  1. Most people I know of who do not agree with Halloween do not agree with dressing up at all, even as a baked potato. It is considered celebrating Halloween.
  2. Yeah, Dh asked me my thoughts on it and I said I would rather not think about it too much if he is just going to override me anyway.
  3. Well, I have had the talk about how a sperm and egg meet up when men and women sleep together... I just don't want DD to know how the organs actually fit together, because I knew about it all too soon. :( I don't think kids should know how it actually works... and I have been meaning to discuss this particular thing. This thread seems like a good topic to bring it up on.
  4. :iagree: You also might want to consider the angst it may cause the children angst if their dad gives them guilt over doing anything.
  5. Here's my story: We were at Disney World last year so we were automatically wearing customes and getting candy during their Halloween festivities a couple of weeks before the actual date. While cleaining out closets upstairs we found their candy bags from Disney World and they of course got all excited, so I am trying to figure out what to do this year, since I really wasn't planning to do anything, except maybe go to the zoo or museum when they are expecting the kids to wear customes. I found this website because the kids can't have food dyes: http://www.naturalcandystore.com/category/natural-lollipops and plan to order them some candy. I was also going to make the pumpkin family, but I consider that more of a seasonal thing... My neighbor called me and said that the kids were all making plans to go trick or treating and then my DH told my daughter I would make her a costume. I never agreed to any of it and was very surprised. So anyway, that is what got me thinking about it. This is a fun thread!
  6. I picked up a magazine last year that has a pumpkin snowman family project. Maybe you'll have enough for that.
  7. Are you really hot/uncomfortable when you wear them?
  8. I make sure I provide plenty of books on the topic, right in front of their faces for an extended time and I make them read at least a couple of pages sometimes because you never know if you don't try it. My daughter has no interest in American History outside of the AG books, so she is now happily working through a workbook and when she is done with that she will go back to Ancient History with pictures and projects and rabbit trails... because that is her area. Doesn't TWTM talk about "specializing"?
  9. When I was unschooling we had about 30 books (like the ones used by SOTW AG) books relating to the history or science topic in our house at all times. She didn't have time to forget
  10. Creation science, preferably on the extinction of woolly mammoths. My hubby takes an interest in my obsessions. He's a keeper. :001_wub:
  11. My ten year old daughter is the same height and weight I was at 14.
  12. hmmm.... does this coincide with formula feeding becoming popular or what? For these changes to occur... what exactly changed in the American diet when? My diet as a kid wasn't any different from my kids, for example... my grandpa ate lard and cornbread for breakfast and a whole chicken with coke and icecream for a snack... another example.
  13. I don't know about that... I am more comfortable with a male doctor... I don't know much about the LLL. I was just thinking that it would all sort out if he was made a leader and people decided if they wanted to be in his group or not?
  14. Well, I don't like the first part either... Yes, I try to teach my kids about God, but I know that hearing Bible stories and memorizing scriptures does not a Christian make. ;) :iagree:The last 3 sentences looked like a slam against atheists. The whole list seemed like a slam period.
  15. #5 I am going to ruin my kids for LIFE by fixing them the food they want? Really? I don't know any adults who don't eat what they choose. #3 I should put my spouses needs above my kids? Spouses don't have NEEDS that they cannot fulfill themselves. Kids DO. ‎#7 is about balance. You CAN teach your child to be an abused doormat. You want to know how many times I have seen it done? Probably not. ‎#4 is it really in my child's best interest to ignore them more than I already do? Probably not. They seem to do much better with more time with their parents. #9 and 10 are worded in over the top ridiculous ways and the bolded part does not match up with the rest of what the author said on the subject. I bet the author of the article doesn't really want non-christians to share their faith, does she?
  16. :grouphug:Similar situation here. The 5 year old picks on the sensitive autistic 10 year old... but the 10 year old will freak out over the smallest things. She is the boy who cried wolf. It leaves me and the 5 year old confused. He never knows what is too far because with her everything is too far. I never know when to taker her seriously... Both of them have times they are legitimately out of control. It is hard. I am glad for this thread.
  17. Yes, I hate that. I also hate it when people over-use bold and caps. All of these seem so rude, but especially if used all together in one email or post.
