  1. Rules of respect.... call if you'll be home past my bedtime... or if your dinner plans change, as for grilling, I only defrost for the number of people expected. Keep your room relatively clean. Be nice to your brother. No smoking/illegal drugs but that's never been an issue. Alcohol in moderation is fine when one turns 21, as long as one is not driving. Ds pays part of his insurance, lunches, spending money and gas.
  2. It's not rude to serve burgers and dogs.... the point was changing the menu because one thinks its a waste to cook a filet well done. And finding out the menu changed because of it. Just seems a little odd.
  3. I LOVE the peninsula!!! Very similar shape to my kitchen but your drawers and peninsula are now on my wish list!!! Thanks for sharing.
  4. You are lucky to have more options. We have limited options in our grocery stores, and have to drive 45 minutes to get to Whole Foods.
  5. Where in Ga will you be driving from? We used to live in Peachtree City. Panama City Beach is an easy drive from that part of Georgia. So is Hilton Head. If the mountains are your thing, Dahlonaga and Helen have things to do in addition to the hiking and beautiful outdoors.
  6. Gouda is a favorite for snacking here... my husband will smoke it in the smoker, for an exceptionally nice taste. He does the same with sharp cheddar.
  7. Was it a gift to you? or to the family? If it's to me, it is spent on something extra I'd like to have. If it's to the family, then a family gift. My grandmother, who is in heaven now, used to give the family a gift of $300 each Christmas. We would buy things like dvd players, museum passes, and other things the family can enjoy together.
  8. If they call again, your daughter needs to tell them either no, or a minimum amount, depending on whether or not she'd like to sit for them again. $2/hour is ridiculous. Even $4 is low. Practice how to say it with her so she sounds mature, and not bitter.
  9. What? I love filet mignon, and I love it well done. And I most certainly order it well done in restaurants. It is the only cut I ever order anymore. Do not like the other cuts as much as I like the filet mignon. Where do people get the idea that people who like well done meat don't like filet mignon? And why is it a waste of money to order my meat cooked the way I like it?
  10. I eat mine well done. Dh and younger ds like it medium. The great thing about steak is you can cook it to each person's preference. And filet mignon is my favorite.
  11. We loved both Cub and Boy Scouts. We bought camping equipment slowly, as needed. Shared cooking equipment when older (pack owned it when younger). Never been in a troop/pack that had the boys buy the uniform pants. Always told them to wear jeans. No holes for ceremonies. Popcorn fundraising covers a lot of the cost. I think, after buying camping equipment, we spend about $50/month for activities at the Boy Scout level. Summer camp is usually around $250-300, but you can set aside, ahead of time, if you need to.
  12. Yep... saw it in a paycheck already. Personally think it was a dumb decision but know that it was all about getting both sides to agree to the tax bill. Our social security coffers can not afford this one year payroll cut. Thankfully, it is only for one year.
  13. Oh, never mind my last note... that would put alarm bells up for me.
  14. We don't allow signatures with links in our group. Primarily because of issues in the past with the links going to advertising sites, and advertising was not allowed in posts. Honestly, I'd still give the group a try, because you never know...
  15. Younger ds needs about 10 minimum. He is noticeably less productive on 9 or less. His pediatrician said the need for between 9 and 11 is normal until around age 20.
  16. True. I pointed out that not all migrants are illegal immigrants because it is a very common misconception.
  17. I didn't say it should be an option. And I do buy fair trade coffee for dh, among other things.
  18. Why? If someone does the job to earn more, they shouldn't be able to buy the nice extras? That's socialism at it's best. And job losses for those who make/sell the luxury products.
  19. :grouphug: Take a few days to decompress, and then make a new plan.... beauty of homeschooling is you can change things if they aren't working.
  20. You could make a chess pie in another two weeks, and bring it to a certain location where you know we will both be.
