). Oh how I wish this wasn't an issue... OK - now have read through the replies. I am so happy that those of you with children who once believed and now know didn't have any meltdowns. I firmly believe that this is going to devastate DD#1 - and in turn DD#2. Both girls, especially #1 - have such incredible trust in DH & me. They are both very "big" on not lying and always telling the truth. And they know enough to know that you can lie by omission as well as commission. So my huge fear is that - although I have never come right out and said that Santa / Elf on the Shelf / Tooth Fairy / etc, are not real - I have let them believe it and defend it to their friends for years and years. Please tell me they will not forever be scarred...
  9. Congrats on your amazing loss. Continued luck with NoS!!!
  10. Just throwing this out there in case anyone else is just beginning with WW. I finally re-joined (I lost about 30 lbs. in '05, but gained it back) and am excited to get started on this journey. This past summer was a turning point for me. We spent three months back in the US, and I was astonished to see all of the overweight people! Of course, I had seen it all before, as I have always lived in the US, but the last two years here in Germany I have rarely seen an overweight person. Anyhow, I am tired of wearing the size I am in and tired of feeling unattractive. I am tired of huffing and puffing as I go up and down the stairs in our house (three floors that we live on, plus two more to travel to the laundry and garage). I am simply tired... So, those of you who do the NoS Diet, I am using those principles along with WW. I think that until I loose a fair amount of weight (-48 lbs. will put me at the highest end of normal), I am going to use WW Points Plus to help me reign in my calories/portions. Hope to hear from fellow WW & NoS dieters!
  11. I voted "other", because DH asked me first and then my father! We met on a blind date while he was home on leave in Aug. '95. DH lived in HI and & in NC. By Dec. he knew that he wanted to marry me and had planned to ask me on New Year's Eve - after he had had the chance to meet my parents and ask my Dad. But - when I went to pick him up in D.C. in mid-Dec., he was so anxious to get engaged and simply couldn't wait  So, he asked me - I said "YES!", and it was about a week later when he finally asked my father! It was then that we told him that we were already engaged - along with the whole story. It was the best Christmas season ever!!!
  12. I am sorry if this is a hijack, but could you tell me if the Saturday service is called Mass or not? I just started RCIA and I have been calling the Sat. service Mass, but noticed you called it Vigil. Is there a difference, or do they both mean the same thing? Thanks so much!
  13. I love Pinterest, but haven't spent much time on there. My boards are here.
  14. Love the iDog! My oldest was using hers this morning to listen to music while she ate breakfast
  15. My kids have had iPods since they were about 3 and 5. We bought 1st gen. Nanos off eBay. They treated them very well and used them all of the time. Last Christmas, they each got a 5th gen. Nano and love them! They have a lot of music on them, several video podcast, kid movies - when we were flying from Germany to the US, and the SOTW audio tapes - which they listen to constantly! I've also put their AWANA CDs and Prima Latina lessons on them from time to time. Go for it!
  16. Thanks! I did decide to go ahead with 4 - already entered it into HST ;)
  17. Wondering what the knitters (& crocheters!) are making for Christmas gifts this year. I haven't started a thing, but would like to make several small gifts for some close friends / neighbors. Here in Germany, people like to hang straw stars and other shapes in their windows. I was thinking about making some sort of ornaments that could be hung in a window or possibly something for the kitchen. I'm not opposed to dishcloths, but usually make several sets for Mother's Day each year (9-12 total cloths) and get a bit tired of making those. ;) Hope to get some good ideas!
  18. Bumping to see if I get any more replies :lurk5:
  19. That's the way I am leaning...but wanted to ask here first!
  20. For reasons that have nothing to do with my DD, she only completed the 1st 8 lessons in R&S 4 last year (she has completed R&S 2-3, however). We will be starting our school year on Mon. and I wonder if I should go through R&S 4 with her, or just scrap it and move on to R&S 5. FWIW she does well in grammar, but doesn't especially like it ;). Thoughts?
  21. I just use iBooks for my PDFs. Will have to look into Goodreader!
  22. Wow! How nice to see all the replies! Our class has seven people and one teacher. He was very informative and met with me an hour before the class last night to help me to catch up. Last night's topic was the Magisterium - so interesting!
  23. I just attended my first RCIA class last night (it was actually the 4th class, but we have been out of town)! I would love to know if anyone else is going through the same thing at the same time. :001_smile:
  24. Not much help but be sure to search this board for the topic. It has come up many times before (I know because I was looking at those posts just the other day - I think we are going to try Nordic Naturals). Good luck!
