  1. We just placed our first order. I signed us up as a homeschool school! They do send a lot of flyers which does seem wasteful, but they sure do have a lot of great deals on books! :)
  2. Last year we did start most mornings with the pledge and memory work. It was kindergarten for us and was suggested in the cirriculum we were using. This year we have not said it once! He does say it weekly at Awana, but that is about it! :)
  3. I am very happy to see this thread! Last night when I was playing around with my ds I noticed that he had the tiniest start of a new tooth coming in behind the baby tooth! The baby tooth is wiggly, and I am hoping it will soon come out with all the playing he's been doing with it. This will be his first lost tooth and he turned 7 in May! So he's is very excited to finally have a loose tooth. He's been waiting a long time :)
  4. My boy goes to speech therapy. Our insurance pays for 50 visits a year. At age 5 he went twice a week, it took a while for us to see any progress. I like to observe the sessions so I can see what needs to be practiced at home. He is now going once a week. He has made major progress and can now say in conversation all the sounds he was missing before except "r". He just turned 7. He does seem to still not be clear all the time. I am really hoping we can wrap up speech therapy soon. I wish we had started speech much earlier.
  5. We are in a similar situation. We do not like the Sonlight LA and I do not like how you must buy Sonlight bible curriculum this year. We've decided to just use the Core C books as a book list, and go with the SOTW 2, along with CHOW, and the other books we have from Core B. It was really hard for me not to order Sonlight but I think we will be more free this coming year to do more projects and other things my dc is interested in!
  6. I gave my son the CAT from Seton Testing this year in the first grade. Our state requires testing and it was easy enough to give him at home. He loved filling in the bubbles and keeps asking when we will test again. He could do the Stanford through our co-op and we may try that next year.
  7. You do not need to buy their map! We use our own maps and globe, it works just fine. :)
  8. I am thinking of trying the HOP's master reader. I'll be keeping my an eye on this thread to see what else is suggested! :)
  9. My son participated in a wedo Lego class, and it was two kids to each box set up!
  10. We are using the old school hooked on phonics with tapes. We were given it for free when my son was younger. It was never used. We had a hard time finding a tape player, lol. My son is not fond of the tapes so I will often go over the sounds with him instead of using the tape. We are on the last level now, and my son is reading well. He is always so excited to finish a box. The readers improve as the levels go on in m opinion.
  11. My son has two more sign offs needed until he's done his Sparky's book. He's in the second book, I'm forgetting what it is called now. He has had little interest in doing the review, so I am not sure if he will do that his year or not. We have missed a lot of Awana because he's been sick a lot! I was surprised he was near the end of his book already!
  12. Wish they had other levels of Singapore Math too! I will add it to my bookmark list to keep checking to see if other levels are added! :)
  13. We got ours today too. I keep going back and forth about buying or not buying this year.
  14. I noticed her site was down soon! Glad to hear it is just a hosting issue and will be up again before too long. :)
  15. I may have to get that scholastic $1 one. My son loves comic type books! :)
  16. I have only had my iphone about 4 months but I wish I had it earlier. I love it. I got an Ipad for our family to use because I was tired of them always wanting to play w/ my phone. :)
  17. http://www.dpub.us/Sonlight/Sonlight-2012.html Here you go, hope that works.
  18. I was e-mailed a link to the new catalog? Did you get it? Hadn't seen the new video though.
  19. I hear you! I thought I had everything figured out with Sonlight but I am really feeling strongly that we will not use them next year. I'm not a 100% sure yet but I am leaning that way. We do not use Sonlight bible, or LA. I am thinking of just buying some of the books myself and heavily using our library. Maybe if I can find the IG used I will go that route. But I may just try to wing it on my own.
  20. My son was very similar. He stayed that way until around 5.5 years old. It was very difficult. Now at 6 he has little trouble at all with separation anxiety.
  21. Crazy! Thanks for updating me, I was feeling so lost over there.
  22. I'm thinking of just not ordering Sonlight this year. I bought Core B last year, but with all the recent changes and drama I am just not getting that good feeling about the company anymore. Especially, after all the talk about the Core D changes. In a way I feel free though. It's fun looking at other curriculum again. But I was really hoping we had found what we'd use from here on out. As naive as that is. haha
  23. Does anyone know what keeps getting modsnipped from the discussions on the Sonlight forum? I feel so confused trying to read there. I am not a huge fan of the new IG scheduling. Especially if you want to do 4 day, which was my plan. It looks like it will be more work for me in the long run.
  24. We allow screen time once all of our subject for the day are finished. Every time I allow it in between there is drama getting back to school time. :)
