  1. I missed "Is a public school teacher allowed to read from the Bible?" and duh, I know it's in K12s The Human Odyssey.
  2. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/archive/index.php/t-372544.html I got three wrong.
  3. I added a tag then realized it was a misuse of tags. blasphemy The Holy Ghost IS GOD. (Acts 5) Hallelujah praises HIS HOLY NAME and I don't find much of this funny.
  4. I am sorry my side-track took away from your main point. Not just husbands, yes, sister that is a good point for Jesus also said, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."
  5. I didn't need an explanation from you, but some people get a different meaning from that verse, so I wanted to add clarity. Saint Paul said, "I can do all things through Christ" Phil 4:13 He also said, "For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice." Romans 7:15-19
  6. Thank you all for the help. I have been sincerely trying to figure this out.
  7. I could never do that. Thanks be to God for His grace! Galatians 3, Romans 7
  8. Yes, now that you mention it... how does wearing a costume and giving candy to our neighbors have anything to do with worshiping false gods or celebrating evil? And if my children are taught "Halloween means wearing a costume and eating candy" and they continue that tradition, and they don't do research on the topic... then how are they worshiping false gods or celebrating evil?
  9. Romans 14 Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. 2 For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. 5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. 10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.[c] 11 For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.†12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way. 14 I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. 15 Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died. 16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. ... 20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense. 21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak. 22 Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. 23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin. 15 We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
  10. :iagree: Good point. Now I find THIS the most offensive of all. (not you Mergath, the fact that someone actually had a party named that.) :D yep
  11. You know I was about to cite examples of God deferring to humans, but Jesus didn't do that, did He? The examples I thought of are in the OT. Yes it is. And this understanding has changed my marriage in dramatic ways. Now I have both Jesus and my husband to comfort me and offer me help and strength, and I naturally want to love and praise and respect them, and do what I can to fill my role to the best of my abilities.
  12. You are very gracious.

  13. LOL in my marriage it is the opposite. DH is much more resilient and productive than me.
  14. Okay here is what I read her from the "What Lutherans Believe" brochure: And she said, "Because He loves us, like we love our guinea pigs, because they are stupid and helpless." I said, "Yep!" :D I was already teaching my children the way the Lutheran church teaches... They need that assurance of love and grace... not scare tactics and/or rules to follow.
  15. Interesting thought. I wonder how many men actually take the lead in spiritual matters? It seems to me that most of the time the women are the ones who are drawn deeper into God and take their family with them.
  16. The Baptist church I was baptized at had several pastors, and so did my neighbor's church that I visited. I don't know about the Lutheran church, but there were two men with robes on. :D
