Dd20 is dealing with this. She is about to spend a semester abroad. She is paying for it totally by herself with a combination of money she earned working and her first student loan. She has worked since she was 15, and the last two semesters worked two part time jobs to save up for this trip. We are immensely proud of her, but she has definitely gotten negative comments from friends like “must be nice for mommy and daddy to pay for you” etc. Through smart decisions and hard work, she has paid for every bit of her schooling herself and it hurts her when people say things like that. Especially when she knows a lot of her friends are getting help from their parents. No one has said anything to dh or me about it, but I know his brother and sister are wondering how this is getting paid for.

Did it come cut into pieces already? Or did you have to cut it up? We always get the heart from the processor, but give it to the dogs for a treat and it’s so unwieldy

I would love to do something like spend the day hiking in hocking hills or something, but hiking is out. All of the things I’ve thought of would not sparkle as much for him now, like sight seeing etc. and early April is a crap shoot for weather

This year is our 25th and dh’s 50th. We are planning a short family trip to gatlinburg for his birthday, but kind of at a loss for our anniversary. We don’t have money or vacation time to travel anywhere but maybe an over night sort of locally? How did you celebrate your 25th?

She is just transitioning through Auckland on to Australia, so looks like she will be applying for the transit visa where she can’t leave the airport. It looks on the map though that there are lots of restaurants and shops

Woah, thank you for this information. Did not even know this existed. We are new to international travel so permission for layovers was not even on our radar. You just saved dd20 a lot of trouble I think. When they booked her flight, it didn’t say anything about this. We thought it would be like dd22 who had a layover in London and went out and spent the day 🤦‍♀️

I love seven layer salad. I’ve only made it twice, but I eat it whenever it is brought to something. I might make a small version to try that dressing! I also like the salad dh’s aunt makes that has taco meat, Doritos and Catalina dressing. I’ve made it a couple of times, but it always tastes better when she makes it.

The one I made had iceberg lettuce cheese hard boiled eggs peas tomatoes green onions bacon and dressing but I am open to new ideas! I told him I would make one tomorrow as I didn’t have all the stuff I just thought it was weird since the way he said it sounded like I made it all the time 😆

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fill it? Or is she pretty much stuck at the airport? Thanks!

Dh just looked at me out of the literal blue and said “Do you know what we haven’t had in a long time? Seven layer salad.” You all, I have made seven layer salad precisely two times in my life, and they were the first and second times he had it. 🤔

Sil sent dh and bil an update just now. Fil is still feeling dizzy off and on throughout the day but especially in the evening/at night. She also called and left a message with both names she was given and put an ad on care.com! Maybe I scared her? Not sure why the change, but very grateful for it! Getting someone in regularly is better than nothing!

I looked at that yesterday and when reading it it felt like a lengthy process. Something 60-90 days after notification they will have to take a drivers test? And they only guarantee anonymity to the doctor, not anyone else. It says you must be prepared to sign a release statement knowing your name will be shared. Unless I didn’t understand what I was reading correctly.
