  1. Can you pinpoint what the "more" is that you want? My understanding was that AG covered was a comprehensive course in grammar. Then you went on to putting it into practice. But I could have been misinformed.
  2. What did you find superficial about Analytical Grammar? ETA: Am I correct in my thinking that high school is for putting into practice the grammar they've learned in elementary and junior high?
  3. Ditto! If I believed that anyone with a higher degree knew best, I would not be homeschooling my children.
  4. We used EG one year. It was okay. But I have heard a lot of people say their child did not retain the information when using EG.
  5. I was debating between Analytical Grammar (secular), Hake Grammar and Writing (secular), and Rod and Staff (Mennonite) for next year. I have used R&S before and it is a solid program. But I have decided that AG is a better fit for us. I will be using it with a 6th and 8th grader.
  6. Has anyone used WISE Guide to Spelling by itself without SWR?
  7. I totally understand. I didn't at first but now I am posting a lot of picture of the family so my blog is the only way family and friends get to see them.
  8. http://www.christianbook.com has the table of contents and sample pages. Rainbow Resource does too but CBD has more. If it just a topic or two that he is stuck on, you could maybe just do that book.
  9. Is it possible that using Key to Algebra alongside would help? I am doing it with dd this year except she is using pre-algebra. I kind of wish I had waited until she was in algebra to use it as it definitely goes beyond pre-algebra. But it is working very well to have things approached from more than one angle.
  10. I have used Oscillococcinum with 2 dc and it has worked great.
  11. The soldiers found us separately one day and captured us.
  12. The Challenge Checklist in Character Quality Language Arts is great for helping them change the wording in their compositions. You can see it in the online samples.
  13. Journaling puts the stresses into perspective for me. If I can provide solutions for some of them, I do. If not, it is easier to deal with if I don't keep it all inside.
  14. I've always heard it taken on a regular basis in combination with honey and water, not straight. Dh will sometimes take a spoonful if he has heartburn.
  15. I would love a midwife-hospital combination. I had 3 hospital deliveries (1 bad, 2 good) and my last at a birthing center. I know I can't do that again. I hemorrhaged and thankfully they got it stopped. But I was in pretty bad shape. What I have learned for any situation but especially at the hospital is to be informed. Be informed of the process, the rules, your rights, and what you want. And you need to willing to assertive or have someone who will be assertive for you. And I would definitely suggest finding someone closer than 1-1/2 hours.
  16. It looks like 6th grade is the only level with lesson samples. Bummer. I really wanted to see 8th grade too.
  17. For samples, just click on the picture of the level you want and you will be able to find them. http://www.grammar.cc/?content=order
  18. Part of the homeschool budget needs to be looked at as being spent on experience. If it isn't working, move on.
  19. We rarely have high fevers (thankfully) so I don't have a whole lot of experience with them. I do know I go as long as possible without medication because of the healing effects of the fever. And my dc have been really good about just getting through it on their own.
  20. Fever seizures are why I will give OTC at night if their fever is high when they go to bed. I am not there to know if it spikes.
  21. I second this. My dd12 went down hard a few months ago and I gave her one dose of Osci one afternoon and she was much better in the morning. I gave her one more dose in the AM and she was rapidly on her way.
  22. I mainly use homeopathics which have been very helpful. But if they didn't work and my child was miserable, I would give them an OTC.
