  1. This is my first JAWM post! On Facebook and on some other sites, I have been seeing posts and memes about how wonderful Covid-19 has been for the environment and climate change and all. These posts have irritated me to say the least. I thought that I would share what I posted the other day. When I told my daughter about it. she found me a bunch of memes making fun of all this. You can see them on Page 17 of the Covid-19 memes thread. Anyway, here's my post. I'm sharing for anyone who may be interested. -- My dear Facebook friends and family, I have been seeing
  2. https://abc7news.com/technology/zoom-fails-to-inform-users-of-possible-data-sharing-with-facebook-tech-expert-says/6067247/ “SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A federal lawsuit filed against tech-giant Zoom Monday night alleging a breach of privacy is starting to raise serious questions among its users. The video conference app has become a necessity for nearly everyone to communicate and conduct business during the COVID-19 crisis, but recent allegations stemming from the suit have heightened fears about security. The suit comes after a report released last week accusing the company of sending an
  3. From FastCompany https://www.fastcompany.com/90314763/now-facebook-is-allowing-anyone-to-look-you-up-using-your-security-phone-number “For years social media Big Brother started pestering its users to secure their account with two-factor authentication (2FA) by prompting them to enter their phone number so they could get a text with a security code login when logging into their account from a new device for the first time. ... Last year it came to light that Facebook was using the phone numbers people submitted to the company solely so they could protect their accounts with 2FA
  4. From CNBC https://www.cnbc.com/2019/02/22/facebook-receives-personal-health-data-from-apps-wsj.html “Facebook receives highly personal information from apps that track your health and help you find a new home, testing by The Wall Street Journal found. Facebook can receive this data from certain apps even if the user does not have a Facebook account, according to the Journal. ... The new report says Facebook is able to receive data from a variety of apps. Of more than 70 popular apps tested by the Journal, they found at least 11 apps that sent potentially sensitive information to
  5. From New York Times https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/technology/facebook-privacy.html “The special arrangements are detailed in hundreds of pages of Facebook documents obtained by The New York Times. The records, generated in 2017 by the company’s internal system for tracking partnerships, provide the most complete picture yet of the social network’s data-sharing practices. ... Facebook allowed Microsoft’s Bing search engine to see the names of virtually all Facebook users’ friends without consent, the records show, and gave Netflix and Spotify the ability to read Facebook use
  6. From Facebook https://newsroom.fb.com/news/2018/09/security-update/ “September 28, 2018 Security Update By Guy Rosen, VP of Product Management On the afternoon of Tuesday, September 25, our engineering team discovered a security issue affecting almost 50 million accounts. We’re taking this incredibly seriously and wanted to let everyone know what’s happened and the immediate action we’ve taken to protect people’s security. Our investigation is still in its early stages. But it’s clear that attackers exploited a vulnerability in Facebook’s code that impacted “View As”,
  7. I want to know if adding someone to a closed FB page without their knowledge is something that's commonly done or if it's out of the norm. I think it's crazy myself. A homeschool mom from homeschool PE knows I'm a Christian. We chat about stuff. She added me, without my knowledge, to a closed FB page for her son who doesn't have many friends. It's a Young Earth Support Group page. I'm an OE Christian. I have never once discussed science, biblical interpretation or the age of the earth with her or anyone else at that PE group. I had no idea she was starting the page, so of course, I ha
  8. Has anyone joined Homeschoogle.com? Supposed to be a safe, homeschool/family friendly social networking site similar to Facebook. Parents and teens are welcome. I just joined to check it out. I'm Jennifer there, like here. (I am not affiliated with them in anyway, just want to get feedback and reviews) Jennifer
  9. My husband has a decently large Facebook account. Someone has taken his picture and created a fake Facebook account. And then blocked my DH from that account so he can't report it. I can see the profile but he can't while he's logged in. Facebook's help is circular, is there some secret email address or way to chat a live person to get this resolved?
  10. What do I do now? I have no hard feelings towards her, and my ex lives with her and his father, so my son is with them every other week. She is close to my son. When I first divorced my ex she whouldn't speak to me for at least a year, even if I was IN her house dropping off my son. But she has mellowed, and is sweet to me when I see her, and asks about my other kids, loves seeing them, etc. But, she has a tendency towards hurt feelings and some drama with her family (she and her son in law are never in the same place at the same time by mutual agreement), etc. Do I do this??? How weird! Alth
  11. My DH and I were discussing his mom the other day. I told him that even though his mother is wonderful and that I love her, if we lived close to each other she'd get on my last nerve. He agreed, thankfully. We also talked about how she makes comments that make her appear to always want attention or compliments or to get credit for things. Last year she crocheted the kids some scarves. I posted pics on Facebook of them playing in the snow and instead of saying how cute the kids looked she asked why they weren't wearing their scarves. Honestly, it was because I put them on them a
  12. I am so mad right now, I could spit fireballs. My cousin's facebook status today read: I miss my grandma so much RIP 11.02.12 ♥ Because I live so far away, I had no idea what was going on. It is 2 a.m. in the morning over there and I called my parents. They didn't answer. I emailed everyone to see if this was true and out of hopefulness, that she was talking about someone else. She was. She was talking about her dad's mother. This doesn't make it any better, but it was not my grandmother and I don't have to hear about it on facebook. I am also sure that some of her dad's side of
  13. I tried to post this yesterday when I was having some computer problems. I can't find my post by searching, but forgive me if I'm double posting. My boss was talking about how I was chosen for this job. The selection process was down to me and a younger woman. As part of his decision making, my boss checked our names on Facebook. He couldn't find me (I have a very low key presence under a pseudonym) but the other woman's page contained graphic descriptions of her spending every weekend falling over drunk in the gutter. It's not that my boss is puritanical - he drinks and undoubted
  14. I am a part of 2 FB groups that recently changed their group setting to "private". Does that mean that if I post something that only group members will see it? Or will my posts show up on the walls of all my FB friends? Knowing who will see it will let me know just how much I can or cannot say, KWIM?
  15. Where do I find the groups that I am a member of??? I thought they would be on my page somewhere???? I am soooo techno-challenged! :tongue_smilie:
  16. It annoys me when people post cryptic status updates. Either tell us what's going on, or don't. That is all. Wendi
  17. I have a fb friend who posts/links waaaayyy too many political ads, etc. for my taste. I don't disagree with her POV, but it's just too much all the time. I don't want to unfriend her, but is there a way to hide her posts??? TIA
  18. I feel so relieved. I'm not saying that everyone should quit, please don't think that. But FOR ME, this was absolutely the right thing to do. It was a time-sink, a time-waster and I spent time thinking about what to post on FB instead of enjoying the moment. How sad is that?! I think there are people who use FB reasonably and then there are those who are like alcoholics and just need to quit. I needed to quit. Yay!
  19. So many people have felt a tremendous relief from quitting FB. I don't get it. What is the problem with FB? I personally love connecting with all my friends (well, most) in one place. I have liked some pages which have taught me SO much. I don't EVER feel pressure to respond to entries and when I do, it is usually short. I have seen people speak of so much drama, but not only do I rarely ever see it, I just skip over it when I do, just as I skip over things here. No biggie. I also love following some stories. I really have learned FAR more than I ever thought I possibly could. I don'
  20. I grew up in a church that was of the Word of Faith type - the "health and wealth" gospel. I'm sure that background made me a bit hypersensitive about what I'm about to share, but even so, this thinking is very annoying to me. Most Christians I know don't adhere to "health and wealth" and would be quick to point out that the rain falls on the just and the unjust alike. However, it seems to me that a lot of Christians talk out of both sides of their mouths in this respect. One friend "shared" something on FB that said something like, "God knows how it will all turn out and for those who be
  21. ....on Facebook that is. I posted previously how she hasn't seen nor talked to my kids in 9 months, then takes off to another state to stay with a man she met online and though she said she'd be back for my DS's birthday party yesterday, she "missed" her plane because her "hip hurt" and the airline supposedly wouldn't let her fly. Well, today was my DS's actual birthday. I posted on Facebook that it was his birthday and everyone "liked" it or wished him a Happy Birthday..... except my mother. And I know she was on Facebook because she was posting ridiculous stuff and cheered about how
  22. I hope this was not part of the other huge cupcake thread, which I did not read in its entirety. I have not yet shut down my facebook page, but I'm pretty sure it's in my future. Let me first say, I like cupcakes. :001_smile: But, every time I check my page there are what I can only call a series of cupcake competition posts. One particular mom posts her most creative cupcakes that took her hours to create and required all kinds of steps and many many more ingredients than I have patience for (spoken as a baker who likes to actually taste any type of cake I'm making). They are
  23. I shared a funny picture on FB of a store with a Back to School sign hanging over a bunch of knives. I commented on it, "Uh . . . guess I'm glad I'm homeschooling. hee hee" My SIL commented back, "Homeschooling takes away children's (sic) social skills. That's not good, Lynne." She's been extra *itchy to lots of people lately, so I'd had enough of her and posted back, "Well public school doesn't seem to have done your social skills any good." Then, I posted a chart of the hierarchy of social skills on her wall and asked her to point out exactly which social skills my children were mis
  24. I'm totally just curious. I don't really think anything of it when other people do it - I usually just 'like' it (whether it's a birthday wish for their spouse or one of their kids or an anniversary thing, whatever. Most people don't really post about their own birthday because FB tells everyone when it is already - but I will say I don't write 'Happy Birthday' to every one of my FB friends. :tongue_smilie: ) and scroll on. For some reason, I'm feeling blah about putting anything about my anniversary this year. Part of me doesn't want to do it just because it seems like the popular th
