  1. We finally found the palindromes. The Play Along says there are two more, but we found a third one the author probably didn't intend. ☺
  2. Well, I wanted to read the chapter first and then do the play alongs and website activities throughout the week, but thanks to amazon we ended up reading the chapter last. Amazon took their good ol' time sending me the book. We did the activities from the website throughout the week which are similar to the play alongs. I think any way you do it is good. I think I will most likely read the chapter first and then do all the rest during the week. For those who don't have the book you could certainly follow along from the website. The author generously gives a lot of information. You can't help but love this book. 😊
  3. I read "Anne of Green Gables" by Lucy M. Montgomery. I remember this was a favorite when I was in high school. My 10yo read "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett and then we all watched the movie together. ☺
  4. Tales of Ancient Egypt by Roger Lancelyn Green Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt by Elizabeth Payne
  5. I forgot to mention how awesome the Play Alongs are. We're still trying to find the two palindromes spoken by Lulu and Elizabeth. This book is really great for any age because there is something for everyone. I love it when you find a book like this that shows people how fun math can be. :)
  6. So...how did your week go? We just got the book yesterday and finally got to read chapter one - we loved it! I really loved all the literary references and great vocabulary. The story is very enchanting. You follow Lulu and Elizabeth on their adventure as they solve math puzzles to unlock secrets. I really appreciate the two appendices in the back listing all the books referenced and I also liked the font size - no squinting necessary.
  7. I never would have found this blog/book if it hadn't been for Denise's awesome blog Let's Play Math!!! I always go there when I want to know what's happening in math. I love your site, Denise!!! :001_wub: Thanks for bringing Lilac Mohr's book and blog to my attention. And let's not forget Denise's awesome books!! We heart math :)
  8. Learners in Bloom Blog Lilac Mohr, author of Math and Magic in Wonderland, wrote an adventure of two little girls solving puzzles. She has designed a math book club/circle to go along with her book. Today is the beginning of the first week - it ends in October. Her girls are seven, but the topics are appropriate for any age. I plan to participate with my 10yo and 12yo. I just wanted to share this awesome resource with everyone. :)
  9. Nim's Island by Wendy Orr - Nim calls it island schooling Charlie Goes to School by Ree Drummond from Pioneer Woman - a picture book series about her dog ☺
  10. It's for free for the summer right now at homeschoolbuyerscoop.com if you want to test it out.
  11. I read "Digging Dinosaurs" by John Horner. I love learning about dinosaurs and his books are always packed with great details. My 10yo read "The Tempest A Shakespeare Story" by Andrew Matthews. ☺
  12. The US edition had tons of review. I think the reason why some choose the Standards is because the instructor's guide is better. I have the 3A/3B guides for the US edition and I think they're a waste of money - I only paid 50 cents each though. The guides tell you which page is what and what to do next and maybe throw in a game here and there. I still prefer the US edition. Definitely look at the CWP, those books are great.
  13. How much time does it take your kids to complete one book?
  14. I used to read for an hour and a half every night, but now it's around thirty minutes at bedtime. For those who mentioned The Hobbit, how long did you spend with it?
  15. Are the Living Math lessons from LivingMath.net?
  16. I read "King Lear" by Shakespeare - it was so much better than I remember from high school. My 10yo read "Among the Meadow People" by Clara Dillingham Pierson; we just discovered this series and love it. ☺
  17. Engineering is Elementary has lots of free projects on their site.
  18. We use colored computer paper - the old kind that you'd have to feed into the printer on tabs. My mom had a package of it in five colors. The pages are all attached and I thought it would make a perfect timeline.
  19. How the Universe Works on the Sci channel talks about these topics. Also, if your library has Hoopla you can check out their Great Courses titles and watch them from your computer.
  20. Have you looked at Meet the Masters? Homeschool buyers coop is offering some of it for free for the summer.
  21. What an awesome sale. I bought both two years ago. So happy.ðŸ˜
  22. Thanks for posting this. These are not free in case anyone is wondering.
  23. i read "A Kid for Two Farthings" by Wolf Mankowitz - my free book for participating in our library's summer reading program. My 10yo read "Twelfth Night for Kids" by Lois Burdett. :001_smile:
