  1. I never thought about school uniforms for homeschooling. The idea of having one for field trips actually sounds pretty good to me, though. Now to design a school logo...
  2. I can't acces the order page on mylilpicasso.com and I can't access any of the pages to look at the selections besides the regular subscription. Anybody have any advice on this?
  3. Thanks for the tips! I looked on the mylilpicasso.com website and I really like what I saw on there.
  4. Mine was against it. He said I had to wait until I was 16, and when I turned 16 I heard you could get gangrene if the piercings got infected, so I didn't get them pierced then. By the time I got past that fear I didn't want them pierced anymore, so I never did get them pierced and I'm 27 now.
  5. Another Worker Bee here! I think we go up to the next level after 100 posts, so I'm burnin' up the forums to get up to it!
  6. I can relate to feeling like a thread killer, and to wondering if anybody will respond to my posts. I think sometimes on not getting much of a response on a post has to do with timing. Sometimes when I post a thread it seems like ten other threads start at the same time, and my thread just kind of gets missed.
  7. cup of vegetable soup or chili trail mix (in moderation) popcorn reduced fat cheese and triscuit crackers barilla protein plus macaroni and tomato juice peanut butter on whole grain toast
  8. We have had a Kia Sedona for 2 or 3 years now and we really like it.
  9. I plan to with dd4. When she starts 1st grade, the plan is to start with TOG then. This year we studied modern history using mostly Netflix videos. Next year, I am planning to use James Baldwin's history story books and Edward Eggleston's American history stories, focusing on the people of history. The year after that, maybe The Young Folks' Josephus or Greenleaf Old Testament, then start with TOG Redesigned Year 1.
  10. Does anyone know of an art program for preschoolers/kindergarteners that includes the supplies needed to complete the projects? Or does anyone know of a good supplier of craft kits for this age group?
  11. I also want to add that we homeschool year round, too, and as I work 3 nights a week, we do school on the four days that I'm off, whatever days they end up being. We do 45 four-day weeks instead of 36 five-day weeks and just take off a few days here and there when we need to. I do take off about 3 weeks in the summer.
  12. :iagree: My dd4 is up for just about anything if it means she gets to spend one-on-one time with me.
  13. I have been interested in this myself. Does anyone have a link to Tami's blog?
  14. Thanks for the further info. I went on the dibels website and printed off the 1st grade materials. Would it be helpful to use VDB in addition to these materials, or will they be enough on their own? Also, do you know how many words a minute should be achieved before moving on to the next reading sheet?
  15. I agree on the need for patience and persistence. It takes time to change a habit. Just give her plenty of encouragement and plenty of practice and make sure she knows you won't budge about expecting her to sound a word out instead of guessing. It takes more mental effort to sound out a word instead of guessing and I think kids are prone to reverting to guessing when the work gets difficult. Even my dd4, who has never been to ps, will guess sometimes. It seems that she does this more often when she is tired. I don't know all the details of your present situation, but it might help to consider the time of day it is when she does her reading lesson and the length of the reading lesson. Hang in there. She will get ther eventually.
  16. Thanks for the tip. I am planning to start the boys in RS B this year and I am sure this information will be helpful.
  17. I think in our area the cutoff date is sometime in the beginning of October. To me that seems young. My dd4 will be 5 in June, and lately I have been seriously considering waiting another year to consider her in Kindergarten in our homeschool. She is very bright intellectually, but emotionally I think she would benefit by starting a year later. I still plan to teach her on whatever level she can handle, but my goal is to ultimately delay high school graduation by a year and give her that extra edge in maturity.
  18. I really like the leap-frog phonics products. My dd4 learned most of her letter sounds from them.
  19. That is wonderful! Praise God for His many blessings.:)
  20. I have thought a lot about doing art and music, and I would really like to, but working full time outside of the home, I'm afraid that if I try to do too much, I will overload myself and cause my whole plan to break down. I had sort of planned on just starting that next year after I got a routine down on the basics. Maybe if there was something in this department that they could do independently I might consider it, if I really liked the program. I suppose I could let them listen to classical music while they are doing seatwork, and maybe get some art prints to hang up. I guess that would be better than nothing until I could do more. I would actually like to do some crafts with dd4, if I could find some that were grab-and-go, like maybe some kind of a kit. I really need to simplify as much as possible right now.
  21. I think Victory Drill Book might fit the bill. I don't know all the specifics of it as I haven't gotten the book yet, but to the best of my understanding it is a series of word lists, gradually increasing in difficulty, that are timed and a certain speed has to be reached on each list before you can go on to the next one. It is supposed to go all the way to 8th grade reading level. And it is only about 18 bucks. Is this kind of what you're talking about?
