  1. That would add a lot of time to her history lesson. But I think it might be a worthwhile venture. I know it would help her absorb her material better. I need to take a deeper look at her history book to see how much work that would involve. If I had her do this, she could drop the student activity pages she has been completing. So that would help even out the time. And I am wanting to add more writing practice. So this sounds like definitely something to seriously consider. Thanks.
  2. LCC, 2nd edition? I thought her writing program was called The Complete Writer: Writing With Ease. Is this the one you are asking about or it another one?
  3. I used flax meal in my chocolate chip cookies and my wheat bread. My sister and bil have been taking a Tbsp in vanilla rice milk each night. She says it definitely helps keep you regular.
  4. Don't lump both sellers in the same pot. I've had decent service with Milestone Ministries. I've never ordered R&S from the other non-publisher place.
  5. I am trying to plan implementing the 3-level outlining of my dd's history passages. What I am wondering is how long it should take to complete this each time? She reads about 3-4 pages of material each day. I know at the 5th grade level, TWTM recommends using a one-level outline with a sentence for each paragraph. At the 7th grade level, is she supposed to do a 3-level outline on the whole passage? It surely wouldn't be for each paragraph? Thanks for your help. I love the idea and see great merit in doing it not only in the reinforcement of learning the material but in the development of writing skills. I just need to know how to implement it.
  6. You could try spelt or quinoa instead of regular wheat. They are sometimes less allergenic. Of course, baking with spelt has a higher learning curve. Love the buttery taste but can't seem to get the proportions correct. It's much wetter than wheat.
  7. You can see a sample of the 7th grade BJU science on their website. My understanding is that there is a huge jump in difficulty from 6th to 7th. Not that the 7th isn't good. I like it a lot. It is just a lot of material.
  8. I'm wondering if it is not so much that AG introduces more grammar than R&S but how it is introduced. BarbinTN mentioned that AG is more than just exercises but actually makes you think about how the words work in the sentence.
  9. We are using BJU's Life Science this year. It is great material but it is very heavy for jr high (IMO). I do like the activity sheets to help reinforce the chapter information. I am trying to decide if I am going to continue with BJU for 8th or use something lighter. But whatever I do, I think I will incorporate the outline or summary idea. Sorry I can't help you on a recommendation on which would be better (textbook vs WTM suggestions). I, personally, need more of a textbook approach with something like the outlining or summary idea thrown in. Now that I think about it, I should incorporate that for history this year as my dd is struggling to retain the information. Thanks for the inspiration. I was planning on using it next year but I don't see why I can't start now.
  10. I'm glad to hear this as I am planning on using AG with my 6th and 8th graders next year.
  11. It didn't make us more gassy but I was told before I started grinding my own grain that it would make every way more regular. So the extra gas would make sense.
  12. Thanks for elaborating. It sounds like the curriculum was not used in an effective manner which can be true no matter what you use.
  13. Hurt him how? Was he just left to do them on his own with little instruction? Or was the information taught in a way that was wrong?
  14. There's one on Paperbackswap right now: http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/details/9780030526633-Elements+of+Language+First+Course
  15. No input other than mentioning that sounding out words and blending are two different skills. My dd4.5 can sound out words, can tell me what sound a word starts with, but has no clue that the letters on the paper that she is sounding out are words. It has not "clicked" yet.
  16. Warriner's is one that was recommended to me. No frills and straight forward. I found a copy on Paperbackswap but have not received it yet.
  17. FF and Mind, What beliefs are you seeing that you don't agree with? You can PM me if you are more comfortable doing that. I am looking at using their math and science next year. Thanks.
  18. The elementary science and the jr/sr high science are written by different people.
  19. I would keep mine home just to be safe.
  20. From the looks of the All About Spelling samples, I would be dropping the ETC. But then ETC, for us, gets really repetitive once a certain point is reached.
