  1. I am reading this book now, and I am enjoying it!
  2. Been there, done that, and it is scary as heck! Glad everything turned out well! :D
  3. Thanks for your prayers! It is just hard to believe that this happened. I'm so sorry that your family went through it too. :grouphug:
  4. I hope it is okay to ask. My best friend and her husband have been fostering a little boy for the past 2 years with the intention of adopting him. He has a lot of medical problems, and my friends have been through so much with this little guy. Anyhow, the little boy's biological father showed up recently, and he is getting full custody beginning this evening. My friend would not talk to me when I called today. I know she is hurting so much, and I just feel helpless. The also had a baby 6 days ago. They have so much on their plate right now. Prayers for this little boy and for my friends would be much appreciated.
  5. :iagree:, but lots of :grouphug:! (I had prodromal labor for about 2 weeks with DD2, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone!)
  6. I've only skimmed through this, but I wanted to suggest that maybe a steroid injection would help the PUPPPs? Since you can't take oral prednisone, some types of injectable steroids have fewer side effects than the pills do. Personally, if I had to choose, I would try for an induction before I would elect a c-section. Not only because I believe a vaginal delivery is preferable for mom and baby, but also because an incision through sores and infected skin may not heal well. :grouphug: and good luck!
  7. My DD broke her foot about 1 1/2 years ago when she was 3. Honestly she was in so much pain at first that she could not walk on it. So, we kept her on the couch. We watched a lot of TV and read books and played games. I carried her everywhere that she had to go. I made sure that she got her Ibuprofen every 6 hours. Once she got her cast on, the orthopedist said that she could walk and run and do anything that she wanted. It took her a couple of hours to get used to it, but she was off in no time. The best part was that the cast was waterproof so she could take a bath in it! We actually had to spray water inside the cast to keep it cleaned out. She only had to wear the cast for 3 weeks, which was nice. Good luck! I hope he feels better soon!
  8. My 4.5 year old does way better when she goes to bed at the same time each night. She falls asleep faster and if generally in a better mood. We have been doing this for a few months now, and lately she has been telling me when it is time for bed! Good luck!
  9. Thanks! I keep trying recipes too, but nothing has been quite right! I can't wait to try it! Buitoni has also been our favorite so far.
  10. We are renting, and I can totally understand about wanting things updated! However, I would not paint the wall if we were told not to. I think a fabric wall is a great idea!
  11. I think we're going to try square foot gardening this year. I've ordered the book from our library! So, where's the best place for a newbie to buy seeds? :lurk5:
  12. Our vet clinic hires kennel help at 14. Maybe that or a boarding kennel?
  13. Now, because of this thread, I'm watching The Princess Bride when I should be sleeping!
  14. :grouphug: I have much less parenting experience than most on this board, but for what it is worth I think it is okay to apologize to them. We all do things that we regret doing, and it is okay to tell our children that we messed up.
  15. :bigear: We really want to have another baby this year. However, there is a real possibility that DH will be changing jobs in the near future, which would mean no maternity coverage. I used a midwife in the past, but now I am considered "high risk" so I must see an OB. I keep meaning to call her office and the hospital to ask if they have a self pay discount, but I haven't done it yet.
  16. This thread is so interesting! My 4 year old DD is a picky eater. Not a surprise, DH and I are too. (Though DH will eat a lot of things that he doesn't like.) Our 2 year old will eat anything that is food. Seriously, the only foods I have found that she doesn't like are lima beans and tomatoes. I don't feel like we have done anything different with the 2 girls, but maybe we have. We've tried the you don't eat anything until you eat your lunch, etc. She's okay with that. She doesn't whine, she just doesn't eat. We cannot let her go all day without eating. I suspect she has low blood sugar issues, and if she does not eat something before going to bed she wakes up in the middle of the night vomiting. That's not okay with me. If you ask her to take 3 bites of her food (even a food that she likes), she will do it but it makes her gag. I'm pretty sure it is not a control issue, because I remember how it felt being picky when I was young. I could not force myself to eat. Like a pp stated, I starved myself at summer camp. I remember being SO hungry, and my stomach hurting so much. I still could not make myself eat. She has tried a few new things lately. She will eat pizza now, and macaroni and cheese (but only at 1 restaurant). Every once in a while she surprises us by asking if she can try something. Usually she doesn't like it, but I'm so glad she tried! So, for now I am trying to get her to eat a balanced diet that includes the things that she does like. We talk about eating healthy, and try to come up with meal ideas for her ahead of time. I do not make a big deal about how much she eats, but she does not get bread if she doesn't eat her carrots, etc. Sometimes she skips a meal, oh well. She only gets cheese, yogurt or fruit for snacks, so she is not filling up on crackers. (This used to be a problem.) The more I stress about it, the more stressful it is for all of us. So for now, we are just taking it day by day too.
