  1. I think it is a good tool but I am realizing that perhaps it is a better tool to be introduced later in a child's education.
  2. One thing to consider is that by only identifying the parts of the sentence IN the sentence instead of the on the lines, you may not get a clear picture of what each word or phrase modifies. This may only be true of a visual learner and other learning styles can do that just fine within a written sentence.
  3. Are you talking about the child tax credit on 1040 line 52? Isn't the upper limit for married filing jointly $110,000 (pg 39 of 1040 intructions)? Maybe I just totally read your question wrong. If so, I apologize. I never have any income and we have always been eligible for the child tax credit. Thus my confusion.
  4. Ditto. I would want my mil to be honest with me (in love, of course).
  5. I ran across this spelling program the other day. http://www.all-about-spelling.com/
  6. We are using CLE LA5 this year and it has helped my dd cement some of the grammar instruction where she has really struggled. I thought I would like all the components of LA being together but I am finding that is not completely true. We are using Meaningful Composition alongside CLE LA. (http://www.tfths.com) PS. We just started CLE math and I really like it.
  7. Was your opinion on the writing in R&S based on all the levels (up to 9/10)? I have always heard that the writing instruction increases the higher the level.
  8. Susan, I have a 5th grade dd who struggles with writing. She is actually back at the stage where it is difficult for her to put her thoughts into verbal words. I know I can use the Writing with Ease by itself but I also know from past experience that I struggle with coming up with passages and comprehension questions to use. If I do just use the book, I will plan out the passages I want at the beginning of the year. However, the comprehension questions are the big question mark. Our history will facilitate narration nicely but it is a new area for me. So I am very nervous about how it is all going to turn out. She can do copywork and slow dictation just fine but struggles with putting her thoughts into verbal words. Would using the level 2 workbook be too young?
  9. You can see samples of the material here: http://www.rodandstaff.info/samples/english/
