  1. Thanks so much for the input. I think i will stick with SWR as the rest of our language is covered in Paths of Exploration. (It has spelling too but is not enough for where my dd is at.)
  2. If I am well-versed in teaching Spell to Write and Read and love the concepts but just don't like the monotony that seems to develop quite quickly, am I going to be any happier with The Phonics Road? I do like that TPR has the grammar and composition intertwined in the lessons whereas some of that you have to add in yourself with SWR. PS. I have seen the Logic of English but it is way below where my dd is at.
  3. I am a Tupperware consultant. But the approach I use is that I provide a service and a product. If what I have to offer fits a need a person has, I am happy to sell to him/her. If it does not fit, then I am not the one for him/her to be buying from. I do some marketing. But I concentrate a lot on what my customers like or want and when an item that fits that comes along, I let them know. I try to be a true consultant, not just a sales person. Thankfully I do it for my personal time, not because I have to bring in cash. This distinction makes a HUGE difference as there is no pressure. I am also watching my personal purchases carefully so I am not spending more than my profit.

  6. I almost always find what I need using Swagbucks as my search engine. One thing I did discover is that it is a better deal to buy the $5 Amazon cards for 240SB than to save up for the larger Amazon cards.

  8. The author is very good about getting back to you if you ask questions. The levels can be mix and match so there really isn't a grade level assigned. Although I do believe they get more difficult as they increase in number I-V.

  11. There are samples but not specific directions on how to complete the writing assignments. I really like how EIL is set up though. :)
  12. You are welcome. If a student had had pre-algebra interspersed through their early years then Module A may be enough pre-algebra. But for my girls it was best to spend a year doing the pre-algebra groundwork.
  13. No problem after completing a pre-algebra course. I can't remember what all is in Module A but dd#2 had no trouble jumping in at Module B. You can see what the different modules teach here.
  14. I like to do a full-year pre-algebra program and then start with VideoText Module B. But it would really depend on how much pre-algebra exposure your student has had through the elementary years.

  19. Low salt is not the answer. You do need UNREFINED salt though, not processed. If it is completely white salt, you don't want it.
  20. This is what I look for only after I have taught them the phonogram. This is the method I use to originally teach a phonogram which as worked well for us. (Mainly learned from Spell to Write and Read.) Phonogram Introduction T: Says phonogram (Hear) S: Repeats (Say) T: Shows phonogram card & Says sounds (See/Hear) S: Repeats phonogram (Say) REMOVE VISUAL PHONOGRAM S: Writes phonograms while saying sounds (Do/Say) S: Reads phonogram (See)
  21. Learning the phonograms is the first step in the foundation we use in teaching read at our house. This is a two-pronged focus. First, the student learns the sounds and needs to be able to repeat all the sounds for the phonogram when shown the card (reading the phonogram). Secondly, the student needs to be able to write the phonogram when given the sounds orally (spelling the phonogram). Many times the student can read the phonogram quite a while before being able to spell the phonogram. The next step (many times worked on concurrently with step one) is that the student learns to break a word into sounds (all oral). Once the student can read and spell the first 26 phonograms, we move to breaking a word apart orally, assigning a phonogram to each sound, and writing the word. Rules are taught as we come across words that require their use.
  22. Have all your classes and grades from 9-present ready to go. The student will need all awards and outside involvement ready to list and essay about themselves ready to go.
