  4. I read "Project-Based Homeschooling" by Lori McWilliam Pickett and my 10yo read "Grumbles from the Town" by Jane Yolen. 🎉🎆😀 Happy New Year!!
  5. Here's a really fun book about Roman gladiators - "Julius Zebra: Rumble with the Romans" by Gary Northfield. I just read this book. It's an easy read that tells the journey of a zebra captured by Roman soldiers in Africa and whisked away to Rome to become a gladiator. Julius becomes friends with the other caprured animals as they train for a battle for the birthday bash for King Hadrian. The pages are in Roman numerals and there's a glossary at the end of terms used related to gladiators and Latin. I got this book at the library for fun - I love reading children's books 😠and reading them to my kids or recommending they read it. The book is a good sized chapter book with pen drawings here and there. It has a bit of Roman gladiator history, but mostly it's fun and your son won't be intimidated to read it.
  6. I read a silly, fun book "Julius Zebra: Rumble with the Romans!" by Gary Northfield and my 10yo read lots of Christmas picture books. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. ☺
  7. I read "Moon Over High Street" by Natalie Babbitt and my 10yo read "Emily Prickleback's Clever Idea" by Daisy Meadows. :)
  8. I read "The Aviary" by Kathleen O'Dell. I got it from the Scholastic Book Fair in our area. I met her at a writer's conference a while ago and was happy to see her name so I grabbed the book. My 10yo read "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" again - she really likes that book. 😊
  9. Our area always has it again in the spring.
  10. What marbel said We're going today, but it's kinda the same old stuff after a while and the choices are not very good - just meh. Once in a while we find something interesting. We only go because it's nearby. I kind of forgot about until I saw this post.
  11. I read "The Mysterious Benedict Society" by Trenton Lee Stewart and my 10yo read "Cranberry Thanksgiving" by Harry Devlin. ☺
  12. I read "Blackberry Pie Murder" by Joanne Fluke and my 10yo read "Pilgrim Cat" by Carol Peacock. ☺

  14. Which ones have you used? Or anyone has used? I was thinking of getting one on cyber Monday since Brave Writer is having a sale.
  15. What's your favorite store or name brand for cherries? I love cherry pie, but I've only ever used ones from our sour cherry tree when I was growing up. Do you buy frozen ones or in a jar? ðŸ’
  16. I think boys might like this book. My 12yo had to read it last year and she didn't like it at all - I read it as well. My 12yo was tired of reading the same theme that seems to appear in a lot of historical chapter books with a boy as the main character - a young boy who would not be able to survive without help from another person in the story. It just seemed too politically correct only because every book my 12yo gets assigned has the exact same theme. I would prefer to see more diversity in these type of books and not repetition of how feeble minded young boys might be. This book itself is not so bad on the surface, but it's the underlying message that irkes me.
  17. "The Adventures of a South Pole Pig" by Chris Kurtz. "A Nest for Celeste" and"Brambleheart" by Henry Cole.
  18. I read "Spindle's End" by Robin McKinley and my 10yo read "The Three Musketeers: A Junior Novelization" by Shannon Penney. :)
  19. I agree with SKL - no responsibility for the child. It gets harder each year for kids with more and more work and then to come home to eager mom with more stuff. I wish you luck. We're all in the same boat with having so many plans and then scaling way back. You have to pick and choose. I wouldn't necessarily hold something off until summer, she might be sick of all things school. There's always weekends here and there. ☺
  20. I read "Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin" by Liesl Shurtliff and my 10yo read "Sophie Flufftail's Brave Plan" by Daisy Meadows. ☺
  21. You have to go to Learners in Bloom blog and read about Lilac Mohr's book called "Math and Magic in Wonderland" - she has a whole math club on her blog. The two main characters are twin girls who go on a math adventure that has many challenges/puzzles within and at the end of each chapter. This book is great for boys and girls of any ages.
  22. Thanks for the link. I just put it on hold.
  23. Tessellations are for kids who love the puzzle aspect of math. Definitely for more of a mathy kid that really enjoys the complexity and beauty of math.
