  1. Thank you for posting the Scholastic sale! When I saw what books were recommended I put them on a list for the next dollar days & thought I'd have to wait until fall!
  2. No one. I'll gripe to my sister & maybe one good friend about minor annoyances, but not about bigger things. I've had too many instances where someone has told me stuff about her husband & then I could never look at the husband the same way again. I don't think it was generally the person's intent, but it's what has happened.
  3. I don't know that I'd expect them, but I wouldn't be surprised to find raisins, walnuts, pecans, or pineapple tidbits in a carrot cake.
  4. Singapore MPH 5/6 Latin Prep Math Mammoth Life of Fred Singapore CWP Ambleside Killgallon
  5. Oh, I'm sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you were saying that you could no longer search JUST the title or JUST the message body. You can still do that, just not with a boolean search.
  6. :iagree: This must be one of those things that varies from program to program b/c ours starts teaching to read music as soon as the student moves out of the Pre-Twinkle class.
  7. The program my kids are in has the students learn to read notes as well. They have classes which specifically teach reading until they begin orchestra at around age 6/7.
  8. I used through Level E for dd and then started Math Mammoth in 5th. I am glad we did it that way b/c it worked very, very well for her. However, for ds I switched to Math Mammoth in 3rd. He's much more math intuitive than dd & I wanted something that required a bit less of me. I will use the RightStart method of teaching long division though b/c I really like how it's done.
  9. Thank you again Ruth. Based on your descriptions of the levels dd would be ready for Level 2 or maybe Level 3. I should at least try it out for a few months before spending $$ on something else.
  10. Thank you Jennifer! My main reason for looking at AG is that it is so efficient. However, it seems like one of those programs that either works really well for a student or not at all. Dd retained *nothing* from R&S so maybe AG would work well for her. I guess I could print off samples and have her work through them to get an idea of whether it would be a good fit.
  11. Thank you Ruth! I am trying to figure out where I would start if we used KISS. Is it correct that there are several levels and then within in each level the student does the work for the grade level they're in? So, for instance my 6th grader would do the suggestions for 6th grade in Level One. Then if she didn't get to Level Four until 7th she'd just shift to the work listed for 7th grade at that level. Is that right? I'd love to figure out KISS since it's free!
  12. I'm still trying to decide on grammar for my 6th grader for next year & I *think* I'm down to either Analytical Grammar or KISS. Has anyone used both of these? If so, would you post about which worked better for your family and why?
  13. We started out the year with First Form. *I* really liked it, but dd didn't at all. I rarely change what I use for her, but I ended up switching to Latin Prep after several months. She's still not a fan of Latin, but LP is working better.
  14. No, I wanted 4. However, dh has the number he always envisioned. :)
  15. Here's one person's commentary on why she does not support HSLDA.
  16. These are very thought provoking posts about poverty within the church: A Frowning Providence, Accidental Burdens, & Accidental Burdens 2. The comments sections are excellent as well.
  17. I think I may have accidentally reported a post on the kilt thread. As I was clicking on something else the page moved & the click actually hit the !. I'm sorry!
