My favorite recent cookbook is Vegan Richa's Indian Kitchen and my favorite classic cookbook is Fannie Farmer. I mostly use the internet these days, though. This week: I finally hit page 400 in my Danish book, Odinsbarn. It has taken me f-o-r-e-v-e-r to get this far. For fun, I am reading Kringle this week. By the time I heard about it on these boards, my kids were too old for it. I, of course, am not too old for it lol. I finished A Very Russian Christmas, and have started On Marx: Revolutionary and Utopian by Alan Ryan. On Marx is an excerpt from Ryan's two-volume On Politics: A History of Political Thought from Herodotus to the Present. If I like On Marx, I think I will get Ryan's On Politics. I stocked up on my favorite Oxford notebooks before I moved from Europe. They are A5 size, 90 gram graph paper, 36 pages. I puffy heart love 90 gram paper, and everything else feels like a compromise lol. My bullet journal is utilitarian, and I only use black ink. I do, however, have super nice handwriting so it has that going for it if I slow down enough to be mindful of my handwriting.

I am also dropping the little touches that do not get noticed. Especially agonizing over stocking stuffers. Nope. I dropped Christmas cards when we moved overseas, and now that we are back I see no need to start up again. I like sending snail mail during the year but cannot get behind Christmas cards any longer.

I love you guys because you always take me back after my unaccountable spells. Drumroll: I am 95% DONE moving. I have crossed so many major hurdles and can finally see the finish line. Our semester has suffered a tad because of the move, but it has not been a disaster. We have this week and next week to work, and then we will take two weeks off. I hope to squeeze in some Chemistry over the break, but that is probably wishful thinking. I am beyond excited about the upcoming holidays. We have not had all three boys under one roof since May 2015, and we have not all spent Christmas together since 2013. And we are going to all be together for two weeks!!!!!!!! I am giddy at the prospect :)

After the holidays, we are going to do a two-week lab intensive for chemistry, and I am scared :thumbdown: Scared of the chemical smells (I am sensitive to strong smells and have asthma) Scared of skin exposure (I have ultra-sensitive skin) These are my two big fears. Beyond that, I am also scared of using flame... but I think I can get beyond that one LOL. I own the Illustrated Guide to Home Chemistry Experiments, Novare's Chemistry Experiments for High School at Home, and a microchem kit. Obviously I have plenty of labs to pick from...any suggestions for this fraidy cat? (Cost is a factor, but not the main one for this thread. I already own some basic lab supplies that we used in middle school and for bio so I will not be purchasing from scratch.)

I am intimidated by this pot and its user manual. There, I said it. All of you are cooking with yours, and all I have done is take it out of the box. Sigh.

The Novare lab handbook is excellent. You can use it with any science - we used it for Bio last year. If think Novare will email you a sample chapter if you contact customer service. We are using Novare Chemistry for Accelerated Students, and I had promised the hive a review. I haven't forgotten, but our international move has kicked my butt and delayed many of my good intentions :) I have the Quality Science Labs microchem kit, but I want to do some macro labs second semester. I am a sissy about chem labs, and need to figure out which ones don't scare me. :glare:

OK, hooray I am finally in possession of my IP. To amazon's credit, the customer service rep made good on their shipping delay.

I called amazon and they (1) canceled my order to NC and (2) are shipping a replacement to MD. So, fingers crossed, I will have my IP tomorrow.

It makes very durable divider tabs! Just fold it over and let it stick to itself.

The last USPS update was the 25th. Grr! I signed up for text message updates, but I think I am sunk on this one.

I use it to make tab dividers in my many notebooks. It takes Sharpie ink beautifully.

Now, mine also says delivery by Wednesday and I am truly vexed. I sent it to NC (where I am now), but I am leaving this morning for MD. And I won't be back in NC until after Christmas :( I could delay leaving until Tuesday, but not more than that. Ugh. Maybe I will get lucky and it will show up this morning.

My IP was supposed to arrive by 8 p.m. today, and it is now past 9 p.m. Boo on that :(

Each year, Black Friday (yes, the day after the USA Thanksgiving) gets bigger and bigger in Denmark.

It has been a very bookish week for me. My books have finally arrived from Denmark (for those who do not know, we moved back to the USA from Denmark in October). Even more exciting, I now have the boxes of books that have been in storage for FIVE YEARS. :hurray: I finished Tolstoy's The Cossacks and am staying with the Russians for now. I picked up this new collection the other day: A Very Russian Christmas The Greatest Russian Holiday Stories of All Time. I have read 2/3 of the stories, and I love the book. Most of the stories are ten pages or less; two are longer. A Lifeless Animal by Teffi is like a traumatic version of the Velveteen Rabbit. :scared:

Thanks, y'all. I just ordered the 7 in 1 through the amazon sale. I needed a slow cooker and wanted a rice cooker. I've never considered pressure cooking - it always sounded too scary!

My son uses a family friend for his advisor. We do not live near her, but we usually see her at least twice per year. Mostly, he emails her to update her periodically.

My son (10th grade) has been working on the award. I doubt he will get the gold before college app season, but the program overall is a good fit for him. He tends to be out of sync on the four areas, which is perhaps normal (?) Right now, going from memory, I think he has enough Voluntary Service hours for the Bronze Medal, almost enough Personal Development for the Silver Medal, and is sorely lacking in the Physical Fitness hours. But we were trying to catch PE credit hours, and you can't double dip. He just started Fencing, and now that PE hours are in good shape, the Fencing will be towards the Congressional Award. He submitted paperwork for the Bronze Certificate last March, and has not worked on an Expedition /Exploration since then. We just moved half way across the world, and need to find new volunteer positions. So maybe now is a good time to do some personal development or an exploration. This is how it has worked for us; an ebb and flow across the four areas as circumstances change. HTH. I like hearing about what people are doing for the award!

Well, hooray all is now right again in my WTM world. I have a reply box again on my laptop.

We are out of temporary housing, but still do not have our furniture yet. Basically, we are camping in our new place. The internet is working so the online classes can continue without a hitch. Fortunately, we outsourced a lot this year. But I am feeling behind in Chemistry and I think we have to start doing Chem six days per week. And do Chem over holiday breaks :(
