  1. I tried talking to my oldest. He is turning 16 next month. He asked me not to tell him these things. He was very upset by it. I opened my mouth before I thought about it. He has been such an adult lately and we sit and talk a lot. I didn't think about how painful it would be. I actually very seldom watch the news anymore. I actually did a quick search online because I saw mention of earthquakes in Cali and we have family there. Then I clicked on the link for the story. Then I checked out the news. I used to watch the news and even enjoyed reading the paper. At some point, I think around my third child I got really sensitive to it. My husband actually "doesn't let me" watch the news. He just hates seeing how painful it is for me.

Hey, you know those people next door? They HOMESCHOOL. I heard their mom is weird. I dare you to peek in her window and see what they do in there. I bet she treats her kids like slaves and makes them eat Kale chips.
  3. I was going to say..... over an open fire :p
  4. Crazy, sexy, cancer is a pretty kick ass cancer site. She has several books and a DVD.
  5. It is like eating two chocolate and one cherry tootsie roll at the same time. I like it :)
  6. It is totally on the high chair. I was waiting for my little ones to fall asleep before I crack it open. I will try and check in later.
  7. I use Flickr. You have to pay for it to. You can post from Flickr though which is nice.
  8. So, that is where all the rum has gone.

  10. We need to work on our credit now that my dh has a good job. I like the look of myfico. Thoughts or recommendations?
  11. I just changed mine because it was so easy :D I wanted it to match my website.
  12. About once a month I come up with some great idea on how to reorganize my life ;)

  13. I haven't read the books. But, from what I have read, it just seems like another word for unit studies. At least, the way I approached them. Your homeschool journey is going to flow and change and morph. Don't wait for next year. Just provide the lead for your kids into a project. If you have ever utilized SOTW Activity Guides, that is a great way to start. Pick out a couple of things and see what your kids do with them.
  14. My oldest has a difficult time getting through his day. We talked some more and figured out what he needs. It seems so obvious now :glare: Is there a planner which has the daily schedule with hours listed down the left sheet and the Daily assignments with those listed down the right sheet or vise versa? It seems like planners are either one or the other or they have two separate sections. It may sound dumb, but he will not shift back and forth between sections. If not, I will make him something. I just don't have a printer currently because ALL THE NON-BREATHING THINGS are rapidly dying around me. It would be so nice if I could just order it.
  15. My SIL developed a problem with Mold. It was awful at one point. Coughing for no reason. I Second, third or whatever the recommendation to Check on allergies if the pertussis comes back negative.
  16. I am pushing for a college degree, as well. He has OCD with his hands. I cannot imagine him having to work with his hands or do physical labor. He needs to be able to do a desk job.
  17. Yes, we have tried so many programs with all my kids. He has tried at least 10. Currently, we are using Explode the Code and OPGTTR. Which I think is hilarious because they are the last two programs I tried because i had used ETC and PP with an older child. I was sure they wouldnt work. But, we found OPGTTR at the library sale for $2 and it actually works. I was given the ETC book and he loves it.
  18. Can you tell me more about exercises? I read one of the books on dyslexia that I think talked about it. But, I had to return it to the library. I think it was disconnected kids. Exercise makes a huge difference for him. We just started to going back to the gym when our van fell apart. Hopefully we will have a new vehicle and can start back up in January. I have a rocking board on his wishlist.
  19. I have a late reader and he has had therapy and all kinds of appointments with special eye and ear specialists. I am not looking for suggestions for those things. I am looking for practical things that really helped your child. Things you do at home. Practical things like using a particular program or doing jumping jack breaks during lessons or playing with play dough or copy work.
  20. it was on Target, too. I am so bummed. I would have loved to snatch that up.
  21. I used to read in my free time. There is cable here and I have gotten used to watching TV. I find TV overwhelming and anxiety inducing. I want to start reading again and I want to join the challenge in the new year. I will probably read a few things to keep up with my High Schooler and middle schooler. They are reading The hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. What were your favorites from this past year? What books do you want to read this year?
  22. We loved our Border Collie. He was the white speckled kind, not the kind on Babe. So, he did get hair everywhere, but you can always trim the hair off a few times a year. He was funny and quirky. Border Collies don't usually nip like a cattle dog might. But, they do herd constantly. Like when you walk around the do half circles around you and always want to be on the side or the back. But, they can learn lots of stuff. They are super social so they can be funny in crowds. He was an amazing swimmer. He really loved kids, too.
