  1. ugh. I didn't know that one. Is it in adults too? I'm not going to tell her this. She's already upset and miserable. She has no other symptoms so here's hoping. Hopefully, she'll have better luck with the doctors tomorrow.
  2. My situation is different. I was babysitting grandkids before Covid and I have continued to babysit. DD works in research and needs to be at the bench. SIL worked from home, but he goes into the office occasionally. I have seen my other granddaughter (1yr old) in another state. Her parents are very cautious. Granddaughter has feeding issues and was on a feeding tube up until about 3 mos. ago. We were not asked to wear masks. She has been in quarantine and not been out, except for drs. appts. *at all* the first time she saw us. She is afraid of us. They just spent 3 days with us on the familyVaca last week with all our kids. No masks in the house. She was very timid and fearful. Of course, there are a lot of us when we're together so that is overwhelming anyway. I held her once and she wasn't happy. I held her one more time and she erupted. I would encourage you to spent time with grandbaby and your daughter -esp. since she has PPD. She needs supportive family around.
  3. That is an interesting theory. I don't think she had any seafood. I did just talk with her about the hives theory. All the bumps from the photo I shared earlier are bigger and puffier. They're about the size of a dime now. Mostly on her legs and arms, some on her neck. None on her back or torso. They have set some kind of bed-bug traps because she's most worried about that possibility. I encouraged her to get some Zyrtec, because I remember that that is best for skin allergies. She's going to try to go to a doctor tomorrow. She just moved to the state so she doesn't have a PCP. She's one of my anxious kids so she said she spent most of today crying and trying not to be freaked out by Dr.Google.
  4. no hot tub. The bites are continuing to erupt. She has more today than yesterday. I think they started before she left. She does remember getting bit by something when she was in the water. That's why she thinks it's sea lice... but I think those are bigger bugs. They have checked the bed at home thoroughly and haven't seen any evidence of bedbugs at the apartment.
  5. We're all home. In fact, G went home on Weds. because of work. T and the rest of us went home on Saturday.
  6. I agree. that was a weird one. But, the dr. told her that she has personally had trouble with it and that's what it looked like to her (over the video screen).
  7. Update: T seems fine. He has no other bites. G is worse today. They're up her arms, neck, and back. She had a tele-med appt. yesterday and the dr. thought it was ringworm. She is miserable and itchy. She took benadryl last night to help her sleep. She called me in tears this morning. She still thinks it's sand-fleas. I encouraged her to take a cool shower and to put topical stuff on the bites. She doesn't have tea-tree oil but the dr. did prescribe some topical steroids and anti-fungal. She's cleaned all her sheets, vacuumed the mattress, and floor as well as all her clothes. Her boyfriend doesn't have any bites. What says the hive:
  8. no - mid-Atlantic area. One reason I want to rule out bedbugs is because I will need to notify the rental owner if they are. Of course, now I'm itching and itching LOL.
  9. I kind of doubt its mosquito bites. My one granddaughter is allergic to them and seems to be a mosquito magnet. She doesn't have any bites at all. But, spider is definitely a possibility. It's just so odd that they are the only ones to get it even though they were sleeping in rooms that had been occupied by other people. No- we are not sure they got them in bed. It could be the ocean or at the beach. It's just so strange that they are the only ones who have it.
  10. BTW, were all looking at photos online and getting thoroughly grossed out... but can't figure out what it could be. G does remember getting bit while in the water. My oldest son had an experience with bedbugs in college, but he cant' tell from the photos.
  11. We were away at a rental all this past week. Two of my kids (G&T) have bites on their extremeties. They itch. Some are big and some are little (normal?) bites. But, they are the only ones and here is the sleeping situations. Day 1-2 They both slept in the room with my two oldest grandchildren. Then my oldest son and his family left early and everyone moved around. My one daughter and her new husband moved to oldest son's vacated room. G & T moved into the newlywed's vacated room. Grandkids stayed put and added another grandchild to the room.. Everyone spent some time in the water including G's boyfriend (sleeping elsewhere). But, only G & T have these bites. I'll try to get the photos in. T's bites are first:
  12. I'm not sure that is entirely correct. My udnerstanding is that it is *less* likely they are spreading it. Do we know he spread it to someone else? Has anyone said how he got it? He also may be presymptomatic...only time will tell.
  13. We're at a beach rental with our family, so it's a definite yes. We go to the beach and stay away from other people... although there's always someone walking by if you're at the water's edge. The law is we have to wear a mask if we're on the boardwalk, but we have opted to stay away from it anyway. We've brought almost all our food and have had insta-Cart deliver as well. There's too many of us to go to a restaurant even in non-covid times, so we've always taken a night to fix dinner or done carry-out. Otherwise, we're staying together and playing games at the house. Esp. today since the hurricane just blew through. We did have one son and his family leave yesterday . They felt the beach was too much and they didn't like people walking by them, even though we sent them photos of the beach. There's something about leaving within 24hrs of possible exposure that they're following. The rest of us were fine with the beach (including people involved with no-covid health and medical research) yesterday. If we have to go into a store for any reason we'd wear a mask.
  14. you should dive in. She's more like Jane Austen than Charlotte Bronte though. Light and fun and silly.
  15. Congratulations!! My daughter got married 2 weeks ago in our backyard. It was a very sweet (and short) civil ceremony with only us and her siblings. They plan to have the church service, reception, and big honeymoon next year.
  16. There is a reserved portion of the Eucharist that is kept behind for the sick or home bound. I've never heard it called the presanctified. But the liturgy during Lent is called "The Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts". So it probably is technically called presanctified.
  17. I wish our parish would offer outside liturgy too, but the heat and humidity is just unbearable right now. My daughter's parish offers it only when the temp and dew-point are below a certain level. One year our air conditioning went out when it was above 95* and the humidity was the usual awful. It was pretty difficult to get through the service and I wasn't wearing vestments. I think in areas where it doesn't get much above 85* and the humidity is low it would probably be a great options for churches, but those of us south of the mason-dixon line are melting even at 9AM.
  18. That is true. In many former soviet bloc countries people take communion about once a year, if that often. It has only become quite regular in the West thanks to the writings of some EO authors such as Fr. Alexandr Schmemann. In some parishes it is the practice to have confession before communion - so people take communion less frequently. But, just because it became the norm in the 18th century doesn't mean it is ideal. St. John Chrysostom and other Church Fathers said quite a bit about the importance of frequent communion. I prefer to think about the monastics who went into the wilderness (St. Anthony the Great, St. Mary of Egypt, etc). They did not receive communion for years but their spiritual life was beautiful. Sadly, I am no St. Mary of Egypt. I think I need it more frequently for "the healing of body and soul." 🙂
  19. I just realized that I may have misunderstood you. I am speaking only for EO parishes but we cannot do a service with just a priest. We do not have private liturgies. It is against Canon law. So any Eucharistic has to have people there. Even if it were one other person, there needs to be the fellowship of believers present. The priest cannot perform the service alone. So, we'd still have to have a service (with people) before the Eucharist could be distributed. Hope this clarifies. Someone mentioned Presanctified. EO are not permitted to perform Presanctified except during Great Lent.
  20. definitely that is an option. Also, the priest will regularly take part of the Eucharist that has been set aside to those who are sick or home/hospital-bound. That would be no different.
