  1. It was a California car (meaning it could never have survived so long in any other climate lol)-- an ancient 411 VW sedan that needed work every other week (dh was a car tinkerer back then). It cost us $1200 and was 100% adorable. ETA: I/we drove that thing up Highway 1 to Big Sur and more. <3
  2. With that many people, and the fact that you're not planning the entire time at WDW parks, I would think about a 3 bedroom condo at Windsor Hills or Windsor Palms. Vrbo.com is a great resource, and you're able to negotiate directly with owners. The Windsors are exactly the same, just Palms has a salt water pool. You'll have lots of room and bathrooms for all, save money, and only be 5 or so minutes from WDW entrance. There are shuttles, although I would suggest renting a minivan or other large vehicle so you can come and go as you please. The lodging savings would free up other money for park tickets, which is considerable these days. There are fabulous lodgings on site for that many folks, but it's quite a bit more than a Windsor condo. ETA Hold up. I got the OP mixed up with another poster with the large family? .If it's only the two of you, you could stay onsite easily.
  3. Bolt is great. I am also a huge fan of MegaBus- every ride I've taken has been incredibly relaxing, and unbelievably quite. I wish airlines would take a hint.
  4. In some things, yes. In others, not at all. Nope. Nope. Nope. lol And again. Nope.
  5. Mites? Is everyone being bitten?
  6. Folks do caravan in England (http://caravanandcamping-uk.com/england/london/), although it's not possible/sensible to park a large RV on a London street. I've seen RVs in NYC and in Boston. That is truly insanity. As an aside, have you seen a Mercedes Benz Motorhome? http://www.motorhomerepublic.com/united-kingdom-motorhome-rental/?label=b_6650940108_motorhome%20rental%20at%20uk They quite amazing. They are $$$, but they are compact! It must be incredibly frustrating to want to travel, but be limited by health issues. I have a relative who has had to give up all but the shortest travel, and it's been heartbreaking for her. I fly frequently, and while there can be lines for the bathrooms on the plane, some times are busier than others. Like right after a food service. Often, there are no lines at all. I'm assuming your travel companion has spoken with the Dr and has some meds that might make it easier?
  7. I live in an urban/walking area. The light changes. Always. It's a couple of minutes. Not a big deal.
  8. You can't change what you can't change. Because I get that doesn't mean I don't value your time, or that I am lazy/inefficient/whatever. I walk to work, and I do sometimes have an issue with not making the crossing light. Guilty. But I still won't press the Walk button/press on it over and over as I've seen some do. Those drivers all have someplace to go as well. Anyway, getting angry does nothing for me but raise cortisol levels, and lord knows I didn't give up Pringles to gain weight because of slow-moving lines.
  9. Yes. I don't feel alone in my town. Folks seem genuinely patient. Although not on the road. ;) Cars seem to bring out the worst in folks.
  10. Bars are not approved for air travel. We used solid for that.
  11. That happened to me recently. I heart and hear you. It's such an amazing thing.
  12. Eh. I don't get the frenzy, although I am not usually in a rush. People blocking aisles don't bug me at all; it's a couple of seconds for folks to scoot away. I walk to work. I bring my lunch to work. I bring my own coffee, my own water bottle. I go to Target and other such places when I am not in a rush. I only visit restaurants when I am not in a rush. But you can't go by me; I'm not even bothered by having to take off my shoes at the airport (although I do love! precheck!! LOVE). If I end up in a long line, I people- watch. I think this is why it doesn't matter to me that some things take more time. Also, slow lines mean I can check the boards/email if the folks in line are bor-ring!
  13. Bars. For air circulation. Crates rock. My dogs loved their crates for years. They were safe and cozy resting spots in the middle of -at times- chaos. Now that they are elderly, they prefer to sleep on their big fluffy beds few crates can hold. Our household is more peaceful as well. Far fewer little babes (visitors) tugging. :)
  14. I hs'd my youngest until age 14, and dc is now 15. (I like to think I 'afterschool'.) But! I'm still on the main board because I heart you all, and detox is a bitch.
  15. Here's my thing about neighborhood kids: Any additional people around us can be a pain. However, kids LOVE to have neighbor friends. (And they do not play in the house. ;)) My children have fond memories even of the PITAS. They learned something from every single kid. My best advice is to stock up on popsicles. I got to be the nice mom, even as I sent them home after a time. I don't suffer fools at all. ;) Playing in the neighborhood with kids is still one of my best childhood memories. The bullies were kept in check most of the time.
  16. If you want to stay in a classic place on the beach, I would recommend the OB Hotel. That's a taste of old San Diego for sure. Pier, pelicans and surfers. :) My dh loves this place, and stays there whenever he is in SD on biz (giving up Marriot points). ( I love the location, but I prefer the boring security of Marriot. lol) I would do a night or two for him. The people are great. We love Ocean Beach. If you go, Margarita's Restaurant on Newport Ave is a must! Good prices, lots of Mexican food! Also, the upstairs vegetarian cafeteria at Ocean Beach People's Food Store is fantastic! www.obhotel.com
  17. Because autocorrect is cray- cray? ;) Should have proofread better, certainly. But since it's correct in the article, it was correct, at some point, in the title. Or, if someone else created the header, they would have to have read at least part of the article to create the title. That's why I'd don't think anyone got amphibious confused with ambidextrous.
  18. Fed Up is currently on Netlix. Great info in there about sugar and carbs and Type 2. Endocrinologists Lustig and Ludwig are featured.
  19. I buy organic & pastured (I hope) eggs from a smaller (ish) local (CA) company. They are 7.99/dozen.
  20. Without avos, I'd have to rethink my whole life. lol I depend on them for quick fuel. What about full fat cottage cheese? Pre-washed lettuces, and chopped egg or cheese? I'm trying to think of ' easy ' foods. I made an omelette today with creme fraiche, sliced tomatoes & chard. But that took some washing, chopping and seasoning. Not too grab and go. And not something i make much during the work week. I hope you can find something that works for you. Is the new RX helping? Arctic Mama, that sounds horrible! What does a day of food look like for you? Are these new allergies?
  21. I do feel sad these young women have to hurt again. I hope they find peace soon. I also hope they know their story coming out will likely help others who are currently suffering in silence.
  22. I've found that TJ's wasabi nori sheets are a great sub for chips or crackers. I hate that they are hyper-packaged. Guilty. Bell pepper strips and a good ranch or goddess dressing is a good snack/lunch. Also, tuna in small pull top cans. I keep a couple at work. It's a bit smelly, so I try to prepare it at home, but if I forget, the little cans keep me from being cranky. Also hardboiled eggs. But peel them at home. ;) I don't understand not liking olives or avos. <shocking> I get the cilantro hate. I love it, but I know it tastes soapy to some. Yuck. I do not like beef jerky. OP, have you thought about a cod liver oil supplement?
  23. A father forcibly took a scissors to a young teen girl's hair. That sends chills up my spine. It's physical and emotional assault/abuse. He probably had to chase her and hold her down. She was probably screaming. I'm sickened.
