  1. I don't usually post. But, I understand that feeling. My dh is still in North Dakota. He got a better job. He works crazy shifts, like 26 hours. Then he comes home to his lonely little bedroom. My van is broken down. I can't get a new one right now. There are some things I need done to it that he could do for cheap and probably get it going till tax time. But, he isn't here. Someways it is either vomit or cry. I am so frustrated. He doesn't want a car loan because he wants us to move there. We can't unless we can get a mortgage. I am a fixer. I want to fix it all. I can't do anything else. Just running this household is enough. And, last night when he was tired and talking to me on the phone, I just wanted to make him a snack or make sure he was taking his vitamins.
  2. I don't know if he changed his driver's license yet and he does not vote. That is a good question. I usually use Turbotax online. Do any of you know if I can do this with them or will it be too complicated.
  3. My husband lives and works in another state? I live with the kids and do not work.
  4. I would love a Yukon. My mom has a Yukon Denali XL and it is wonderful to drive. It is super roomy, too. Maybe in the future. We are in the middle of a huge transition. A car loan is not feasible at the moment. But, by next year I can move up to a bit better of a vehicle again. I appreciate everyone's input.
  5. My 1989 Ford Aerostar is falling apart. It is dead outside as we speak. It needs at least an alternator. I am looking for used vehicle recommendations if any wants to share. Not planning on having anymore children in the next year or two if at all. If you have a lemon, I would love to do know that as well. I might go with another mini-van. Fire away!
  6. No, it is the directions on the box. It tells you to make a marinade with soy sauce and then baste it with the stuff. But, it turns it all brown and salty. Then you bake it and marinade it and it turns into a salty dry wheat roast. Blech. It needs to cook in the crockpot with gravy. I roll it around a few times for good measure. I was worried it would fall apart. But, I never had problems with that.
  7. I need to try these. I always see positive remarks on the internet! I used to like chicken fried steak and was hoping maybe it had that same kind of comfort feeling. I can make a mean vegan white gravy. So, if I had something flat to pour it on beside a biscuit, I would be happy.
  8. I think it is gluten based but not soy free. I love the Field Roast, too. I know a local deli slices it. I have secretly wished I could get a large deli size field roast and slice it on one of the big slicers when I want.
  9. My kids love the thing. I like to do stuffed acorn squash as my centerpiece but they think that is silly. I don't normally do thanksgiving elsewhere. But, this is my sister's first chance to host and I will probably be moving a few states away in the Spring. So, I am going to make peace and take my tofurkey. On a side note...does anyone else have the Safeway ad on the radio? It says something like the best guest at Thanksgiving is the Turkey at the center of your table. Poor Turkey. Last time I checked a dead guest isn't the best guest.
  10. I just cook it till dinner. It doesn't really have to cook. Just heat up. Sorry if that isn't helpful. I do thaw mine in the fridge.
  11. I wanted to share my tofurkey making experience. Of course, a vegetarian or vegan thanksgiving does not require the making of a tofurkey. But, my children like it. So, I wanted to share. DO NOT make the marinade/basting liquid they have on the box. It will make your tofurkey dark and salty. Instead, put it in the crockpot and cover with the gravy that comes with it or make your own in the crockpot and then put the tofurkey in there. You can keep some broth nearby it case it gets a little thick. We make mushroom gravy here because my kids are wild about mushrooms. I have a small crockpot that is one tofurkey size. But, you should be able to get two in a larger one. Tofurkey freezes wonderfully. So, if you find a few extra please freeze for the rest of the year. I used to be able to find them easily. Now I have had to raincheck and beg for them locally. Have a happy Thanksgiving. Give thanks for your friends and family.
  12. I am putting a tofurkey and mushroom gravy in my crockpot and heading over to my sister's new house.
  13. We have six years between our third and fourth child. It was strange to have a baby again. I felt like a new mother sometimes. And, since I could just run out with a baby and leave the older one's at home, people thought she was my first. It was pretty funny after three kids. I got all new baby stuff. And, I really had forgotten about tending to a babies needs. Congratulations!!
  14. How is your relationship with her? I think death of anyone close brings out a host of feelings and is a catalyst for healing in most people. You got to wonder about people who are not affected by the death of someone close to them. Some people close up even more and that is surely not healthy. I think you should answer her questions with a question. He isn't well. You have talked to your children about it. How are you? How is the realization of his coming to pass affecting you?
  15. My older boys sat down and worked on a school work plan for the week. Goodness they are all talking abuot their need for direction...I promise I did not laugh. Prayers must really work. Then we dug out a small desk that was in our giant storage closet. Then we pulled out boxes to go through because we need to be ready to move in the Spring. Then I peeked around the corner and saw the fake Christmas tree. And, I decided to pull it out. My mom always put up a fake christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. I thought she was nuts most years. I have never been a holiday person. But, it just sounds so good right now. So, watch out world. I am going to Christmas it up. I might buy some red striped tights or something.
  16. Just got the fake christmas tree out of storage even thought I live in the Pacific Northwest. Real trees are such a pain.

    1. SunnyDays

      SunnyDays

We've always had a fake... allergies here, a real tree would not work!!

    2. In the Rain

      In the Rain

real trees can harbor wasp nests. eek!

  17. I would totally fill up a few kindles if I could access internet and electricity regularly. We have friends who went to sea on a boat when kindle was just coming out. They bought a few readers and filled them up. When they had electricity they could, also, download from the library in the city the left. Most library systems do this now.
  18. Our son got the diagnosis PDD-NOS most likely Aspergers. He is doing much better this year. He will be 16 in January. We are giving him extra time to finish High School. When he found out that was "allowed", he started doing more work :tongue_smilie: He needs a daily plan. His hygiene is getting better. He needs a lot of hand holding still. He needs help talking through his emotions. Forunately, I am a lot like him. I can usually understand why he is acting the way he is. His handwriting is horrible. He is finally willing to write. He is working on his handwriting and Writing with Skill. I have some hope for the kid. He has insomnia and will sneak in late at night to give me hugs. He doesn't really have friends which is difficult. All the kids at our church really like him. But, he has a lot of anxiety about going places. But, he just beams when he socializes. The youth at our church is a really great bunch. They are a safe group of people for him to spend time with.
  19. I would order stuff and pick it up when I got there :tongue_smilie: I have five kids. Can they each get their own carry on? I would take some blank journals and lined paper. Ferby Colored pencils watercolor paints and two brushes Math Curriculum because I am no good at teaching that. A couple of those grade level workbooks from Costco. Kid size scissors. Story of the World on audio or iphone or something I would miss the library. If there was no access, I would really hope I could order from Sonlight or Rainbow. Not for the IG's but just for packs of books.
  20. Is he is exercising at all? Is he eating a lot of fat? Is he eating salads prior to lunch and dinner?
  21. And don't use tanning beds. I grew up with girls that tanned every single day. I am so glad I didn't get sucked into that. May this be the last of it for you.
  22. Do you like green smoothies? In the winter I thaw any frozen fruit and use room temp water. My new favorite is mango (I use frozen cubed from Costco or Trader Joes), kale (usually lacinato), banana and covere with water. I like to eat chili over salad sort of like a taco salad. How about making a veggie soup and eating a bowl before dinner each night? I like to use butternut squash. You can use frozen. But, it cooks down in the broth and really gives it some extra nutrition without feeling to much like squash. I like to make apple crisp with cubes of butternut squash. The squash needs to be cooked a bit first.
  23. Just curious to see how it is going. I figured my oldest would do CC this upcoming year. But, we might be moving to a place where that isn't as plausible for him. He likes schedules and plans and not me looking over his shoulder. He learns by reading and hates hands on projects.
  24. How about adding a twin to your bed and moving it to a wall. Bigger bed, more room.
